Yesterday I was in a party with a Bladmaster player. And he had like 85k DPS. Killed BoC boss Shar’zul or whatever in less than 2sec. I wasn’t even able to touch the boss ) Ridiculous. He had that new Warborn set (except for the helm). That new mace is op. So talk about Judicator’s set being op.
You’ll want a Bonescythe, Spectral Battle Axe, Warborn Mace, Exalted Axe, i.e something without Pierce damage.
Medal is fine. Drop poison resist for Aether, AotG off Blood of Dreeg caps your poison resist with 100% uptime. Bleed is negligible as you have enough regen to cover it as well with/without BoD up.
Thank you very much sir/madame!
@Zappa, interested your build. Wanna to try your build for grim dawn 1.0.0.6
I was in between you two. I didn’t own the Judicator’s Signets but really wanted them and for both reasons mentioned:
-
Sealed Fate on crit proc with +8% OA and +8% DA and some minor healing (negligible) with 5 second duration and CD – ideal for facetanking bosses as Skeletor points out.
-
+107 OA wearing both.
Then slightly more minor but still interesting was good health regen and resists, but those two above were the highlights for me. Both were really interesting to me. The on crit proc being changed to on enemy death really kills the main appeal for me.
I think the on critical proc must have been the most effective part of the rings though as Skeletor mentions because they restored the OA bonus in a patch but they still kept the proc to on enemy death – so apparently they felt that Sealed Fate triggering on a critical hit was mainly the part that was OP.
+8% OA and +8% DA almost always on (assuming you can land crits frequently enough) while facetanking a boss seems pretty sweet. A lot of people end up investing 3 devotion points in Hawk mainly for OA, and that’s just a measly +15 OA and +3% OA. Judicator’s was +107 OA and +8% OA and +8% DA with Sealed Fate. I wonder why it got changed so much though – like what if Sealed Fate just gave +4% OA and +4% DA? That still sticks to the same idea instead of changing a proc which helped for bosses to a proc which helps more for trash.
Maybe the idea was with like a Crucible focus and bonus timer kind of idea – so that you’re trying to kill every individual enemy in 5 seconds… or leaving some trash here instead of clearing them all out when facing a boss so that every 5 seconds, you go from hitting the boss to killing one of the trash – then back to boss… something like that… but the change to Sealed Fate feels less like a nerf and more like a total change in function and intent – making it used in a totally different way.
So I just had a Superior Exalted Butcher of the Abyss drop, and I’m looking at that and looking at Solael’s Witchfire and thinking “I wonder if there’s any way to make Chaos work for this build.” Train up Witchfire and Consecrated Blade, slot in a Symbol of Solael, re-devotion over to Abominable Might… is this workable, or is the lack of chaos-based heavy armor just going to break everything?
Broke into Ultimate today, after hitting 70 and being able to use Augments on my armor. Pushed up to Cronley, so I think I’ll spend some time farming him on Ultimate and hope for blueprint/legendary drops to upgrade my gear(I really need the Reckoning relic BP for Oleron’s Wrath). I redid some of my skills and devotions to match what MortalKombat has posted, and I’m really happy I did, Blood of Dreeg with AotG is amazing. I’m also 2 devotion points off max, and so have that to work towards as well. But overall, really loving this build, even more so than my Vitality Conjurer(which I haven’t touched since starting this character). Thanks everyone who has posted advice and answered questions in this thread!
The main problems with chaos VS physical are:
- Enemies are usually more resistant to chaos than to physical
- You can greatly reduce enemy physical resistance with CoF and RotBM, and AM too,
- You will have to stack 100% physical converted to chaos to use chaos well, but it requires weapon with corresponding conversion mod.
- Lots of strong gear pieces provide bonus to % physical damage, and NOT to chaos. Many skills do it as well (Cadence, Blitz, etc)
any idea when the hotfix is for Judicator Signets?
Also, I took outcast and deaths vigil in normal and elite.
I got outcast to revered, to goto Black legion in Ultimate.
Is there any reason to goto Kymons in Ultimate? or can i stay with Deaths Vigil?
Mostly just in case they change resists/gear around, you want to have access to both.
I’m fairly certain this is impossible, at least with 100% uptime. Possibly with the Markovian 5 piece, you could pull it off. You can get ~50% from weapon + Consecrated Blade + 2 conversion components, and would have to rely on the Abominable Might proc (12 second duration with 18 second cooldown) for the other 50%. I really wish there were shields with Chaos and Vitality conversion (I’d also like one with Elemental for my Battlemage, but that’s neither here nor there.)
You’d certainly be better off sticking with physical.
Personally, I’ve got a Vit/Chaos/Physical version of this, simply because it was an old character (my first) that was 50 Occultist/32 Soldier, that I’ve got at 50 Occultist/40 Soldier, and it’s doing okay, but I have died a time or two (my gear is pretty terrible, I’ve got 0% Aether Resist so Cronley managed to kill me after I got him down to about 1/3 health. Non-Aether enemies go down pretty quickly, however.) I’m actually planning on wearing the Markovian set, because I’ve only got 50% conversion (25% Vitality + 25% Chaos) so the majority of my damage is still physical, and the various bonuses to soldier skills is very helpful. I’ll fill in the other pieces with Vitality/Chaos pieces and I intend to use Solael’s Decimation. My Devotions are obviously pretty different (I’ve got Wendigo, Solael’s Witchblade, and Bat, for example) and I’m not sure what to use for rings (there’s not exactly a good selection of Vit/Chaos rings, I’m leaning towards Lifegiver and Black Matriarch.) It’s not going to be as strong as the physical version (which I have one of in the mid-40s), but should still be able to farm moderately effectively, I hope.
So basically just stack up on resist augments before I switch to kymons and black legion?
Markovian set proc will “recharge” Abominable Might too, making it almost 100% uptime.
However, set provides massive increase to physical damage, and none to chaos.
Yep, 100x of each, or more.
Also, i dont recommend going hostile with Outcast. Even if you’re looking for her hood, you can just farm Crucible and get one (i did!). You can get Black LEgion reputation from quests, no need to kill Outcast for that.
Plus they have hinted at her being involved in the aetherial city. Don’t want to screw yourself out of immersion quests.
Hi Jajaja,
This build looks great. Is there any chance you could add a quick idiot proof (me) point by point order devotion guide to the front page please?
I am always completely lost in the devotion chart. I have terrible eyesight and I kid you not it just took me 25 minutes to find the lizard on the chart. It was like the most frustrating game of where’s Waldo I have ever played lol.
Both a guide of how to spend the points 1-75 for the 2h leveling build and also a point by point for the main build so I know which order to place the points please would be much appreciated.
If you don’t have time I understand, and if anyone else with knowledge of this build could add them instead again it would be much appreciated.
Thanks for your time, Stocky
May I ask what the desire is for chaos damage over physical? Is it just for originality, a kind of fad to check out damage conversion possibilities? Is it just because the occultist line might offer some more interesting options that way and a very different kind of build which is more occultist-heavy and soldier-lite? Is it to see if there’s a way to make it more effective than physical damage?
I never quite understood why some builds choose certain damage types that seem like they would clearly be lacking in sources to boost that damage over the more obvious choices to the point of seeking some convoluted conversion sources… though I do like seeing people explore alternative ideas a lot (love the creativity and thinking outside the box), but sometimes they just seem clearly less effective.
It won’t be more effective than physical, not in a melee build anyway, at least, mot without sacrificing a lot of survivability. Physical is hardly resisted by mobs bosses and heroes (and yourself). Chaos is much more resisted. And conversion will require some gear sacrifices.
For chaos, the best that can pull it off are Harbinger set builds and maybe Obsidian Juggernaut builds with that ability it has. Of course, the fact that it’s less efficient is no reason for not trying to make one. Such a build will arguably have more OA and higher overall crits. Just not sure it could do Crucible as easily.
Hello again, I finally got a new weapon for myself from the secret vendor after farming it for two days straight. Tyrant’s Bonescythe of Alacrity and already I’m feeling the difference to Reaver’s Claw.
Next I’ve been thinking of farming the Hidden Path-pants (Solael-Sect), but I’m not sure which prefix/suffix-combos I should be looking for. Formidable of Oleron’s Wrath looks like a good-combo for dps, but was thinking if there’s any other decent affixes?
You should feel lucky if you get Formidable of anything. It takes a LOT of farming to get exactly what you want with MI’s. More than Legendary, more than legendary with good rolls on it.
Formidable of Menhir’s Wall/ Vitality are good.
Anything with good resistances and of Vitality also good.
My advice, just go farm for your pants without any expectations. See if you get something that looks very good and adapt it to your build. Impose one affix at most if you want. Otherwise you might end up hating the game. Someone on the forum farmed 50 hours for a Formidable Dreeg’s of Menhir’s Wall, just an example.
What rings do you use now ?
1 x Matriarch and ? Just a MI ones or is there any epic / leg rings which could fit the second place ?
Matriarch debuff + black star debuff stacks ?
