[1.0.2.1] The Immortal Retaliator - Avenger of Cairn Tactician (Full Tank)

Build looks great, really like the idea of walking and smashing around once everything kills itself;) Can’t wait for the leveling guide, as I’m completely clueless on how to level as Soldier.

How do I lvl these guy ? It feels so fucking slowly :x due to the lack of retalation dmg and the fact that i have no real damage skill :frowning:

Enlight me

Be patient guys.

Yes, indeed, WoP seems to be even better choice for leveling than Forcewave. The only downside is that you have to put at least 10-15 points into Spirit at the very beginning, but it will wreck stuff without a doubt.

However, if you don’t want to use it, it’s still completely viable to use Forcewave as your leveling primal skill. You can go all Physique with this one unlike WoP.

You can level up at least to level 50 with these. Look out for things like Perdition Set and items giving damage boost to reflect and Retaliation. Dawnguard is very useful too. Veteran is a breeze and if you explore every crook and nanny, Elite should be fine for you too. I advise to complete AoM on Veteran, but don’t touch it on Elite. Thing is you must power up, before tanking it, Veteran is good for this.
Once you have good equipment, you can try it. The game’s scale progression is faster now, it seems, so you level up quickly.

Also, if you already have some good alts, try using EXP potions, they help immensely.

Okay thanks  I’ll give it a try. I new in GD and so I don’t get the point of binding i.e. Healing Rain to Mehnirs Will.

Will HR only be activated when my MW procs ?

I might have forgotten to change constellations binding, sorry. No, Healing Rain is binded on Field Command, definitely. You will need that heal, and you will need it quite often.

Hello! Enjoying your build so far, just hit 30.

Not a fan of leveling off-spec, so will be pushing ret/reflect the entire time. What faction serves best for gearing this guy mid-level?

I would say, Devils’s Crossing and Black Legion. They have the best Retaliation green faction gear, which you can definitely use, while you farm for better equipment.
Homestead has some too and again, their status can be easily farmed as well.

Don’t forget to use Serrated Shell in your Shield as well, it helps. And if you have time, you can also kill Ixis in Mountain Deeps for his medal - the best green medal in the game for retaliation.

At what level would I be able to respec my Word of Pain to soldier skills? Like when does it essentially fall off?

Edit: Nvm. It’s 5 in the morning here and I’ve lost my ability to read.

just hit lvl 53 and retalion starts working now much better :stuck_out_tongue: hope those purples start dropping a lot now

can you place the final assignments soon? tho im still a bit of from the tree of life.

havent finished A0M on normal it was easier to switch to elite around lvl 45 gets some of those extra devotion points and somehow it easier to kill in elite before AoM then finishing AoM on normal?

Glad you are liking it!

I’m really sick right now, had a running nose and high temperature yesterday, I will try to update things today, don’t worry.

If this works out for you, then that is completely fine too. However, if you find further content a bit hard, specifically the entire Malmouth, then yes, you can return to Normal, finish it, then farm Elite a little (it has a new cap level, 84 I think), for the ACTUAL set, only not Mythical versions, then finish AoM on Elite.

UPDATE

Avenger of Cairn Build vs Reaper of the Lost

Nasty fellow.

thanks for the repley.

hope you be well soon, my daughter was sick as well the last few days with a running nose and coughing all the time :undecided:

Had my first encounter with a nemesis mob ever. Kupakabra was pretty challenging on elite. The guy doesnt give up. Finally got him killed. Really enjoying the build. I’m 76 now. Trying to go through content in AoM.

The only mobs I have issues with are ranged. My DPS outside of RET is minimal and makes these things difficult.

I dont think that it would be worth getting WoP specced at this point in the game. I was curious if there was any other suggestion here. How can I clear hero mobs that are ranged? I’m having a hell of a time.

Last question here, is this build viable to attempt to farm with? I have 0 of the legendaries that are presented on the build and feel like attempting to farm in ultimate may prove to be quite a challenge. Are there modifications I should make when farming bosses? Would i be better suited to just use a different class for that?

Kupa will get a nerf soon. He is not even hard for this build, just extremely annoying.

You actually don’t. This is the price for achieving immortality… in all seriousness, use the combo of Shield Wall - Doomforce (if you have the relic) - attack with LMB, proccing Lightning Bolt (of you have Sledge). Reflect from Shield Wall is the only thing that can damage them at all, while two other will wear them down at least.I wish there were options for ranged retaliation, but we currently live with what we live.

Of course it’s viable. Virtually nothing in the game can kill you, except Super Bosses. So not only it’s viable, it’s the safest choice too. However, before going to Ultimate I advise to gear up better, i.e. farming non-mythical version of the build, if you can afford it. But if you can’t, green faction gear and good legendaries and epics with retaliation effect can suffice too.

Updated the first build for correct devotion bindings.

First build is still showing -5 points at skill trees - any idea why? Is it something wrong with grimtools or you went a bit overboard with skill points?

It’s Grimtools. I have exactly 244 points in-game, no cheating.

Hello, I’m making a retal build now that I finished my necro, and had a few questions. What’s the major difference between this and warder? I like the pact aura and it’s upgrades which gives even more retal and hp, but is seals and heal better?

Warder will definitely have more HP due to Mogdrogen skill. How much more depends on the player.
He also has a bit different setup because some of the pieces benefit him better than us. Storm Titan boots, for example. On the other hand, this allows us to take Golemborn, almost doubling our armor in comparison.
Same goes for helmet, Markovian’s Visor is the best here not only because it synergizes well with the build, but also because it also has a Taunt mechanism built in, greatly enhancing coop potential.
Unlike Warder, we have Inquisitor Seal, which, in my opinion, is much better than turtle not only because it absorbs damage every time on each hit, but also because it absorbs DoTs too.
While Warder has Wendigo Totem, we have Word of Renewal, an excellent heal on demand, also giving us a ton of health (counter point to Mogdrogen) AND damage mitigation from Chthonics and Eldritch at the same time. Wendigo definitely surpasses WoR in heal, though.

Very interesting. I mainly ask because I’ve got all of my core soldier skills maxed and ready to transition, just waiting on a friend to catch up before we start cooping soon. I generally play my retal/tank builds with an auramancer type gameplay, D2/D3 etc. Which would you prefer for this kind of playstyle? Thanks a bunch in advance.
