[1.0.3.2] AoM CDR Primal Spirit Conjurer (budget HC leveling)

Hi Guys,

NOTE: This is very good build for a fresh start, for beginners, etc… You can finish all the content starting literally from nothing with it. You will reach Ultimate after about 40hours of playing (when full clearing all the areas). Just follow my leveling guide and you’ll be OK.

This build turns out to be pretty good. It’s basically a no-brainer. Simple synergy between items: head, off-hand, amu… so you can have Primal Spirit maxed 22/12 all the time  And on top of that… also double familliar in the final version… so nice bonus  But after all, main dmg dealers are bigger pets, so I don’t really care for familliar, just put few points in it for now. Still need more testing though.

Actually it’s so good as non-optimised build that I think it has good potential to become god-like when min-maxed and with bis items. For now I only put on this char what I’ve got and still I can beat all the AoM content with it easily.

This setup is definitely HC viable - you can take a lot more HP and also more “save-ass” triggers that some of the alternative items provide. And well… >50% phys resistance is nice  Not all the time, but it’s there when needed the most.

Grimtools with my progress on this build on SC mode:

ver. 1.0 - “starter”

Tip:Easy and fast route for farming MI:
Just go to Barrowholm rift and than go to the Altar of Ratosh killing everything on the way. Then repeat. 3-5 runs and you will eventually get the Bound Wraith MI.

ver. 1.2 - 2xMI’s

Tip: Where to farm the dagger: You need to reach the Depraved Sanctuary. Start in the Burrwith Outskirts Rift, then go east, breaking the hidden passage in the stone wall (it’s located near the entrance to the Flooded Passage). The key to the sanctuary is farmable in the “hidden” area. You need 5-10 runs to drop it.

In this setup I was basically unkillable most of the time. I think I was able to do any content from AoM.

ver. 1.3 my current setup 2x MI’s + 1 craftable belt (faction blueprint) + 1 craftable medal (faction blueprint)
https://www.grimtools.com/calc/qNYejGeN

Info: you need around 10 drops of MI’s to get the rare rolls I’m now wearing… so it’s not that hard. Belt is easy to get/craft - medal is much harder for begginers and very easy for people with stored crafting materials…

More images v1.3:

I think I will try version 1.3 of the build on HC mode. Just to prove it’s capable of clearing the AoM on HC and to get all of the HC achievements.

Nemesis killed with ver. 1.2/1.3 of the build:

  • Grava’Thul (before “nerf”) - you just need running around for a minute or so… he dropped me nice pants:)
  • Iron Maiden - easy, just wait a bit…
  • Benn’Jahr, the Colossal - very easy, very fast
  • Moosilauke - easy, but it’s better go drink anty-freeze potion… just in case…
  • Valdaran - very easy
  • Archmage Aleksander - well, I almost died to him… he was hidden in a big crowd… uff :]
  • Mad Queen - very easy, takes around 20-30 seconds to kill
  • The Sentinel - well, be careful… he was able to kill me once… I neglected him… he,s dangerous :stuck_out_tongue: General tip: Just run around for 20 second’s and he’s finished ;p

Full SoT run takes 22-25 minutes.

I was able to unlock Gladiator lvl 100 wave of the Crucible. I think I can get to around wave ~130 Gladiator with version 1.3 of the build… I need more testing though (I find Crucible so boring, I can’t force myself to test the build on higher waves, it takes to much time in my opinion).

Experimental hybrids based on this build:

1 - http://www.grimtools.com/calc/M2ge0KYZ -2x salazar’s blade  Unfortunatelly it’s a poor build.

2 -This one is insane: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/RVvkLlmZ Look at the stats of pets on temporal buffs… 233% AS for pets  They shred mad queen into dust in <10seconds, LOL. Funny dagger: https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/660 Check this out, it’s a lot of fun to play.

Final version of the build?

This would be the best setup for the final build:

No set version -> https://www.grimtools.com/calc/D2pn8JBZ - 2xfamilliars, Primal Spirit maxed and summoned all the time

Set version -> https://www.grimtools.com/calc/d2jO8BmV - 2xfamilliars, Primal Spirit summoned 90% of the time (~3sec. gap), 2xBriarthorns, nice DA, huge HP pool, etc.

You can always try different Relic or devotion setup (see next point). Both setups would be viable for HC mode.

HC leveling guide for this build.

Starting info:
I will be trying this char as my very first char on HC mode… so… no cheating, no trading for items, no stuff in stash, no blueprints etc.

Progress:

Normal Veteran:
level 10 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/aZqGv842
level 15 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/Q2zRXdk2
level 20 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/mN4wylBZ
level 24 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/4NOgWGKN
level 30 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/mN4wMw0Z
level 35 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/RZRRdAxZ
level 40 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/vNQRbAl2
level 45 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/m23wYj92

With this setup at level 45 I’ve finished normal veteran (killed Logg/Unlocked Elite). The fight with Logg took about 5 minutes and was very safe.
You can now go level V just to get the off-hand but… Beware - never fight Ulgrim, he is too strong for now!
You can now also start act 1 Elite at level 45. I decided to finish AoM and eventually kill final boss because this build (and my drop) was going well at levels 50-56…

level 50 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/YNnapwbZ
level 55 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/xZyvAdmN

level 56 https://www.grimtools.com/calc/4NOg8poN
I’ve killed the final boss with the linked build. It was easy - if you need more dps, use Rovers’ “Wrath of the Beast Tincture”. Now I will start Elite.

Hints for Normal Veteran HC:

  • try to make all quests for Homestead to get access to faction vendor relic - Hysteria -> https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/8213
  • use faction vendors - make use of Rovers “Wrath of the Beast Tincture” if you need to boost your dps in the fight with Loghorrean
  • get the dagger and off-hand, both are easy to get with this build
  • get the chest “Astral Robes” https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/8353 - it is so OP while leveling
  • the most important stats at (on?) this level are: resistances, health points, bonuses to main skills - in this setup - Summon Briarthorn
  • Act V is good for rep for Black Legion - i think it a was good idea to clear this act and kill final boss just to boost the rep and get faction writ

Elite:

General Hints/Tips for Elite:

  • you can get some of the quest items in Normal and utilize them on Elite (Mordrogen’s shrine etc.), it’s much safer this way
  • you can farm a bit SoT/BoC on Elite, drops aren’t that bad
  • you can farm acts V/VI to get materials for crafting higher level uniqes in the Tomb of Herald of Mathis undead area in Steelcap District (Bella Fald - Celestial Smith)

level 60 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/eVL3WEM2
At this point I killed Warden Krieg.
Tip: if you need more aether res - go for Devil’s Crossing faction vendor - use powders for rings/amu.

level 65 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/a2EOgEvZ
With this setup I killed Swarm Queen Ravna.

level 70 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/lNk3nzDN
I killed logg with this setup in 4:30 minutes. It was very safe. My health bar never droped <90%. I’m starting act V now.

Stats: It took me 38 hours with this build to unlock Ultimate difficulty with my first HC Char, no blueprints, no stashed items etc.

level 75 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/dVb4Kp8N
At this point I entered Malmouth.

Ultimate:

level 80 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/a2dW5JLN
OK, I bascially finished Elite at this level. There’s only final boss left but I feel I’m not ready for him so I’ll go for Ultimate act 1 now. I’ll be back when I get more HP - 13K Will be OK for the final boss on Elite to be absolutely sure.

level 85 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/RZRn4E0Z
Yay, I became Immortal Legend  With this setup I defeated Crowley. I’m thinking now about going back to Elite to kill the final boss…

Stats: I took me 53 hours with this char to reach level 85 and unlock Immortal Legend Achievement

level 90 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/L2Jrb6g2
I was lucky, Karroz was very generous. I have now best amu for my build  I’m still playing 100% solo self found. I plan to do some trading after clearing all of the content.
I defeated Logg at level 91. In terms of survivability it was ok… but I lacked dps, so it took me about 30 minutes… no buffs, potions, oils etc.

level 94 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/xZyo6zK2
It’s the key level. Now you can wear everything in the game. Faction gear, top tier legendaries etc. It is also time to decide about devotion route. I choose my this way because I have some retaliation gear. Diffrent routes are in the first post of this thread. I also reached now girls from the Coven. You can easily reset your devotion points for free with the potion their leader provide.

level 98 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/w269llbN
I’ve unlocked every act and area. You can start farming to get better items and go for the dream setup for this build (see first post).

level 100 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/YZeaxE6Z
I took me 71 hours and 5 minutes to unlock this achievement.

Level 100+ - actual build 2018-08-12: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/q2MDgQzN
With this setup I’ve cleared all AoM content and all rouge dungeons.

Good luck!

lvl 100 - lvl 100 - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/YVWJYlr2 - well, I’m still trying this build, but it’s capable of clearing SoT and BoC easily… so it will be good for farming for next chars  And it is also fun to play!

Game version memo (Conjurer version):
Patch 1.0.4.0 buffed absolutely everything about this build. It’s now becoming much stronger.
Patch 1.0.5.0 this build is stronger now, thanks to additional crit dmg from Primal Bond
This build is now stronger than before. New rougelike is a joke for my pets  Drops are a bit overtuned for my taste… one 15 minute run in new rougelike and… 9 legendaries, really?
Patch 1.0.5.1 No changes to this build.
Patch 1.0.6.0 Still going strong  I’ve reached level 100 in this patch.
I will be taking brake from Grim Dawn till October 2018r. In the meanwhile I will be focusing on translation of the next Xpack into polish.

Patch 1.0.6.1
I Play this build now only in HC mode. I’ve unlocked HC SoT, BoC and full clear game achievements. I can say the build is capable of clearing all of the typical story-wise content of GD+AoM. Still no trading etc. Just 100% solo self found. I will put here a link to the grimtools for actual version of the build: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/q2MDgQzN (2018-08-12)
Patch 1.1.0.1 (2019-03-18) - Still going strong… my first youtube video for this build: https://youtu.be/uCXlSIVXFBo
Patch 1.2.2.3 (2019-05-10) - Still OK, some buffs to bleed, that’s all. Current setup: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/Q2zqp1kN

Game version memo (Ritualist version):
1.0.6.1 - HC leveling guide for HC Ritualist is now finished (2018-11-30)
This char is dead  Need to level up smth new

Good job with this. People would be interested in a Primal Spirit build
It’d be great if we get some + Summon limit for this pet

It would be OP as hell if we could get another PS here… But why not? People like OP builds

+1 PS and Hell hound are my faforite. But HH has a mod already

You know the mods of Hentai Heaven?

Eh?:stuck_out_tongue:

There are things you know about that I do not. And it shall remain that way:eek:

interesting… might have to give this a try on one of my chars… oh no… the GD plague has me again… too many chars and too many options.

lol.:stuck_out_tongue:

seriously I think a hentai based mastery will complete this game.

to the op build : awesome gearing, I misssd my pet conjurer a lot. Maybe its time to get back.

I’ve made this char basically for unlock all hc achivements with empty stash, solo self found etc. and I think I might succeed :stuck_out_tongue:

considering that i do not have a single lvl100 char and totally rely on piss poor self founds for even finishing the campaign on ultimate that sounds like it is usefull for me.
tried to clear the ancient grove with my highest char (73) on normal veteran and repeatedly got my rear handed to me.

hello!!! can u post more char with build step by step like this topic???

I have a break from gaming for the summer here in Europe. I’ll be gone till october  So have fun and good luck with your own biulds. You can check my profile on the forum, you will find there fine sorcerer. Take care! GP.

Tried this build last night, it’s quite fun!

One thing that’s not working is the Elemental Resistance buff from Salazar’s Harbinger. I have no idea why, maybe it’s a bug?

Thanks to the OP for the well written guide. I’m new to the game so I don’t have any gear yet and my understanding of the game systems is limited so I have a couple of questions.

  1. I got one of the blades of Salazar in Normal Veteran early on. Probably level 20 or so. Will I need to find another one in Elite and then again in Ultimate? Are there levels I need to be to find more powerful versions or can I just use the current one to lvl 90+?

  2. I have crafted the hysteria relic for the crab pet. I also just dropped the ancestor relic. I can’t craft it yet but would this be an upgrade once I can or should I wait for something better? What relics should I be on the lookout for other than the Bysmiel one which I assume is fairly endgame and not necessarily a drop I will get???

  3. I see you can buy writs for more progression with certain factions. Is there one or more I should prioritise? I assume Death’s Vigil has some pet stuff so maybe that one?

Other than those and probably some more questions once they come up the build seems ok on the little pet orientated gear I have found so far. Into Ashes of Malmouth which is genuinely fairly difficult atm. I would think I have been more or less facerolling till now.

Ad 1. Yes you should change the blade because the cdr of the pet is getting shorter the higher the level of the Item is. Check out on grimtools.com.

Ad. 2 crab pet is very good even for endgame, so no rush here

Ad. 3 Is good to have writs for all the factions aplied. Yeah, death vigils is my choise here… But the death’s vigil nemezis has some very good shoulder MI and maybe it’s worth to switch the sides for the endgame just to get the MI… Not sure here though…

Ad. 4 AoM content is still more difficult than the rest od the game. It’s still worth doing for the offhand and factions rep. But beware if you play hc mode. You can always go back to AoM content when your char will be ready.

Thanks for the reply.

I’m currently lvl 61 and just starting Elite. Looks like there is a version of the weapon for lvl 52 that I probably have the Cunning for so I guess I will try to farm that until it drops or I get bored!

The crab pet is certainly nice for the CC it tends to provide. I’ll keep it then for the foreseeable future.

Are legendaries likely to start dropping with some regularity in Elite or do I need to make it into Ultimate for that to happen? Coming from D3 & PoE both are fairly common in those but the only two I had in Veteran were quest rewards. My gear is really bad atm so just wondering if I should be looking to farm some better gear before trying to really progress too much in Elite or whether there is no real reason to do so.

Enjoying the build though. I did get an offhand that gave me a skeletal warrior for a bit who was kinda cool but I don’t think he did a lot of damage. Once I got the OH you specify I switched to that and having better uptime on the Primal Spirit seems much better.

Ad Q1 - If you don’t care about the number of deaths, just go for ultimate…
Remember about all the resitances and you will be fine… You will farm much slower than on Elite but… Just fine  If I remember corectly there is +30% better chance to drop legendaries on Ultimate.

Q2 - Glad u like the build but remember that’s just a good base to try any other pet build. There are few other variants of the pet conjurer, some of them are much stronger than my build but could be much harder to gear up. Once you get full Beastcaler’s or Nature’s call set you will be able to try all the variants easily. Respecing is dirty cheap in GD.

Oh and one more thing Primal Spirit is the real beast. Once maxed out and cdr’ed it’s just crushing everything of the main content. I haven’t been testing the build on the crucible mode because I find it really boring but I think that the build with full set should be able to beat level 150 of the cruci just fine. If not, you can always switch the build from pet phys dmg to the chaos version

Making progress slowly but relatively surely! My gear is truly terrible though.

Picking up every green and above that drops but so far nothing useful for a summoner really at all. My belt is still a lvl 35 item!

Just got to Fort Ikon in Ultimate so about to progress from there. Surviveability is ok most of the time but every so often an elite enemy (the ones with the star) that I can’t even make out properly will one or two-shot me before I can react.

Not too sure if there is anything more efficient I could be doing at this point? I feel with better gear surviveability would go up quite a bit. Mostly I had to drop pet damage from gear to get resists. Just about to get revered status with most of the factions though and have gotten it with a few now so will be able to augment once there is gear that seems worth it!

Enjoying the build / playstyle. If nothing else it is testament to how good the build is that somebody with no real experience has reached Ultimate and is even progressing in it at all!
