[1.0.4.1] Witching Hour Summoner - Theorycraft Build

Decided to theorycraft a Deceiver summoner since I haven’t really tried to utilize the Inquisitor for a pet build.

Damage types would be mostly Chaos with the player (kinda) and hellhound dealing damage but then also have the familiar with lightning damage.

Defensively the build looks relatively solid but offensively I’m not entirely sure on damage though the calculator doesn’t take some player skills into consideration when it comes to pets (Blood of Dreeg, Word of Renewal, Aura of Conviction).

Thoughts?

I might look into trying this build out as I recently completed my Tornado Trickster build which was quite successful.

Any Inquisitor pet build that doesn’t use Primal Instinct is going to have a very rough outing, considering it doesn’t have many pets to make good use of the class’ abilities. Something I saw immediately was that your pets had far too low OA to do much damage, and in fact your pets would be lucky to hit the opponent at all.

As it stands, trying to combine overcapped Raven with overcapped Hellhound isn’t going to give you much, so I took the excess skill points away from them and used the skill points in Hellfire and Word of Pain to provide you with extra Chaos damage and Chaos RR. Here was what I was thinking:

I changed the equipment to 3 piece Lost Souls set to grant your pets more OA while using the amulet to reduce the resummon time of your Hellhound to 10 seconds; you can’t afford to have your Hellhound perish while it’s on cooldown. I changed the relic to Bysmiel’s Domination to give your pets more OA while granting you a nice Chaos damage proc. You now have 200 more OA so you can whack things a little more accurately, though it’s still not likely enough to be able to crit bosses.

Those were the things that stood out to me initially. Do mind, however, that I already have a Deceiver pet build posted in the forums, including a no MI build that focuses on Chaos damage, if you are so inclined.

Yea I wasn’t sure about the OA since Blood of Dreeg, Aura of Conviction and Vulnerability aren’t taken into account - figuring out a decent number for OA is easier with a player build.

One thing that should be taken into account is that the familiar at level 20 will have 4 projectiles which is kinda like having 4 pets - except these are also projectiles that pierce enemies which I imagine can be good.

I switched in Bysmiel’s Domination for the 15% OA which should help. I’m not super concerned about Stun or Slow resistance since the build can potentially have 33k health and also has 20% over maxed run speed which I assume helps mitigate the effectiveness of slows. Changed Devotion a bit to max Dying God for that extra damage by switching from Sailor’s Guide to Eel.

Checked out your build but I kinda want try out the Familiar + Hellhound with more invested points.

With your old set-up, your pets couldn’t even reach 3,000 OA, even with the flat bonuses from Aura of Conviction and Blood of Dreeg. Pet builds usually like to have 3,400-3,500 OA at a minimum to take advantage of the large crit bonuses these builds tend to build up. Using the Bysmiel’s Domination relic helps a lot in that regard.

As for your comments, overcapped Raven is only useful in builds dedicated to Lightning damage; Raven’s attacks are not weapon attacks like most pets have, so the Raven doesn’t benefit from the flat damage bonuses from auras like Hellfire or Witching Hour, and thus cannot do Chaos damage at all. Combine that with the lack of Lightning RR from not taking Shaman and you’ll realize quickly that even with 4 piercing projectiles from keeping the extra points and the amulet, the Raven’s not going to do nearly the amount of work you think it will.

Trying to focus on multiple damage types (Lightning and Chaos in your case) that don’t synergize well (meaning the sources of RR are in different places, unlike Fire and Chaos that have the same RR source) tends to go very poorly, so I tried what I could to keep the Chaos theme you had going. That means Word of Pain and its Chaos RR is a necessity, alongside maxing Hellfire. In the end, it’s difficult to have the skillpoints to hit the main themes of your build, such as maximizing Chaos damage through auras and RR, while keeping your Hellhound overcapped, much less both pets.
