don’t think i’ll be coming back to GD, Wow is my main game atm, will probably just casually play some coop HC, high end GD feels too much like work constantly relearning meta
build making was fun for me back in the days when most builds sucked lol, nowadays alot of experienced players are making good builds, i don’t think i would be adding much more.
Yeah, Zantai`s pendulum swings every couple of months have that negative effect. I personally resent it. His constant nerf/buff swings is really the only negative thing about GD in general but i see his motive is to emulate a more MMO-type of an environment (without GD being one). Only a handful of his nerfs were really needed or spot on. Most just make you lose desire to play certain build (since said build becomes much less fun to play) and just moving on to the next (probably part of the goal as well).
Glad to see you are peeking in man. I do hope you get the desire at one point to share some build
Newer (~2 months) player here. I have a question for Zantai / Crate.
My question is: since GD is mostly (overwhelmingly?) a single player game, what is the rationale for the regular nerfs?
I can see the need for regular balancing to be done in multiplayer and competitive games, but with GD it really just feels like I’m “competing” with myself / with the clock.
I feel like regular nerfs have a negative effect on the trust of the player base, as is sort of evidenced in this thread with mad_lee and jajaja. Again, since GD is single player, what is the justification for creating this dynamic? Right now the incentive is if you find a particular combination that’s exceptionally powerful, you should probably keep it to yourself because Crate will nerf it if not. To me that sort of creates an environment of secrecy, and punishes players (like mad_lee) who outsmart the system.
Both in GD, and perhaps more importantly outside of it, I’d personally love to see a few more buffs and a lot fewer nerfs.
I’m not a game designer / developer, so I’ll plead some ignorance there, I’m sure it’s by no means easy. But I really feel like a lot of these issues could be worked out / prevented with more design and testing, which to me should fall on Crate, and not the player base.
I want to close with saying that I love GD in general, and at the end of the day I have to trust that both players and devs have an aligned interest in keeping it as healthy and fun as possible for as many people as possible. shrug
