[1.1.9.0] Beginner's Apex Death Knight

You can test it in Grim Tools  Just untick “Ignore Devotions Requirements”

somehow i managed to miss one in asassins blade , iv sorted it now and look forward to gearing this char for ultimate . thx for all help

Thanks for all these really nice beginner guides Stupid_Dragon, especially this one, the primal strike warder and the blademaster. They always come in handy whenever I inevitably delete my save and start over for no reason and they always make my progression nice and smooth.

Anyway, idk if this is the place to ask, but is aether sword and board still a thing? Would I still do that on death knight? For death knight in particular I suppose even ignoring whether or not it makes more sense to go two handed, a Celestial Halberd is much easier to get than Mindwarp or something.

The current idea is you need a pretty good reason to go S&B at all. Like strong skill that requires a shield or a shield granting strong skill modifiers. Shield’s defensive benefits alone are not considered to be a good enough reason.
My most recent data on aether S&B is the next patch that is currently in public testing and is supposedly just around the corner. It’s an aether Blitz DK with Reaping Arc as a filler, sorry been a while so I don’t have a link. IIRC it’s decent, not really strong but not garbage either.
Ofcourse it’s gonna be a pretty expensive build gear-wise since aside from obvious Mindwarp it also requires a bunch of skillpoints and conversions for Soul Harvest. Budget aether DK isn’t a thing in my book.

That blitz build actually sounds like a lot of fun, so I’ll keep a look out for it when the update drops. Thanks for the insight~

Hi Stupid_Dragon, wondering how much recent patch (1.1.9.2) afect this build.
Do I understand it correctly that soul harvest is now practicaly worthless?

change in patch was: * Damage converted to Physical is now properly reduced by Armor. This fix also applies to Retaliation damage converted to Physical.

Soul Harvest should be big enough to not get affected much. You can try ditching it though, but it’s not like there’s abundance of better stuff to invest into.

Greetings SD

The reason why i am in love with your guides is skills min-maxing section  MB it even should be mandatory part of every beginners build, cause in the beginning of GD way it is not so obvious that some skills have breakpoints; fe i needed an impulse to realise it, and your traditional min-maxing was that impulse.

On subject: again, excellent guide and first not boring 2h meelee 4 me, TY for your work.

When it says Hammer in devotion, do u mean take entirety of hammer?

Yes, it’s always the entirety of constellation unless I mention otherwise.

Perfect, ty so much

Is it worth it to do all DLC on normal?

a LOT of content waiting for me then

Sorry if i missed it but what factions do i go with? iirc there are times when u have to pick one over the other.

Once you take the necromancer class, you will be forced to join de the Death Vigils.
For FG, I’ve cycled between Dreeg and Bismiel in normal and elite to unlock Honored asap. After that it doesn’t matter anymore.

But if you delay taking Necromancer until after you have the option to make that choice you can still join Kymon’s. They’ll grumble about you later on, but won’t throw you out.

  1. Death’s Vigil vs Kymon’s Chosen - doesn’t matter
  2. Barrowholm friends or hostile - doesn’t matter, I recommend friends though
  3. Cult of preferrence - doesn’t matter

Hey, SD. After reaching your final build, main priority is maximise blade arc? 24\16 in mail skill looks a bit nervous for me… Is there any reason not to use one Dreeg Blade Seal - Items - Grim Dawn Item Database in your setup? Easy to get and have 2 points in BA, attack speed, some resistances. Does it worth to use?

UPD: came home and wathched in GT about Dreeg Blade Seal instead of cronley’s signet. With one signet Laceration is already hardcapped, so i will try to run with one Dreeg Blade Seal
