[1.2.1.3] The PASSIVIST - How to complete the game without using active skills

Oh! That’s a good idea!

Uh, wait. Both versions of Ulzuin’s Pyroclasm? Only one and it doesn’t give dual wielding ranged.

It does and the non-mythical version also has that skill (hence the 2 versions)

But I could also use a Yeti horn in my off-hand to get the same result anyway
Which is what I think I’ll go for end-game since a well-rolled one will have higher %lightning damage, but a second pistol in the meantime would be nice

Grimtools item database - only 1 at L60.

We are talking about the relic right? Because that’s what comes up in GT. Or have you got the item name wrong?

No, we’re talking about the medal
Yeah, @thuter got the name wrong at first, and I didn’t notice and just went along with it…
Not Ulzuin’s Pyroclasm, but Pyroclasm Mark

AH! Yeah, a bit different.

After the Berserker reveal I sadly have to conclude that there is not much to gain from the mastery in terms of this challenge (otherwise it is amazing). Passives have some nice damage boost for a wide variety of types, and some nice absorption and healing buffs, but no way to deal damage. Which means that after the DLC drops I will very likely run a Passivist without Berserker.

The what now ?

RektbyProtoss did a live stream on Monday with Zantai. He also did a skill reveal video here: https://youtube.com/watch?v=bJp9O3_z_FU

First Krieg. The fire is from the Molten Walkers, always good for this sort of build.

Reached level 100, equipped a few things I had found for end-game, and crafter myself a Cyclone helmet (A direct improvement to wind devil)

Killed the Logghorean and Theodin Marcel. Concentrated on making friends with the coven so I can buy Skyshard powder for much needed OA. Switched my devotions to Scale and Ultos from Elemental storm so I can level them up and really compare them in play.

Found a Mythical thread of mortality, which I didn’t expect either to find, or how well it would fit here.

Still no sign of Pyroclasm mark :frowning:

My next objectives will be:
To farm a decent Gollus ring … (which might prove to be a pain)
Farm as many totems as I can to find that damn medal.
Complete most questlines, including those that give extra stat and skill points.

Once I complete SR 50 for that last skill point and kill Korvaak, I’ll consider the challenge complete

Just beat Korvak. As an added challenge to the passivist playstyle, I decided that I would try to face him without doing anything: no kiting, no potion, no evade… just absolutely passive… standing there, taking it on the chin.
And it worked… in fact, I was never worried and my health never dipped under half.

I have previously completed the outcast questline (So that means running all the roguelike dungeons) And completed SR 50 for those extra skill points.

All that’s left to do now is Morgoneth. Then I will have done everything in campaign except celestials (which I’m certain can’t be done with this build)

Snapshot right now: Elementalist, Level 100 (GD 1.2.1.2) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator
I’ve farmed Gollus for some better rings, but Gollus ring doesn’t seem to be weighted towards anything… I got more “of hungering rifts” rare affix than basic “of mending” for an item that’s geared towards health regen, I find it odd…

Got also some great gloves which slightly lowered my damage output, but shot my survivability up significantly, so … in they go. The belt was a great find too.

…And STILL not a single Pyroclasm mark!

Sadly that will be the case, however, that would have been possible before the Sunder system introduction.

Still, an amazing feat u guys got there regardless if Celestials don’t get beaten.

About the Gollus rings tho, as a professional fan of them… they are indeed RNG crazi and to get my favorite affixes took me around 400 runs, wanted both good rings… since then been collecting them like no tomorrow, and my favorite item honestly, using it on many of my min-maxed builds. I think I wanted incorruptible or consecrated of attack or something along those lines.

I mean, you don’t have to facetank them of course, and as long as they do not regenerate faster than you can deal damage they will die eventually

In theory, yes, practically - not. Not by sane people’s standards.

Running around like a headless chicken won’t be that satisfying, at least for me.

It took 30 minutes for my classless passivist to kill Bloodlord Thalonis in Ultimate, so I can only imagine how much worse Calla would be

I’m also giving this a go. Just beat Krieg (or rather he beat himself).
Still wondering what second class I will take.

Also playing on hardcode for the first time, so I’ve to be extra careful

After some thought about this idea, I tried my version…

It’s surprisingly good and fun while having nothing to press, well, except maybe booting up 3 guardians and 4 blade spirits.

However, it ended up being completely possible to beat super bosses with it. It may not have good clear times by all means but the damage was very decent by doing almost nothing aside from running around part.

Focused on fire tho, as I am. :heart_on_fire:

Funny, I had a plan for my next passive character, and it was also a Dervish.
This is just a WIP right now, not a clear idea but…

Focusing on Bleed damage on blade spirit, with a side-order of vitality, both boosted by Anatomy of murder, and both with RR on Guardians of Empyrion.

I can attest to the effectiveness of Dervish, it brings a lot to the table.

If you feel like you need more power, the Deathstalker pet can be bound to things like Wendigo or Rattosh. It being able to be bound to offensive procs was my main consideration of Deathstalker for classless, though I decided to get another relic in the end.

I’m a bit shell-shocked by the lack of RR in my current passivist, and my favorite damage type is bleed (Which also happens to be the least resisted damage type), so I figured if I can’t really control the damage output (because I’m locked to whatever skills are passive) then I think increasing that damage could be done 2 other ways: Crit damage or RR.

I think I’ll be able to achieve even better damage output this time… albeit with a much lower survivability.
