100 Alkamos runs .

Heyup

So , wanted a pair of legendary Alkamos rings so decided to bite the bullet and string 100 runs together . After reading that Alkamos’s chest has a guaranteed legendary/Blueprint drop we’ll See what happens .

There is no tally of legendaries every run , basically it was purely for Alkamos drops .
I ran every hero I encountered , searched out Moosilauke and Ilgorr the eternal , I made 100 kills on Ilgorr. And ran the Chamber of souls 100 times .

I also opened every trove so 100 dynamite right there . I dismantle every epic item and a fair number of legendaries , so all in all over 400 dynamite used . For that alone you would need close to 140 Aether shards / Searing ember / Scavenged plating . Which in turn made 420 dynamite , I’m pretty sure I used a lot more but take that as base .

There were many occasions I came out with 1/2 legendaries but in the main I would say it averaged out at around 2-3/4 legendaries / blueprints per run .
On around 6 occasions I came out with 5 , twice 6 and once 7 . The higher ones coincided with either Moosi dropping one and his chest , or chamber of souls dropped up to 3 . Chamber of souls dropped 3 on 3 occasions , 1 on a number , but mostly epics .

If you want a fast run ofc miss out Ilgorr , searching for Moosi , although he is fairly easy to spot with not much running out of the way .

If / when I do it again Ilgorr will be dropped , from the 100 runs he dropped a legendary 5 times , could be bad RNG but that is a poor % to have to kill him twice every run .

Ancient keys x 100 , yeah so that’s 100 blood of CH’thon , 100 Ectoplasm , 100 corpse dust .Ectoplasms drop enough to keep me going , I believe I finished up with 10 more than I started , they are easy enough to craft nowadays too .

I would say , always do Chamber of souls / hero’s and troves just for the amount of components you can collect . Chamber especially because of the amount of hero’s and the chest .
I’d personally look for Moosi too just for the trove and the chance at blueprints , I found at least 5 that way and Moosi was fairly rare .

Couple of notable drops , Mythical Gutworms seal was a surprise , thought it only dropped off Gutworm , dropped off a regular hero . One other that pee’d me off , had a Mythical seigebreaker drop from Alkamos chest on the 64th run , I was well pleased because it was a much needed item . Portalled to Homestead , sold crap , opened my stash tab and black screened , had to shut down in task manager , came back , every crappy item I found was in
my inventory , but no siegebreaker  One other was Zarthuzellan dropped me another needed item and that was the Mythical peerless eye of Beronath .

Okay so the drops :

Soulrend dropped on :
1st
16th
26th
57th
61st
77th
89th runs

Epic agony
12th
66th

Epic Torment
21st
34th
73rd
93rd

And finally to what I came for , my luck right here topped off in 3 runs , very happy .

Touch of Anguish
78th

Touch of Dread
80th
94th

I thought I would maybe have more epic rings drop and was praying for more legendary rings , I thought the percentage would be slightly better than that , but I ended up with a pair .

I will keep on running him ofc , just because he has a guaranteed drop and the need for blueprints . The only thing I would do differently like I say , is not bother with Ilgorr , just not worth it imo .

Would like to attempt SharZul but not sure if my character is good enough . I’ll pop my grimtools up for the character I have been using . Thanks , hope the info is useful for anyone attempting the runs and trying for those rings .

One thing I meant to add . Get’s boring running something over and over so a lot of the time I portalled to wardens lab and ran backwards for the soul shards , around 12 per run , also visited Gloomwald and ended up with over 200 Ugdenbloom , so the 3 places a lot of runs

I’m at 53 runs, only 1 touch of Anguish from Alkamos. Lots of legendaries though, lots

I skip Igorr if possible and take the shortest route available but kill every hero/moos in the way

Well I am on my 60th run I have got not one , or two but three sets of the blue rings and three soulrends but not one touch of anguish or touch of dread :furious:

Blue rings are amazing though, unless you want that 30% conversion so bad there’s no reason to prefer purple rings.

You’re joking about that, right? You have a death knight, that’s the best character for hardcore b/c it’s so tanky yet can still do pretty good dps, too. Just craft a menhir’s bastion and get aeon’s hourglass/dying god and you’ll be gtg. My hardcore death knight farms lokarr and Clones of a Certain Person for lols, face tanks Avatar and all nemesis, and his gear is barely better than yours.

Here’s the grimtools model that I used for my death knight fyi. My greens are still works in progress but other gear and skills are the same:

edit: actually, I just uploaded my death knight:

Getting one similar to mine shouldn’t take you too much time, but getting really great rares like that first link has makes farming up the krieg’s set feel like a casual stroll in the park.

Dreadfire proc is amazing. So much better than rimefire and better stats overall.

5% oa is pretty huge though, even with the better proc and better +skills on the purple rings I’d say that the epics are better (unless you need the conversion ofc).

Er, the purple rings have 5% OA on them. Also it reduces the health and damage of an enemy and it has frostburn damage as well. Also much higher cold damage. The purple rings are a massive step up from the epics. The blue rings can only get 4% OA.

in addition to 5% oa from the set bonus. They are better in terms of OA.

Ah, I missed that secondary set of bonuses. In that case, that might be the case. I was also not looking at the level 94 version I realised so overall better possibly.

You also overlooked how important 80% freeze res is in crucible, it was a game changer for my trickster switching from purple to blue.
Overall: Blue rings have higher base flat damage, higher OA and capped freeze res. Its proc even deals higher frostburn damage. The only thing the purple ring excel is conversion and enemy damage reduction on the proc (the health reduction never hurts anyone).

Cheers , might take a look at that

It’s totally worth it. For me, the biggest thing I saw once I started using rares was that I was able to really ramp up the OA. I struggle on most other builds to maintain toughness yet still have good OA, but death knight allows that.

Great thread here thx guys. I have a death knight as well and you’ve certainly given me some ideas for improvement.
