"100% armor crushing" weapon modifier

It would be interesting to have a few weapons that have the property “100% armor crushing”, which would be similar to “100% armor piercing”. This modifier would achieve the opposite, turning piercing damage into physical, after all the conversions. I think that it would be a nice addition to the game, because piercing to physical damage conversions severely lack and a lot of new class combinations would appear due to this. Or at least the game should have more gear that allows the global conversion from piercing to physical.

This could also be extended to other types of damage as well. The descriptions should be something like:

  1. 100% sapping = converts physical to vitality.
  2. 100% corroding = converts physical to acid.
  3. 100% scorching = converts physical to fire.
  4. 100% chilling = converts physical to cold.
  5. 100% shocking = converts physical to lightning.
  6. 100% hemorrhaging = converts internal trauma to bleeding (this one would be especially useful).
  7. 100% soul twisting = converts physical to chaos.
  8. 100% soul burning = converts physical to aether.

One or two weapons from each type would open the door to countless possibilities, I think.

This will never happen. Not to mention the time it would take to balance. Then the time to add all these options to the gear/items.

Mmm… :scream:

Somewhere around 20 items total, if there are 2 of each. The infrastructure needed already exists, I think, because it’s done for physical to piercing. About balancing, I don’t understand what that is, but this change generates only conversions, it doesn’t modify skills. Besides, dozens of new items will be introduced with the expansion, so what are 20 more?

So, just regular conversions?
You’re reinventing the wheel.

And especially impossible.

I’m sorry to hear that. It would’ve been especially useful for builds that also have skills with internal trauma damage, but scale bleeding.

This wouldn’t really add anything that regular X>Y conversion mods don’t.

Armor piercing is essentially just a quirky way that the game has of doing global phys>pierce. Yes, it’s applied last, but there is nothing particularly cool or useful about that.

Maybe, but I for one have a problem because I have almost no way to convert piercing to physical at least. The rest of the conversions I proposed would’ve been a quick way to change physical into any type, so you won’t have to use up all your gear to achieve it. And a lot of times you can’t even fully convert physical to another type, globally. In any case, this wouldn’t have only advantages, because you’d be stuck with using that weapon.

Earthsplitter, Havoc, Deathdealer’s Sidearm, and Siegebreaker all provide global Piercing → Physical.

Grasp of Unchained Might gives you 100% Piercing → Physical, globally, if you’re an Inquisitor.

Earthsplitter is the best general choice for me, but you’d be stuck with using 2 of them, to make the full conversion. For the rest, the conditions are very restrictive (being Inquisitor, wearing a shield, being ranged etc.).

100% armor crushing (i guess it’s from PoE2).
LOL! I haven’t encountered a single mob whose armor was a problem to defeat. Besides, when using physical damage, there’s usually an additional Physical effect from Internal Trauma = Phys Prot (not armor).

The game has plenty of options for converting specific damage types.
I don’t see any point in making things more difficult for the developers.

Well, for piercing at least, I’m looking at the item database right now and you have:

  1. Gloves. This requires you to have the Inquisitor class and use Aura of conviction. I won’t even consider the Crimson claws, since they’d be valuable only if Cadence would be fixed and carry the conversion to any WPS triggered from it.
  2. 2x one-handed axe.
  3. 1 one-handed axe + shield.
  4. 2x one-handed ranged.
  5. 1 one-handed ranged + shield.

There are no 2-handed weapons at all (or multiple armor/jewelry pieces to gather 100% together or with the weapon/shield) and it would also be nice to have a single item that converts 100% of the damage. Or at least a set. As it is, the Earthsplitter is your only hope for a melee character, but its skill modifiers are very particular (useful only for a Soldier or Oathkeeper). And the skills it modifies require using a shield or 2-handed weapon (Shattering smash and Forcewave), so being dual-wielding would make the modifiers useless for the build. Thus, it’s obvious that Earthsplitter was designed to be specifically used with the Siegebreaker shield, in order to benefit most from it.
For the rest of the types (physical to X), it’s not necessarily a problem of lacking, but rather of difficulty (or even impossibility) to reach 100%. We’re here to discuss new things, it doesn’t mean that anything should be done ASAP. If they can’t be done for Grim dawn, maybe someone will do them for GD2. You can never know when some ideas that looked useless or impossible at some point become perfect at a later one.

What?

If you meant that the item’s base should be piercing damage and not physical, then in GD it works differently.

66-136 Physical Damage + 100% Armor Piercing = Piercing damage that penetrates armor and is countered by Piercing Protection

No, I meant that you might want to convert all the flat piercing damage (from buffs and passive bonuses), active skills or even the Nightblade’s WPS to physical.

I don’t have a NightBlade character, if you want to add 2 hand weapons to convert piercing damage to physics, it’s better to contact @Zantai.

Just correct the title of the post, otherwise I don’t understand what you’re talking about.

I think the title is fine, it’s the name of a weapon modifier that would achieve the exact opposite of what “100% armor piercing” achieves.

“Add 2 hand’s weapon with convert pierce to phys”

And if you judge logically, then it should be a spear, sword
