Pet Conjurer - Moggy the Puppy!

Foreword:

I will keep this short and simple. I was curious as to how a pet conjurer using Mogdrogen the Wolf Devotion would fare. So I went and tried it out. I was pleasantly surprised, so here I am with another lazy build.

It is hardcore viable and can farm Gladiator Crucible. And ofcourse it can kill every single thing ingame including Avatar of Mogdrogen, Ravager etc.

Nice work, good to see you picking up the banner for poor neglected mog! I’ll try it sometime, preferably after Crate buffs the devo/makes it more accessible (here’s hoping).

Well, Maya, you should be extremely skillful player to finish 151-170 with 2666 base DA and no consumables, the character itself looks rather weak comparing to yellow/blue devotion path.

How does it feel in general?

Do you really need Behemoth? is it worth trying Bysmiel Bond or Aleron Skorpion + 1 point in red node (to keep Staff of Rattosh)?
Edit: just realized Behemoth is needed to sustain Manticore :frowning:

Budget / Beginner friendly Pet Conjurer capable of doing gladiator Crucible upto Wave 150:

All items are craftable/faction/MI drops (without affixes)

Crucible 100-150, x2 using 4 Blessings + 4 Lvl-1 Stormcaller Beacons: https://i.imgur.com/p2wdXKN.jpg
No Consumables used except for HP/Mana Potions. Start with 4 lvl-1 stormcaller beacons, buy blessings after completing wave 110.
Once you complete wave 150, get your reward and restart from checkpoint wave 130 and complete it once more.

When you are minding your own business and suddenly, a Wild Kubacabra appears… Unfortunately, I was all out of pokeballs :frowning:

O) Devotion Setup
It is fairly flexible and you can take whatever route you like. But I’d suggest getting Shepherd’s Crook first for the easy powerup it provides. You can also take Raven and then head to Rhowan’s Crown right after, if you prefer. However, do note that the final build doesn’t use the Raven devotion.

O) Attribute Point Allocation
Put just enough in Cunning and Spirit to equip your items. The rest in Physique. If you want to make changes to it later, you can with a Tonic of Reshaping. It is a guaranteed reward from quests (2 on each difficulty) and is also available as a random drop from Nemesis monsters and sometimes in the Crucible. I’d however suggest not wasting the ones you get from the quests and saving atleast 1 or 2 of them for the future.

O) Skill Point Allocation
When leveling up, focus on the Occultist side first. Summon Familiar and Lightning Strike should be your priority.
Put a single point on Hellhound for the distraction it provides. You also want a point in Curse of Frailty early on to bind Shepherd’s Crook to.
After that, how you want to take it is entirely upto you.

Now, if you are still not sure what to do, this might be a relatively safe bet: >> CLICK ME <<

You might wonder why it looks so different from the Budget Build given above. The reason is simply because when leveling up, you will have to make do with whatever items you find. So you might have to do things differently until you get the necessary items. You can always visit the spirit guide to make changes to your skill points later, so feel free to experiment if you want to. Also, Primal Spirit can be mana intensive early on due to it being a temporary pet that you have to keep resummoning. But if you can sustain it, get points from Briarthorn and max Primal Spirit instead.

O) Item Choices While Leveling Up
This one is a bit tricky in that you will have to make do with the best you get. But in general, anything that improves pet stats is obviously good.
Another important thing is Resistances. Try to keep them near or above 80. Other than that, just equip the best you get.
Do note that things like Offensive Ability, LifeSteal, Block etc are useless for us (Pet OA and LifeSteal are different and useful).

Try to get your faction reputation up so that you can get the faction items from their respective vendors. Craftable items require you to find their blueprints first, but you might come across them from random vendors. Then it is just a matter of getting the materials necessary and crafting them at your favourite Blacksmith. The rest are MI or Monster Infrequents, basically loot drops from specific enemies. They could drop with certain affixes and if you get lucky, you could get a really good one. But the build isn’t reliant on specific affixes or any at all, so don’t worry too much about that.

Also keep an eye out for Components and Augments to put in your items. They can make quite alot of difference.

O) Faction Choices
Ally yourself with The Outcast (Anasteria) and with Barrowholm
You have very little reason to side against Anasteria and you don’t have much of a choice with Barrowholm if you want to make the best of pet builds.

Kymon’s Chosen vs Death’s Vigil is your choice.

O) Other Stuff
I can’t think of anything else right now, but if I do, I will update this.

Thanks for the compliment, but I assure you that the only thing that I did a bit differently here was to use the Pet Attack command a bit rather than let them attack whatever they want. I am still terrible at piloting :stuck_out_tongue:

Now for how it feels, in one word - different. I still prefer the yellow/blue dev.path as it is safer. Here, we lose DA as you noted and most of all no Isthak and I only realized after playing this character how much I relied on Nature’s Guardians proc.

But it is all good. For something I expected to fail terribly, it passed with flying colours.

And yes, Behemoth was taken primarily for the green/red points it provides. The heal was more of a bonus.

And I am hoping for the same thing. Having a better/easier devotion path would do wonders for ol’ Moggy.

EDIT: Made some minor changes to the build (Aether Soul instead of Black Tallow on Medal) to better handle those double Aleksander waves. Watch out for getting swapped by Valdaraan into double meteors.

EDIT2: So… update. Went for 2 Crows and got a bit of DA as bonus.

Moggy is growing on me. HALP!!

Seriously though, if this thing manages to kill Ravager and Mogdrogen as well, then it will pretty much become my favourite pet build.

Glad to see this worked out for you.

I messed around with the item devotion setup a little and came up with this. Picks up Blizzard, Arcane Barrier, +4 Familiar, at the cost of -1 Primal Spirit and some of the overcap on resistances. At that point I’d probably test switching the weapon with something that had +1 occultist or Familiar to get the extra projectile

Hm… will have to see later on how it will fare in my hands :stuck_out_tongue:

Any weapon recommendations? I was thinking of this one if we are keeping it green free for max familiar.

That’s probably the best choice. Other decent options include Wendigo Mace from Barrowhold, an “any-affix” Salazaar’s Blade, or Mythical Blightstone Invoker (it has some All damage, Crit Damage, and OA hidden in with the Acid/Poison)

I suspect you’ll notice an overall improvement from using Blizzard which is amazing, but everything else is probably going to be in the noise.

Ok, tried it out.

Clear times were about 30 seconds faster on average, but died a couple of times. Pets never died though, not even once.

All in all, there is a notable improvement but that comes at the cost of having to pay more attention to what is going on :stuck_out_tongue:

Cool, good to know.

I completely forgot until just now but I had messed around a little worth Mogdrogen a long time ago. I used it in a couple of the builds here (the winter king ones).

I suspect that for one-handed weapon, non-chaos, non-vitality builds which get some off-hand CDR, Mogdrogen would probably perform competitively to Dying God + Aeons Hourglass. I’m having a hard time remembering why I thought the blue/red path was so much better - maybe it’s just Witching Hour builds where both Hungering Void and Time Dilation are extra effective.

Update: Disaster struck. The build failed :frowning:

It can’t complete Glad Crucible safely without using blessings.

May you RIP Moggy. You will be missed.

Great build added to my thread.

Ty, ty

Updated the build. Feels much better to play now. Ultos helps alot

Wohoo!

Ravager done (<6 mins). Avatar of Mogdrogen is always easier for us thanks to the pet lightning res. ensuring that they never die, so the build clears all the content ingame

Removed the alternate versions since the main build has a vastly superior performance.

Btw, when playing crucible without using Ulzuin’s Pact Blessing, just keep in mind not to spam CoF and be wary of enemies with mana leech (or use mana pots :p).

Hand of Ultos was something I tried a long time ago on a pet build and was very pleased with – and honestly, anything that is 100% proc on crit seems amazing on pet builds. Still thinking about if it’s possible to ever make Blind Fury worth it on a pet build on that note (seriously, why is the RR on that proc so bad?!), doubt it in crucible but I could totally see it working in campaign just for clearing through trash mobs faster…

Interesting setup though. For some reason when I tried Ultos I had the mentality of going all lightning (so using things like glyph of kelphat’zoth and spark of ultos and such, even took arcane bomb) and never thought to try mixing the damage a bit. Granted that’s also when I started using gear snapshots and it wasn’t known that Ultos RR applies before things like elemental storm… Either way I like the way this looks a lot better.

Might have to check this out for myself and give it a runthrough in HC before the expansion hits. My first really geared out self-theorycrafted pet build actually used mogdrogen on cabalist for campaign farming in HC from ages ago and is still alive to this day, though I highly doubt it’s crucible 170 viable. And my first theorycraft for conjurer used ultos. So this build highly interests me, to say the least…

Glad that you like it. Hope you have fun with it

If you have any queries or concerns feel free to ask.

Crucible 151-170, 3x with Banner + 4 Blessings: https://i.imgur.com/lVobx1l.jpg

Well, colour me impressed. It works beautifully :D. Ofcourse no potions or consumables used as always (Arcane Barrier makes up for the loss of Behemoth).
You might get even better results if you put atleast 1 point in Devouring Swarm for the Bleed RR, but I am too lazy for 1 more button press.

Avatar of Moggy done with Moggy, using Moggy’s pact and Moggy devotion.

Moggyception

Also, yay for 12 min Crucible without Blessings or Banner
