500th member - bonus screenshot!

I see that there is a second picture from that region :)!

How many regions is going to be in Grim Dawn?

I find it quite hard to differentiate ones character and the monsters from the surrounding environment:(…will there be more “contrast” for want of a better word, between player/monsters and the background/environment?

I think this is 80% the result of looking at a screenshot instead of playing the game, 10% the result of the screenshots being pre-alpha, and 10% the unavoidable result of having a darker more detailed art style.

Although Diablo II is 2d and fairly old now, I think it most closely approximates the lighting, scene complexity, and general art style we’re creating for Grim Dawn. In some screenshots where the character doesn’t have an aura on or particularly bright armor they can also sometimes blend in a bit with the environment. I think this is especially true in LoD where a lot of the environment is dark and brown. However, in both D2 and GD, I’ve never found it difficult to understand what was going on when I was actually playing the games. The only times when I’ve found this to be an issue are when there are a lot of large spell effects going on and a crowd of enemies packed around you but that is difficult to avoid.

We’ve added a light-rig to the character to better define them and it is either only in the last 1-2 screenshots or may not be in any as it went in rather recently. However, it is a subtle effect and I think turning it up any further would start to look silly and really is unnecessary when you’re actually playing the game.

In a game filled with mythical beasts, hordes of undead, and demons at every corner, I feel that color is our only friend, because realistically, it isn’t realistic.

But, that doesn’t mean it can’t be made to feel more real then normal.

Off Topic - I saw a pic and instantly got a half-chub. Then I realized it was from another game. Le sigh…

On Topic - I agree that when the game is in motion I’m sure we won’t have any problems knowing what’s going on. I never had that problem in TQ, and I’m sure the creative minds in the dev’s heads will find a suitable solution in due time

Do you remember this post from April 28th?

It must be tough to juggle two forums - look what is hiding on tq.net.

This was posted on April 28th, too … even some hours earlier … so by end of next week …

Haha yeah… ah the video… I started doing that and then got sidetracked with other things… like freakin laser beams! (don’t worry, not for guns, just spell fx)

Animations are mostly all back to working although we still have to tweak a bunch stuff. Have the character’s butt poking through some of the longer armor and other annoying stuff like that.

New Classes Confirmed for having Back.

More and more each day I’m amazed at the presence of developers on this forum. It’s awesome to check back every few days and see that the devs have put in their two cents around the forum.

That and of course the tid-bits of teaser screens are making me drool :stuck_out_tongue: It seems like every day I get more and more excited about this game. This guy can’t wait for the first video to pop up on the site!

And here I thought only government workers were concerned about covering their ass.

What, this is a nudist community? lol

This week is THE VIDEO WEEK.

haha

Show yourself… and fight like a man, you coward!

don’t hide your ******* *** in your rusty metal pants!

Keep up the great work!

Haha, nice.

What we have to remember is that a video is not just a video. A video is a piece of marketing that can make or break a product. I’m sure Crate wants to make sure their video is a solid representation of their product and not one that is torn apart and belittled across the web. Their financial future will rest primarily in the hands of viral marketing, and that street can go both ways. As much as I want to see a video, I want to make sure that the Crate Entertainment team is comfortable with releasing it and not just giving in to pressure.

Of course you are fully right.I don’t want to pressure them. lol.
We wait as long as we have to. I’m just kiddin’.

Show a marketing video process is an extremely important step.

Wow, awesome. I feel honored!
Bit of a late reply, but hey… Better late than never right?
Looking forward to how this game’ll turn out.
