9.0A No well, Oh well

Somehow I managed to play a game where a well wouldn’t build.

First, I thought I didn’t have any stone selected. Then I saw the well build under priority says only wood was needed.

Then I thought how could this possibly have happened as a former developer myself.

What happens if the person on priority for the build dies? This was the only thing I could come up with because I have no clue otherwise.

This is video 2 in a series of 2. Of course once the building fire happens, it’s game over.

First video: 4:25 shows wood delivered to well, only 5 stone should be remaining. But video 2 shows no stone is required to complete Video 2(video 1) 1:04. Video 2 is linked here, Video 1 is the prior video.

I’m assuming you are new to the game.

yeah you need to read the guide on basic game play. you have no stone
and you made no effort to get any. that well will never complete.

you need to select stone and have the peeps go get it.

yeah no bug here. 15 minutes of play with zero stone and never tried to get any.

Groovy you didn’t read what I wrote. The game tells you in video 2 no stone is needed.
A small group of stone is selected within the first minute of the game.

Initial selection, you can see the stone selected in red.

Here is where I figure out something is wrong with the well so I click on it. Clearly says only needs 3 wood but it never happens. However the overlay icon shows stone is needed so something is definitely wrong here. The villagers starting out never get the stone from the initial selection but the well build seems confused as to what is going on and what is needed. This is also not the first time I’ve had this happen. I think I have 100 game hours in. This is the first time I documented what is going on though. I also don’t appreciate the rudeness of the comments toward me as I’m spending my time trying to help the game.

absolutely zero rudeness. I have been reading the comments in this forum for sometimes now.

my bad if I made you felt rude.

let me point out something. your villagers kept dying on the wolf. the remaining villagers are kids and some are already assigned on different task, therefore there aren’t many available laborer to collect stone from selected area. and I will like to point out this, there is an option to select and priority which material to pick up first. from your screenshot I could see you select multiple object/material rather than specific object/material you need. therefore, your laborers are busy picking up something not very important to you, because the IA does not recognize which material is important to you.

This well has 0 out of 5 necessary stone, and 3 wood required has been deposited.

Difficult to discern for sure from your video, but it seems you have a ton of resources marked for harvest, and very few laborers actually available to collect them. As no resources are marked for priority, the villagers are not prioritizing the stone as there are a ton trees also awaiting harvest, so chances are they get to the trees first.

Kind reminder that if a developer is responding to a thread and your post has nothing meaningful to contribute after that, please stay out of the bug reporting forum. Thanks!

Zantai okay, so I misunderstood the graphic for the well that in fact stone is missing.
I can tell you this is not the first time this has happened and I try to play super hard putting myself in bad positions on purpose.

If a well is prioritized what good is it to also have to prioritize stone though? This idea doesn’t seem like a good one for the game. If I prioritize something I expect it to be done and AI to act accordingly.

Also, I had a question, what happens to the task if a person who has the task dies. Is it getting reset?

The well is prioritized, yes, so the builders would build that building first on their list, but if they lack the resources, they cannot proceed.

The resources are harvested by laborers, which is where I think the issue lies for you.

If a villager dies mid-task, the task would get reassigned to the next available villager in that role.

Okay. Completely clear to me. I think you should devs should reconsider this.
Someone else is going to do the same thing I did and not understand why the well isn’t building. There’s not many games where a build team AI is separate from a resource AI.

Leaving the game as-is would just have to tell the players these teams are separate as one solution because it’s not completely clear that’s the case. I had thought there was some element of ‘team work’ if something was lacking.

Thanks for your time!
