I just started Grim Dawn, but there are already a few control issues that are bugging me. All of these are genre standards, so I am quite surprised they are missing here!
Firstly, when I press Alt to highlight things, I would have expected objects you can interact with to be highlighted. I understand there are hidden things that you may want to keep hidden, but it would increase ease of use if I could press a button to tell which chests/barrels/corpses/doors can be interacted with and which are decoration.
Secondly, I am constantly hitting Tab. Normally, Tab toggles a map overlay that does not hide the game screen, acting as a supplement to the minimap. It is getting quite frustrating having to keep stopping to open the main map to see if I missed anything important-looking. This has been around since the original Diablo, so I am extremely shocked by its absence.
Finally, an auto-loot button. Normally in these games you can press a button to pick up all items near you. Sacred 2 also included a quality filter in its autoloot, similar to what you already use. This would be another ease of use option rather than individually clicking each of five items a chest dropped (for example).
I believe the amount of doors, chests, barrels and corpses you can’t interact with is meager. Therefore I don’t really see the necessity of such a feature and I don’t think that is a genre standard at any means. I can’t remenber such a feature in D2, D3, PoE, TL2 (or maybe I never used it because I didn’t need it)
That’s surely a point you can argue for or against. Since GD’s map is static you don’t need a map overlay after a couple of playthroughs. But whatever if it is wanted I believe Crate or Modders can implement such thing in no time.
I hope Crate enables autoloot for components. But a “loot all items button in your vicinity” would be bonkers. Around L40 I usually don’t pick up any yellow items anymore and let me show only greens which are too rare to feel stressed by picking them up in the old way.
And I doubt that this is a genre standard. I can’t remember such a feature… (see above)
Alt highlights all loot that has dropped. Moving your mouse arrow over an area will quickly highlight any corpses/human remains/rocks, etc, that you can then see if they have loot. This isn’t a handholding game, the devs have made it clear they want players to go out and find stuff.
As for the transparent overlay map, I’ve not played that many RPGs but none have had this except for D2 - and frankly I loathe the thing. I’d much rather have the mini-map and the main map than a transparent one getting in the way of what’s on screen.
Auto loot - again haven’t come across this in the few games I’ve played. Sacred did have an option to auto loot gold iirc, but that was it. Didn’t like Sacred 2 so can’t comment on that.
