A+ for an early access game

Game feels complete, robust and for the most part only needs a little polish. And maybe a more detailed wiki when players are more settled into creating one. Perhaps even a higher difficulty than vanquisher.

I played my first and only town up to 100 years on vanquisher and here is my experience thus far.

Observations:

  • Work camp buiding needs some work. There is no scenario that I could find where having them is a benefit and I have a few of them outside of my town all turned off. Perhaps consider giving them a 2-3x bonus for harvesting resources? It was more beneficial keeping those villagers as laborers and then sending them out like locusts to chop down forests when needed. They would get killed by raiders less and I had less wagons out of town trying to cart out/in resources. Right now the only benefit that I experienced was having the harvest mature trees only option which could be added to the harvest resource selection action.

  • The luxury resource of glassware being used in preservist building seemed like a waste in my town as sand was not easy to come by in quantitiy. Possibly its a lot more abundant on other maps but the preservist building was the only building I had turned off permamently. Potentially consider keeping glassware as a luxury item and create a new resource called “Bottles” used by the preservist which costs 1 sand to make instead of the 4 for glassware? Maybe even recycle bottles however I’m not sure people on the frontier threw away reusable materials that often or not.

  • I had a building integrity “bomb” go off in my town after ~40 years. What is building integrity and why did they all happen at the same time? Building integrity indicator just drops without warning or timer? Is there an upcoming building inspector profession? There was no way to prioritize upkeep and my villagers were prioritizing the upkeep of wooden fences over everything else. Also there was no counter on the upkeep so had no idea when they would be finished hammering away.

  • Cemetaries are a permanent, immovable and unavoidable fixture which will eventually dominate any map that is played for a long time. Create another option such as cremation or be able to clear a cemetary after x amount of years of it being full?

  • Hunters run from Boar automatically when you want them to hunt them. Would be nice if there was an option to automatically engage/hunt each type of animal. They don’t seem to ever retreat from a bear and also consistently decide attacking 20+ raiders all alone is standard operating procedure.

  • Raiders attack stone gate even with wooden wall right next to it. Stone gates have more HP than wood palisade walls yet raiders will attack gate right next to weaker wall. Possibly rebalance HPs or change raiders behavior? (HPs: 1100? wood gate - 1500 wood wall - 1800 stone gate - 2200 stone wall)

  • In the middle of a battle with raiders two of my garrisoned soldiers left to go get wheat beer during combat. Garrisoned soldiers require entertainment that badly?

  • Townbell only garrisons some villagers in the town center but doesn’t make all retreat to houses. I guess this is working correctly but… I thought it would mean they all seek shelter too.

  • The logistics wagon not only ignores town bell but also will never “jump off wagon” and retreat without manual control.

  • Auto backfill professions after death option please. 90+% of my villagers die from old age and when I hear a yelp I have to check if it was anyone employed in a profession.

  • Foragers, Hunters, Fisherman and Garrisoned soldiers will not restock their shelters? So if all of them live in the same house it will never get upgraded?

  • I would like a “smarter process” for transfer of resources to where they are needed. Set a limit for minimun or maximum resource for a specific storage. Having everything stockpiled and then never distributed around town is rough…

  • There is currently no way to turn off temporary shelter. Would like ability to turn off temporary shelters from use and restock. Right now have to deconstruct if you don’t want them used. (even if you want them turned on later)

  • I had massive amounts of water stockpiled in stockyard and no way to remove so I turned water storage off whereever possible.

  • Upgrade requirement of “3 types of food” should be achievable through nearby market. Had to wait years for certain villagers to put 3 different food types in their houses when the market had plenty of different food.

  • May want to reconsider cheesemaker production rate as I never seem to have enough milk even with 30 cows and only 2 cheesemaker workers. Felt like my town was cheesemaker capital of the world.

  • Is there a negative effect of milking cows? Does it cost more food when they are milked… I have no idea.

  • A building/road upgrade notification would be helpful but I think Zantai said this might come in the future… or possibly he was talking about the trader notification.

  • Probably don’t need auto save notification so front and center.

  • Being able to load the game in a paused state would be helpful as I’m sure I’m not the only one who loads the game, gets a snack, goes to the bathroom only to worry about the game starting when I’m away.

  • Perhaps be able to zoom out further to see more of that beautiful map.

Bugs:

  • Villagers pathing between a mountain and a wall can get stuck. Not sure if anything can be done about this outside of players avoiding building such a scenario. I even had a villager get stuck on a mountain after cutting down a tree with nothing else around so I’d imagine its something to do with terrain being transformed after addition/removal of assets.

  • Hunters can get stuck after reducing traps used to 0. During stockpiling the traps at lodge they got caught flickering between idle and transferring produced items.

  • Herds can get stuck if grazing within enclosed walls. I found that if I deleted one wall unit from the wall so they were no longer fully enclosed they would move freely through gates.

  • Brewery sometimes has an icon that states “this building is not currently providing entertainment”

  • Keybinds couldn’t use numbers on numpad for restore saved map location even though it bound them

  • Resource icon will not sometimes show quantity of resource available. i.e. ore,deer

  • If you alt tab it can not recognize input from keyboard until you hit alt again. Weird but perhaps this is just me.
