A lil criticism of the community management

Hello Guys,

I know I haven’t been here in the forum that long, but I’ve already read a few topics and quickly realized that there isnt any answer from the official side.

Occasionally you see a offical person writing something but never really in the way you want it as a player / customer.

You want that we play and test your game. You also want us to report bugs. You also want us to express ideas, don’t you?

From my many years of experience in the C&C, COH and other communities, I know how happy people are when a programmer, designer etc. leaves a comment.
A simple “That sounds good, we’ll think about it.” would do a lot.

I don’t want to say what you should do, but at least I want to point it out.

I know as an enthusiastic developer you are may so focused on your project that you sometimes can lose the sight of the players / customers.

They are a valuable resource and by that I don’t just mean your wallet.

Please do not get me wrong.
I love Farthest Frontier and I think most of them do.
And me just want to helping to help you guys.
Or something like that.

Clearly you haven’t been around enough.

The devs, mainly Zamtai, often respond to posts. They can’t respond to every post, there simply isn’t enough time in the day.

The mods, like Medea, often respond to people’s questions or feedback providing relevant links to posts a dev has made regarding the issue.

To me personally, the sort of “sounds good, we’ll think about it” responses are rather flippant.

I’ve seen every bit of feedback on this forum. Do I say “we’ll think about it” to all of it? It’s technically true!

What if some of it doesn’t sound good? Some does not! Do those poor souls go without the arbitrary seal of acknowledgement? Not to mention some feedback sounds good, but we may not get around to addressing it for months, or possibly never. Does it then feel like a broken promise?

I prefer to post less frequently, and then have a lot to say about it (either in a positive or negative manner, but with an explanation), rather than create an illusion. In fact, most of our responses are only when we are absolutely certain something is happening/not happening so as not to create false expectations. And yes, I do sometimes post brief jokes and sass (some so brief I must add /10char to circumvent the character minimum), but it is how I do! Despite rumors, I am human.

I’m sure this approach does not work for everyone, but that is the style we approach it with. Seems to have worked out alright in our corner of the internet for a couple decades now.

Hey, thank you for the reply.

As I said, the whole thing is not meant in a bad way and I know that there are many different approaches.

But to one question:
Yes, you can also say if you think an idea is stupid and if you have the time and the joy to get involved in a discussion.

If you think you’ve been doing well with it for years and there’s no room for improvement, then so be it.

Hello, my first post. I’ve only been playing for a few week but I’ve noticed in reading most post their is usually some kind of response to most questions or comments. But unfortunately alot of the comments really seem negative or some what, hate to say it smartass, lol.
