A question about electrocute damage.

Hi guys. Grim Dawn is the first ARPG I’ve put any significant time into since Diablo I-II, so I’m pretty noob with this, so please bear with me.

So now that I’ve remembered basic math, and the fact that 150% of zero is still, well, zero. I’ve been paying more attention to damage modifiers and the like. My lightning Warder build is by far the most efficient I’ve had out of my 10 attempts. I’ve got ridiculous lightning mod(250+%), and ridiculous electrocute mod(150+%). But herein lies the rub: What exactly is electrocute damage? As i’m looking over my stats, I see that I am doing a whopping 0 electrocute damage. As stated above, the extra 150% is doing nothing.
I had been thinking that electrocute was a secondary and/or DoT inherent to lightning attacks. Apparently it is not, and it is a specific damage type. Yet I have seen next to nothing that deals specific electrocute damage.

What exactly am I missing here?

Fire is a type of damage. It is usually direct damage.
Burning is another type of damage. This comes in the form of damage over time.

Lightning is like fire damage. It’s the direct damage that you probably see more often, but there are also abilities with electrocute damage, which is damage over time, like burning.

The Storm Totem and Wind Devil both apply electrocute damage over time. Flames of Ignaffar, and other Inquisitor spells also deal it.

Electrocute is it’s own damage type yes, it deals damage over time (in contrast to how Lightning deals damage directly) and is a counterpart to Lightning in that both it and Electrocute share the same resistance - both for your character, enemies and resist reduction, Electrocute is effected by all of these just as much as Lightning is.

When you look over your character tab over through damages and % damages, the number above your % damage shows your flat weapon damage after the % damage bonuses are applied to it. You have 0 because you have no source of flat Electrocute damage that your weapon applies on a normal weapon attack.

Ok, so do the modifiers only apply to weapon attacks then? Or do they still apply to things like wind devil? If they don’t, it seems like a dreadful waste of stats, since I have seen no weapons that mention dealing electrocute damage specifically, only ones that boost the percentage.

The % modifiers apply to all sources including those on skills. Flat Electrocute damage as well as other DoT damage on weapons shows just above the rest of the other weapon’s stats, Sparkbolt Arbalest is an example, it can also be found on other pieces of gear like armour too and adds to your weapon in the same way.

Sorry for the delayed response. Thank you guys. I think part of what I was running into was the curse of RNG, and part of it was not paying close enough attention to the gear I was selling off. I caught myself confusing electrocute for lightning a time or two, and vise versa. I’ve since found a few items with electrocute. Also my “Storm Born” Warder has been by far my most successful build to this point. Now if I could only find some decent gear with Aether resistance, that doesn’t cripple my DPS, I’d be happy.
