About multiple beam ray builds

Functionally this is just making all +Beam items +2 Beams, as has been suggested. :stuck_out_tongue:

While until now I haven’t actually offered my opinion on the situation so much as trying to tease out how others are seeing it, here it is: I’m conflicted.

Call me old-fashioned, but in my eyes items are like puzzle pieces for a complete build. If I’m a person who hates the way two-beams function and I find an item that would put me at two beams, I see that as a component of a finished product. I think it’s a bit boring when items give you the full picture all at once. Where’s the creativity? Where’s the problem solving?

I’ve played…too much Voin in the last couple days:

Voin has a mechanic where if you’re set “Ablaze” you can’t recover health. There’s also an item that makes you Ablaze with some added benefits while you are Ablaze. There’s another item that sets your health to 1, so the notion of not recovering your health becomes less of an issue. However, it turns out Ablaze does not prevent the acquisition of “temporary” Health. So I can rack up a bunch of low-health bonuses and bonuses while Ablazed and still have a functional build.

In isolation, all of these pieces sound pretty dogshit. But together, they make something creative and original.

There’s a lot more moving pieces to that puzzle than just +1 Beam, +2 Beam. And ultimately we’re basically at the end of GD’s life cycle; I don’t think now is the time for getting experimental with items or needing to invent new items to solve our problems.

Which is all to say, fuck it, I have no great qualms with making +1 Beam items suddenly +2 Beam items for sheer QoL. But it doesn’t exactly jive with my vision for getting creative with build design.
