The guards are more than happy to equip themselves with my precious melee weapons, so it should be easy to use them in melee combat.

This would be a great addition. Miss that.
But isnt there a way to drag a place for “combat” on the map? Ive seen it on some video online but o never got to perform such command.

I think you are referring to the Flag Combat Area button for the Barracks. This button only works for Soldiers recruited to each specific Barracks.
