Advice on Poison and Reflect

Hey guys! I’m a new GD player (~70hrs played), and I’m playing around with a poison caster witch hunter. I just got to Broken Hills on Elite and here is where my nemesis lies: those nasty reflect skellies. For the most part, playing with this build has been a breeze. But on Normal these reflect dudes were giving me problems (I never finished Steps of Torment even though I breezed through BoC on Normal) and they seem to be even worse on Elite. One reflect of DEE is enough to get me killed through a potion, Pneumatic Burst and Blood of Dreeg.
I have 80% poison resist atm. Any suggestions on what to do?

For Poison and Bleed builds, Reduction in Poison/Bleed Duration is as important as resists.

I also suggest you to spec into Dryad constellation, you will need at least 3 nodes, and the Celestial Power also provide additional Reduction in Poison Duration.

Sweet belt :smiley: Is it a random drop or can I farm it somewhere? Havent exactly had luck with purples hahahah

Legendary starts to drop after you reach Lv50, and they can be dropped from anything with different rate.

I personally farm Twin Fall hive + surrounding and Royal Hive in Rotting Croplands, but I heard Cronley’s Hideout run is good to. A lot heros to farm.

Raising max poison resist (like the belt that was linked gives) and getting more hp/s regen.

I don’t have any problem in Ultimate on my melee/caster hybrid DW Witch Hunter, due to Blood of Dreeg +% Poison/Acid resist and + max resist % from gear I have 93% total resist which essentially negates the reflect damage. Also having 1,414 hp/s with procs makes the reflected poison damage laughable.

All of this advice is good

If you are going full caster witch hunter with an off hand try to trade for a Wretched Tome of Nar`Adin. Stops poison dots in their tracks and is just far and away the best offhand for this build.

You can use that item as your “defensive item” and then use all the other pieces full damage/health. It’s just an advise.

PD: I got the item already at crucible. The problem with Nar’Adin is that it needs 715 spirit while Fiend’s Resolve only requires 505.

Tinker’s Ingenuity is good. Increased max resistance to bleeding and poison, %dodge, health regen. Even more regen when you’re below 40% health.

I hate the choice of immortal sage or really any defensive belt for this setup :smiley: You should be able to more or less max all resists except aether which is very hard to get for this build, but is also not really needed I still farm aether areas with -5 aether. Just don’t stand in aether patches on the ground that some spells produced :smiley: I use girdle of stolen dreams for a massive OA boost (105 OA + 4% OA + 4% spirit on mine) and +1 occultist. Also gives some energy leech which works in a tinyyyy way with the weapon damage on eruption, it’s nice cause it provides some level of leech but is not much at all so you don’t shit on your mana bar against reflect

Fiend’s Resolve is a good option, but not nearly as good Wretched Tome. Empowered Malformed Effigy is a really nice epic option too

edit: Wretched Tome does indeed have a very high spirit requirement. I believe I have 25 points in spirit + % spirit boost from my belt and spider devotion. I don’t feel it kills the survivability of the build though and it’s a really nice item. I don’t really use my old tank setup with Crane+tip the scales, but crane reduces spirit requirement for weapons significantly

These are my defenses:

I had problems until I got the sash of the immortal. After than, I could use the rover’s agument (+10% cold resistance and +7% piercing resistance). I think it’s good to loose a little damage to get better defenses, but that’s only my opinion.

Can’t say I like all of your item choices. Matriarch rings don’t offer much at all imo, Judicator rings however provide huge OA/DA boost and give us massive HP regen. My devotion setup is maybe a bit different than most, but I have ~800 HP regen without overmaxing blood of dreeg with pneumatic/blood up, 1300 or 1400 with giant’s blood. Mark of apostate is okay, but I think we have enough damage on this build tbh though the fumble/impair is nice against fabius etc there is actually a potion sold by devil’s crossing that does more or less the same thing it’s like halfish the poison damage but 75% impair/fumble. Your boots it seems like you used them just because they are legendary? :stuck_out_tongue: I would rather use crafted green boots for health/resists. I use mark of divinity+golemn born greaves, gives you a ton of health, a bit more phys resist, and nice defensive procs

Your OA is really really low. I have 2450-2600 depending on pants choice without any buffs, 2850-3k range with blood + almost always up ring buff. You definitely want to raise that up asap

Oh, the problem with the boots are my spirit. I need one more level to get the needed spirit to get Dreeg’s Vestments and then put back my venomspine greaves (i used to have vestment of the great guardian but I think dreeg’s set bonus is slightly better).
