Advice on zantarin

What is the best way to handle this guy ? In the crucible I got unlucky and met x2 zantarin so one of them would always be at range and I got hit with the shotgun attack and died instantly.

Here is a pic of my defensive stats just incase, I also have 1200 regen and over a 60% chance to block with 51% phys res:

I’m still annoyed he killed me, it was my first death, and I was only on challenger too :undecided:

He telegraphs the shotgun and casts on cooldown (no chain spam), so it’s a matter of timing and paying attention to the animations.

This is the exact same tactic as for casters/ranged characters to avoid getting one-shotted by the Lucius/Anasteria pseudo-Devastations.

Ty :slight_smile: That’s why I was so shocked when he killed me lol. I can facetank everything in the game, but he one shot me on challenger. I don’t want that to happen again. I was just about to finish too.

Each projectile from his shotgun deals 15% life reduction plus vitality damage.

Sometimes he raises his arms but usually he just does this sort of waving back and forth animation. One “cast” is actually a back-to-back double cast.

Personally, I think it’s safer to just count the seconds between each of his attacks and rush in/out based on that.

Zantarin has a vitality resist debuff, so I think having two of them around would mean twice as much debuff-age. I’m not sure.

There are always dangerous combinations in the Crucible. Stories of uber-tanky people getting killed by bosses with a shotgun effect after some random mob decides to hit them with some sort of immobilize are not unheard of.

Thank you I will keep an eye out for it. I also have overcapped all res by about 20-30% though just to be safe but maybe he lowered it by a huge amount.

I have done the crucible lots of times and never had an issue with any other combo. Fabuis can’t even damage me, I can stand still and my hp bar doesn’t even move, but x2 zantarin is something I don’t want to meet again for sure :slight_smile:

The more I try to beat the Crucible on Challenger the more I think that the Nemesis bosses shouldn’t be in it, because the amount of builds that feisibly can take all of them on seems incredibly small.

Lately only nemesis that are really dangerous in cruci are Valdarn and Zantarin :slight_smile:

Interesting devotion route for wichblade, didn’t tried light of empirion for a while, is it worth now when they buffed it?

I love tankiness and I needed that for capping resists but not so much now with gear change, but it still helps overcap them though and that’s great in the crucible. The proc is ok too :slight_smile:

It’s a shame the proc doesn’t stack with warcry though, or at least I don’t think it does.

It doesn’t. I always found that route (maiden, light, ToL) to be way to defensive for shield builds, so only tried it on retaliation setups.
Even bigger shame imho is that you cant have light of empirion and ulzuins torch in same time no mater what.

Light and tol is a very defensive route but since markovian nerf my survivability wasn’t the same using warborn and keeping the offensive oleron path. Mad queen was dangerous. Maybe I like defense too much lol, but this way I am unkillable for 99% of the game, only zantarin can damage me…so far.

And yeah it sucks that you can’t get light and torch in the same build, it would make for a really cool char.

Seems that some nemesis got buffs in crucible some patch in the last months, i could finish with my cadence BM with warborn set and 8k of life some months ago, but now not even with my new BM with 10k of life and much more powerfull i cant finish without dying…

Its really strange, Zantarin, Fabius and Ben Jar are one shooting us sometimes no matter how much life and DA you have, died in one hit with 16k of life with a conjurer, my friend died the same way with a tank warden with more DA and life than my conjurer…

He raises his scepter arm above and behind his back for a second and then swings it forward.
It’s pretty obvious when you pay attention to it.
The reason you die instantly against him is because there’s a weird interaction between shotgun skills like that and mobility skills, sometimes they cast it right as you charge and you eat every projectile.

What you can do is get close after he casts that and stay close, he doesn’t cast it in close range.
After that, you just need to watch out for the Revenant guys he summons since they can lower your resist too.

2 of them are pretty hard since there will be so many summons. I usually focus on taking one down, and if the other one uses the shotgun from range, you can just walk out of the spot where the projectiles will land because they have a high and slow arc.

High vitality damage resistance (prefferably over 80% and over cap, to avoid resistance reduction effect) is very helpful VS his barrage. It shouldnt be oneshot for a character with high HP.
My main problem with Zantarin is that he’s immune to life leech, so you may find yourself not at full HP all the time…

If you meet 2 of them…
Just take smart use of potions, choose good positioning, and charge into both at the right moment (after they already used barrage). Should i say, his barrage barely takes 1/2 of my HP even at close range.

I have 84% vit res, 12k hp and about 50% vit res over cap, with 12% damage absoption and reducing enemy damage by 20% and I still got one shot, the damage he deals must be huge in that shotgun attack, but I did use blitz and then died right away, that might have caused me to take more hits or something.

And hopefully I won’t meet 2 again lol, I would rather 10 fabius or something.

Like it was already said, it’s buggy interaction with Blitz to blame. Just charge to him on your feet, and use Blitz when already in close range. Then, you can fight even 3 of the at the same time (i did few times, successfully).

I already posted in this thread that each projectile deals 15% life reduction. It’s like Mad Queen retaliation shotgun but worse.
