All These Pretty, Pretty, Builds...

…and where do you farm the Set Pieces, precisely?

I would honestly love to know.

I have an end-game Retaliation Warder, due to the fact that his gear check is all but nil, however most end-game builds seem to rely upon Sets.

Well, Sets, and Relic Blue Prints, at any rate.

But the Sets… I have farmed for hundreds of hours, and I’ve yet to get more than 2 pieces of any Legendary Set, barring the Helm Blue Prints.

Is there any way to get these pieces, other than random dumb (dumbest) luck, or trading with other people, and relying upon their alleged honestly, that the pieces are not duped?

This makes me regret updating my game version… :undecided:

Trade. I got all of my Ultos set items through trading, and this is my first character after losing all my saves. About duping, well nothing much you can do about that, but how it does affect you?

Certain items can be crafted, so get the mats and craft them from other people if you want to avoid duped items, not that it really matters.

Also not sure why you say you regret updating game version when drop rates in Ultimate are higher than they have ever been

One of the best methods to farm set pieces is the farming wasps. Their hive is located down from Twin Falls portal. You just go down and right from portal, kill all wasp champs on the wake, enter the hive and kill the queen. Repeat until you get bored.
As side effect, you get tons of Royal Jelly, which can be used for good buffing potions later.
Also, you can craft a random legendary item for 8 brains or blood or hearts. When you collect many of those (40+), you may take a path to him, and try your luck.

Here is the link to the thread with more info on it:

Moose also has 2 spawn points near the hive. You can check those too.

I found the full ulzuins set in under 700 hours and had almost completed lots of other sets by then, most builds work without the full set anyway. It’s just about farming fast, and you can always trade for them.

I recommend creating a runner with high dps, great AoE, and high run speed for quick dungeon runs - Focus on the heroes and bosses.

I have my Sapper/Grenadier who has 135% run speed and devastating grenado and canister bomb skills (and BWC for Debuffs)

My most effective way of obtaining legendary/relics

  1. Farm Nemesis/Dungeons
  2. Obtain legendary recipes from Step 1
  3. Blow up duplicate empowered epics (from farming) with dynamite for materials/components
  4. Craft relics/legendary items.

Of course, occasionally legendary items drop directly from dungeon runs.

So far, I have found/crafted these sets:

  1. Harbinger
  2. Ulzuin
  3. Ultos
  4. Clairvoyant

What. Grenadier builds are actually playable lategame, moreover are good for farming as well?

And what’s a sapper?

Also keep in mind some of us have been playing since well early in alpha so we’ve been around the block many, many times already.

Its all luck, since you already have a ret warder you can farm bee hives and cronley+fab

I don’t mean to hijack the thread, here is my farming build:

It looks tedious but the damage is steady and keeps me on the move.

On TOPIC:

Alternatively, you can always farm Exalted Chests on multiple characters to see if you get lucky and get some legendaries.

I’ve been farming wasps since pre-release, in whichever build it was that they were introduced, lol.

When people starting posting about the nests, I cringed, inside, waiting for the nerf hammer to fall.

Thankfully, it hasn’t softened it up too much.

you can go hours without a single legendary farming wasps in TF. once you finally get one, it will most likely be a double.

i farmed hundreds of hours somewhat efficiently, never got a SINGLE markovian, ultos, ulzuin, deathmark to drop, and very few of the other ones too. i got many, many doubles of shit-tier legendaries that my characters are not gonna use.

makes me think that a lot of people probably reload their save file after a blacksmith run. I might give up and do that myself, the drop rate of legendary items is STILL retarded, especially for an (mostly) offline game.

Could someone explain a bit more about the crafting a random legendary with hearts and what not mentioned in quote?

I don’t like to cheat in a game like grim dawn. It seems to ruin the fun, thus I’m not using any mods, and haven’t touched my save game folder. I have traded on the legit items trading post for some of my gear, but that’s all.

The best builds use certain legendary sets almost exclusively. It seems these sets drop very poorly compared to other legendaries. I’m going on 350 hours of total game play and probably 300 of that is farming.

It is getting very boring trying to find the gear to make the best builds.

On the whole, the random minuscule chance to get the good gear is disappointing. I almost want to call it a flaw in the game. I really think this game would have greatly benefited from a legit auction house system.

TLDR: The game was fun, but hundreds of hours of farming is making it not so much anymore.

It seems to me that there are some bias towards certain legendaries. It is not bad that some items should be more “precious” but I would prefer not weighted drop rate but more different tables for different bosses/heroes but no weight. Because this weighted drops slowing down farming for certain things way too much.

Etram Fald in Tyrants hold (elite and ultimate only) will trade 8 of a rare mat plus 75k iron and 1 emerald for a random legendary. What rare you need for what legendary item group can be found here: http://grimdawn.wikia.com/wiki/Blacksmith

And don’t forget you can exchange your rare mats for other rare mats in the necropolis if needed…

One thing you can’t get from Etram are helms as they are typically only found as Blue Prints that you then need to craft. The few monster specific legendries (outcast’s secret and mad queens claw) are also not in his pool.

Farming wasps for legendries can be pretty inefficient. You’d be much better off doing Cronley runs (with killing Fab). Another option is 1st floor BoC runs where you collect the treasure trove and kill the boss in front of the gate. Easies way to rack up rare mats plus decent legendary drops comparable to TF along the way. You can then trade them in for a random legendary, but you get to pick the pool. So if you’re looking for an amulet you can pick accessories (amulets and rings, [and belts?]) and have a much greater chance (although still rather small) to get the piece you’re looking for as opposed to when you get a legendary from a monster drop it is randomly selected from a much larger pool of all legendries…

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking there’s only one right way to play this game (or any game). If parts of the game are fun and others aren’t, then it’s perfectly fine to play just the parts that are fun. If you want to just play through Veteran with dozens of different builds, more power to you.

My wife had a sub to City of Heroes for years and never once actually logged a character into the game. She said playing with the character creator was more than worth the monthly fee. I told her to have fun with that and never let anyone tell her different.

Nice, My friend does that also. I always tell him he’s crazy but He enjoy’s it so more power to him.

I believe, wasps are more efficient than Cronley (unless you want some MI from his minions). Or, unless you’ve stacked lots of %damage to humans, and can deal with Fabius very well. On that point, you probably ALREADY have all gear you need.

BoC requires key for each run. And key requires not just Blood, but also Ectoplasm (you have to farm it as well). And of course, a good %damage to chtonians is highly recommended there. Is it as effitient considering key costs? Questionable. BTW, treasure trove location isnt static, so you may spend additional time searching for them. Once again, if you can use their MI, then it’s great place to farm.

But wasps… they can be farmed with any character, even if his gear is pretty bad - so, they are a great helpthe best way to gear up for newbies. That’s the first thing you should always consider.

I agree, sets (especially 4-5 piece sets) are most desirable legendaries, and they also seem to have the lowest droprate.
Players also just “tend” to use legendaries, because those are just EASY to find(craft, abuse, dupe, etc), unlike MI with great double rolls - those take an eternity to get!
Actually, i think odds for double rare affix should be substantially buffed. They’re almost non-existant now! And on top of that, you want them on MI to complete well with legendary sets…
