Allagast Mage Hunter Feedback

I played with various settings for a while, so I’d like to give feedback on the results and impressions. 30-31 is about 5 minutes, or 6 minutes at worst. 36 is about 3 minutes to 4 and a half minutes. Ravage is about 1 minute 20 seconds.

First of all, I felt that this set has problems on both the offensive and defensive sides, and needs improvement. Therefore, I will describe it in several sections.

Play feel
  • There are too many things to manage. It’s basically unplayable without macros.
  • The DPS against single targets is still terrible, and squeezing out DPS requires far more micromanagement and preparation than other builds, as you have to move the mouse frequently. You constantly need to select different enemies while carefully observing and moving around to avoid their attacks. And even if you control it diligently and do your best, you won’t be able to deal optimal damage depending on the enemy placement.
  • Survivability is RNG-dependent, just like TSS, and it’s not good. Unlike other builds, it lacks LS or massive regeneration, and it’s difficult to gain enough HP. To deal damage, you need to gather Nemesis in a narrow area, which further worsens survivability. It’s not very noticeable in 30-31, but you’ll feel it when playing 36. You can cover it with constellations and equipment, but you’ll have to sacrifice the already not-so-good DPS. Of course, you need to move around, and you’ll easily evaporate with a huge one-shot if you don’t rely on gear that heals you when you’re near death.
Gear
  • There are few good options for gear or affixes covering Aether/Lightning. Scion of Celestial Portents is not used by anyone. There is only 1 on GrimTools. It is not attractive.
  • The only useful Aether/Lightning ring is Allagast’s Stormgem. You’ll basically be equipping excellent Aether Gear. MI ring does not exist.
  • Boots of Primordial Rage always win for boots. Even without the skill bonus, they have everything you need. Or craft them, nothing else is an option. The stats and skills of the others are poor.
  • For pants, crafting is the best option since they need to cover HP. Alternatively, there are Wraithborne Legwraps, but the knockback is annoying. Leggings of Arcane Currents are decent, but lack HP. As for Fateweaver’s Leggings, why don’t they have %Aether damage when other Fateweaver pieces do? Arcane Harmony Leggings are good if you don’t need to cover disruption resistance with Codex of Lies, but they also don’t have HP. The Eastern set is good, but it doesn’t cover %Aether damage.
  • The same goes for gloves, there are no good mods attached. It’s difficult to reach the limit even if you add CS to gloves.
  • The belt, amulet, and medal choices are good overall. If I had to nitpick, I’d say that the Mark of Nacrathan isn’t really a viable option, and I’d like the conversion on the Cord of Violent Decay to be 100%, but it’s worth keeping in mind for changes in the DLC.
Suggestion
  • Please expand the SBoE’s radius a little more. Or, even better, make it contagious like Pox.
  • Give the LS Mod to SBoE either on the set items or as a full bonus, or give it a small, frequently recovering skill like on Rageflame.
  • Please alleviate the RNG in Shattered Star.
  • How about adding Aether to Leviathan?
  • Should we give Phoenix Fire regeneration again? I felt Behemoth was better than Alladrah’s Phoenix + Dryad.
P.S.

Please change the skills of this suffix to Aether and Lightning.

Also, the Lightning Tether appears to have a slight delay before it shows up—could you make it trigger instantly?

Additions of impressions and suggestions from fellow players who have also experienced it are welcome.

there’s been suggestions that storm box should jump targets once the original target dies. i’d also take it going on lmb without the char going melee/auto-attacking when it’s on cooldown tbh.

a second weaker wave of shards would be my suggestion since more death from above is always the way to go.

maybe a heal on deadly aim?

my allagast pales in comparison to yours. :joy: but i like the set and other than the above maybe we could add something to reckless power since star pact is the more caster focused exclusive?

The person who made the suggestion may have felt the same way I did. Frequently clicking on different targets while also managing movement and skills at the same time was difficult. I wonder if there’s anyone who can do it perfectly.

That might be a good idea as well. We need some kind of consistent damage.

It might work, but I’m not sure. Personally, I felt that small heals that trigger at very short intervals were effective.

At first, I actually tried to speed up TSS using Star Pact and the Hourglass, but it felt like an inferior version of the Trozan set, so I stopped. What surprised me was that AoC ended up feeling the best.

yea i also like rageflame (but i had to build differently and didn’t use the off-hand - don’t judge).

oh wow, didn’t even pay attention to that in the later builds. offensive ability and phys res i guess.

Nice! That sounds interesting. I completely forgot about Haunt.

That’s true. Maybe I felt that way because two Tier 3 constellations include CtD, and I’ve mostly been playing 36.

I’ve given storm box quite a bit of thought in the past, especially with this set.

As it stands, I don’t want to play it again because of the button mashing with its incredibly short cooldown, more so with the MI hat. Me problem obviously.

I thought about the set going in the opposite direction and having a longer cooldown, longer duration, and stays attached regardless of range and shoots the tethers to adjacent targets up to the max. Don’t know if the engine can do this. But:

This seems like an easier/better solution if I can’t spam the skill at 0 CD by holding down the button without using some 3rd party stuff.

I’ve never played the Arcanist side of the set so can’t comment. The game has changed a lot since I last played the set and I likely should try again with a different approach to SB to see how I feel about it now as opposed to several years ago or however long it’s been.

I think that’s a good idea. Anyway, we should remake it to reduce the number of steps. In its current state, trying to get close to perfection is more hectic than playing an FPS game.

I also have a build with 0 second CD on Storm box and you still need to smash the button for every cast which is hard on the finger.
