One TDM potion being OP and a choice for most players is not a real problem, you can balance the numbers to make other potions more appealing. The problem is the very concept of permanent buffs on potions.
I don’t understand what it brings to the game other than having to remember to press 2 more buttons on your build, regardless of what the buff is. I think you can customize potions for 1 time effects or short buff bursts, without tapping into permabuffs that shift the purpose of the item. Big DR for short duration is pretty cool, for example.
I am just not convinced by this argument yet. Well, the latter bit, maybe.
Amplicorum/Sanginis are not very high up on my list. Revurrum, Geliodis, Ventorus, and Menhirus have all seen more focus from me. Alterom too, were I a pet player.
i will not argue/debate around balancing, because i simply dont’ have enough potions recipes yet to try, (i saw the TDM ones but alas no luck), and, honestly?, i kinda don’t care about FoA endgame/endgame anymore - yet (atleast)
What i do think feels… out of place, not for lack of QoL/“bod+wor duration” never bothered me
But for some reason it feels less GD and more “poe” popping potions every 7-12 secs now on rotation, not for “use”. It did give some utility use for the mana potion many builds wasn’t using, but still seems kinda… “off” just getting a free buff on top for the minor inconvenience of spamming it. - there is 0 downside to the cauldron, no tradeoffs.
For my recipes at most the only interaction i’ve found was to try and time the shield recipe to when your HP is actually full, naturally this was super easily circumvented to not waste my HP pot by placing that on the mana pot
But then after a lil while i realized it didnt’ even matter, so back on HP pot it went and if it gets a lil wasted so be it, if not cool beans higher freebie shield. Meanwhile i got 45-65% DR debuff on my Manda pot depending on combo, that i can spam every 7 seconds, only 3 secs downtime on 45% version.
It doesn’t really feel engaging or exciting, it just feels like a more OP version of the old tinctures, that we got “rid” of, because it wasn’t supposed to be a potion spam sim
*from limited recipe gain i don’t know if there are exciting combo variety/potential engaging build mechanic layering out there, so far it just feels like a buttload of free buff stats, at the requirement of swapping 1 old Oil out for another button.
**since i haven’t actually engaged with poe i genuinely don’t know if the comparison is there, it’s just the impression i get from watching gameplay with their rotation drinks
aye, but i suppose my takeaway is, is that the problem people have, or simply just about stat amount/balancing on the potions. (or both)
For me atleast i feel it might be more the former than actually the latter, but as i said, atm i also don’t really care about end balancing
Very flawed IMO. The existence of Mageblood, and craftable modifiers to remove the tedious pushing of buttons as “endgame” itemization showcases that. But overall it’s not much different. You just push them less often in GD.
This is where the ascendancy system should be working hard for players. Burning mats/playtime to make something (magic item) with a really strong bonus that rivals rr rings is a missed opportunity.
Topic: having a solve (questionable implementation) for non inherent shield users is nice plus extra armor but I doubt I would use the others. Even the movement speed buff; I haven’t gotten use to and I move way more then I want to a lot of the times.
The first recipe I say was Philom (100% iron bits). Or I think it was, because for a while I was under the impression that the feature would only offer sideline bonuses and not direct combat bonuses beyond what the flasks already offered.
I confess being a bit disappointed by the revelation. It didn’t stop me from adding Draculus to my health potion, which at 8% life leech is one of the highest in the game.
But overall I liked the feature. I’m not convinced this leads to any significant changes in build crafting. I’d want to wait and see something like that showing up on Grimtools before being sure of it.
