Hello, I started playing grim dawn again after exp. now.
Is there so far a 2H melee build that is not too gear dependant(don´t have too much of it) and still can beat AoM on ultimate?
I tried to read all related discussions arround, but i couldn´t find a final solution.
Could a lightning/savagery based Vindicator work? Aether-battlemage?
Think cold infiltrator will be too squishy?
Vitality-Ritualist with savagery?
I so far leveled a necro and a inquisitor to ~ lv 40 but i would start a new one if those arent good classes to combine with for a melee build.
I very much like attacks like savagery and blade arc, i just dont want to play up to lv 85 and realise it just can´t finish the game(at least the story mode)
before exp. I played through the game with lightning warder and poisonwitchblade before exp., so i would try any other classcombination than those.
Sorry for the long post, thanks for everybody answering me

I’m playing a 2H Warder and loving it so far. Give that a shot.
Thank you for the answer.
I have played a warder with a very similar build before the expansion was released and i liked it very much.
I just would like to start a new char for AoM. Are there maybe other viable options arround?
played through the expansion with a 2H reaper (nightblade/necro). was fun. pretty easy all the way up to about level 95 or so. got a bit tedious at that point. i think my gear was simply outdated, though. still had mostly level 75 or lower stuff.
basically just go for bone harvest+soul harvest, some shadowstrike to get around quicker, blade burst+lethal assault etc.
i liked the strong AoE damage. bone harvest pretty much insta kills most trash groups right away.
Thank you too for your answer. Reaper sounds nice so far.
Did it work out for you with OA and the relatively low health pool?
And did you go mostly for cold damage(with transmuter of bone harvest?)?
Devotions could be maybe Murmur(sounds nice
Leviathan and stuff for health(?).
Did you use anything like troll rage(i dont know how much Stuff like this does exist) or are Bone harvest, Amarastas BB and Shadow strike enough attacks(thinking about the cooldowns)
And did you try ravenous earth for flat reduction?
Sorry for all the questions
best regards
i think i used spider & eel to unlock kraken early (imo strongest devotion and pretty mandatory if you play 2H). then went for viper, murmur, manticore and decided to go for rattosh instead of the more conventional leviathan (life leech RR, decent chunk of flat health bonus, some resistances on constellations i had to pick up as prerequisites). also picked up behemoth and chariot somewhere along the way.
i went with the exclusive skill that gives life steal, so he didn’t actually feel squishy at all (up until late ultimate when monsters simply scaled too high - HP bar was jumping up and down wildly at this point, but life steal still kept him going)
it was mostly a cold build, but the exclusive skill also gives some vitality conversion and some bonus to vit and aether. rattosh also gives some vit& aether and the spectral binding/spectral wrath skills, too. so it ended up a bit of a mix.
didn’t go for ravenous earth. i put some points into ABB and ring of steel to bump their damage a bit higher (both start at <100% weapon damage initially). ABB has a chance to freeze, ring of steel with cold transmuter also freezes. didn’t need more cc. most trash groups died either right away in the bone harvest or were frozen for 1-2 seconds and died before they could do much.
didn’t use a default attack replacer. i used one of the new relics early on (something with vitality/life steal) and later another new one with +1 necro skills and some other stats (picked it for the +skills).
never felt the need for a default attack replacer. i had some points in the two necro weapon pool skills (eventually got them both to 25% chance) and the main skill “rotation” (bone harvest, abb, ring of steel, shadow strike) occupies some of those swing timers anyway. those 4 skills did pretty much all of the damage anyway. autoswings only really happened vs. bosses and some tougher critters like flesh hulks etc. and half of those swings get replaced by the 2 weapon pool skills.
Thank you again MK1980 for your shared experience with this build.
I think some things will figure themselves out when playing(still thinking about Rhowans crown over Manticore if the cold dmg is superior), but i think i will try it the way you sugested first.
I like the looks of the blight beast so i will maybe one point use it for cheerleading until it dies instantly.
So far, i made a grimtool theory for this, so it is easyer if someone has another good idea and for faster research if someone else wants to make a similar build.
The last 5 devotionpoints are a little bit random in harp and targo now.
One last question, does anybody know an Item that converts cold to aether dmg?
best regards
I’ve beaten AoM with my Forcewave Witchblade:

Play as my very old build of 2h conjurer, with some little tweaks (new gear from AoM, and still non of all of them are BiS).
Very smooth gameplay, zero issues.
P.S. Ritualist (necro + sham) are also very solid choice.
Thank you too for your answer.
Witchblade sounds also very interesting, especially when i look at your gear, i think i have two or three of the parts (of c. without the mythical…)
stored somewhere.
Thank you very much for showing me this build
Ok, now i have to chose
a scythe wielding toon would be very cool, especially if ritualist would work out. Couldn´t hit the necro theme more.
Hm. Looking into the grimtools, Conjurer looks maybe stronger to me for its ability to slow enemys with curse o.f. and increased attack speed and flat vit.dmg for sol.wf .
would the wps and siphon souls on the other hand make up for this? Resistance-reduction seems to be similar.
I think i have to make at least two chars
Ritualist maybe like this :http://www.grimtools.com/calc/w26MQAbN
Thank you too very much for sharing your build with me.
wish everybody a nice weekend
conjurer doesn’t have bone harvest, though. that skill is pretty awesome for a 2H weapon user.
i’ve played 2H builds specialized to (mostly) single target before. they work, but they feel kinda pointless since DW beats 2H at single target damage any day of the week. 2H is great for heavy hitting area damage stuff that scales with weapon damage. ie. stuff like bone harvest.
2H reaper was much more fun to play than the 2H cadence toon a played a while back.
Oh, sorry, i dont even have Mythical Ring of Black Matriarch and Mythical Avenger of Cairn (using normal versions). Just forgot to put normal versions in grimcalc.
However, Mythical legendaries in my case dont provide drastical difference, anyway. Just a bit higher DPS, that’s all.

Haven’t seen anyone post an ultos setup yet. Haven’t much time into optimizing it, but it’s super super good.
150-200k dots, 200k+ savagery crits, and primal strike can hit for 600-620k. Falcon swoop does some surprising damage as well with ~90% conversion! The amount of cdr Ultos provides is super super good. You get almost 100% uptime on hungering void devo proc and primal is on a really low cd
Thanks, elementalist could also be a great Idea.
For now i am sticking to a Vitality Ritualist.
Btw, i have seen this badge of Mastery on some builds, is there something about it that i miss that makes it so good? Of course, it has elemental resistance and OA, is it just that?
So far, thanks everybody for your advice.
I like this 2H melee theme, and will maybe try some of the other suggestions in the future if i have enough spare time
have a nice time
Completion bonus is +3 to one skill +2 to another (possibility to have +5 if both end up on the same skill) there is something like half a million possibility (honestly it is like 186 if I remember correctly) and it need to be crafted (it take Oleron Blood so it is costly).
Ah, okay, thank you.
It is one of the few legendary recipes i actually found once but i didn´t use it so far because of (at least as i thoughed) better options.
Think i still won´t try to craft 500 pieces of them to get some i want to use
It is by no means the most powerful, but I have found my death knight ultimate capable: http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61672
