started playing and im already level 20 with arcanist, got to act 2 where you fight these outlaws and i can see my character is pretty lame (act 1 was much easier) .
time to upgrade !
I want a mage character that can deal massive AoE damage, with 1 powerful concentrated spell to deal with bosses (maybe this aether ray?), and i also not willing to give up on pets. the ideal is that me roaming around grim dawn world kicking ass while my pets destruct my enemies from me.
what do you offer to take as mastery, and where to put my points?
I think my only option is druid or warlock as I want pets, but I am open for any ideas that include pets.
I have 21 skill points and 6 devotion points, and im “level 25” in the arcanist (just enough for that aether ray) - so please, tell me where do you think i should invest them.
please reply soon, Im stuck and wanna get back to kick some ass
thanks in advance!
p.s - i dont wanna spam around panneti, spell isn’t cool enough imo.
Despite there being quite a lot of equipment supporting pet hybrid builds they mostly end up lacking, and you’re better off either entirely focusing on pets or just dropping the pets and deal damage yourself. Most of the hybrid gear comes from the Shaman class, so that’s a natural pick if you still wanna try.
I suppose you could also make a really wonky Warlock pet build that uses Hellhound and the summon from Og’napesh focus, and use Olexra Flash Freeze to CC and debuff Fire resistance for your two fire based pets. Use Mirror of Eorectes to protect yourself if you draw too much aggro, and blast enemies away with Wrath of Agrivix. It’d be quite unique at least
If you wanna start over with something new instead of Arcanist I recommend the La Magra conjurer. It’s a more involved pet build focused around devastating bleed procs.
IMO you want to be too much an hybrid. I mean, “massive” AoE + “powerful” Single Target + “destructive” pets it is not going to happen. At least, if you want to be a mage, you should drop pets, as in my experience they require a dedicated skill/item setup that belittle too much your casting power. That is, at least if you want to reach ultimate with this char. Also, a conjurer (occultist+shaman) is the default choice for summoners.
If this is your first char, AAR is not a good choice. It can be extremely powerful, but also require some good gear to keep it spammable (energy cost become absurd at high levels), and it’s a bit difficult to use.
Also you do not specify if you’re lacking damage and/or survivability. so all i can say is that battlemages (arcanist+soldier) offer a good mix of offense/defense, but have no pet options.
EDIT:

Once I tried something very similar, but it not work at all in later elite/ultimate, and is too slow and wonky anywhere else.
