Are Inquisitor WPS supposed to work in melee?

Because they do (at least the first two, I haven’t skilled Storm Spread). I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s noticed, but I didn’t see other posts about it. So this is in Ideas rather than Bugs because I want to say I hope you don’t change it! (other than the skill description).

It’s really handy on my melee Purifier to have another hands-free Devotion trigger in Bursting Round, and I can’t see that letting melee characters have some elemental WPS is going to cause balance issues, even if it’s not entirely the flavour you might want out of the class.

Anyway. Thanks for the expansion, fantastic stuff.

You’re right, this does seem to work.
I tried on my DW char and I bound Blizzard to each of them, and it goes off once in a while.

I can’t see any of the WPS effects (Storm Spread one is impossible to miss) or any special attack animation though. This has to be a bug since the description says it’s a ranged WPS, I wonder if they’ll keep it.

This has to be a bug. The wps, for some reason, do work with melee but the description specifically they are a RANGED technique, so they shouldn’t work with melee.

It’s clearly a bug.

Does the WPS itself triggers or only devotion bound to it? E.g. would chilling rounds freeze? Or would additional numbers show up?

They seem to trigger because i’ve seen electricity on the dummy i was testing. And my Tactician has no lightning attacks whatsoever.

Same thing with Bursting Round explosion FX and Chilling Rounds leaving an ice cloud FX.

Damn. It’s high time to introduce Gunblades into GD.

Yes, this works with all 3 Inquisitor WPS, although Bursting Round and Chilling Round are the only ones that seems to show a visual effect…

This is probably a bug, considering those WPS are tailored for guns, but since skills like Upheaval and Feral Hunger now works with guns, I wouldn’t mind if Crate turned this into a feature.

Heh. Bye bye tri-element sabo. You was a legend, but now it’s time to pass the torch.

Except this wps line is supposed to be for ranged builds, same for Dual Blades line for dual wield. Making it work with melee just starts to homogenize it, making it lose its individuality.

I assume it is a bug. If it not a bug then the nightblade WPS line should be changed to work with ranged dual wield to balance things out.

Not really. It still would be superior as a ranged technique much like some of the other WPS that “work” for ranged, but lose their AoE capabilities. Something that I have always found irritating because it limits a lot of potentially intriguing builds.

Yes, really. Bursting Round still has the aoe with melee, Chilling Rounds has no aoe to begin with and only loses it with Storm Spread.

Also, melee also already has enough shit as it is. Let ranged have their own unique skills.

This. Just look how many skills and procs are melee only compared to ranged only. Hell all the movement skills are melee only and inquisitor is the only mastery even has skills tagged as ranged only.

If these skills are going to work with melee they should do the same with dozens of melee only stuff.
That limits builds too.

Ranged shears…
Ranged execution…

If that ever got introduced, I wouldn’t touch any other weapon anymore.

That’s not a bad thing!

I would actually love it if the skill description was at fault here and those were intended to be used with ranged and melee weapons. =)

If we’re not supposed to be able to use these 3 skills with a melee weapon, this is the only incidence I know of that doesn’t state (certain-kind-of-weapon is required). Saying it’s a ranged technique is not the usual- something required. In fact, the skill “ranged expertise” says “ranged weapon”. The others do not.
