I currently have a 38 Totembuild Conjurer focused on lightning and she seems
really weak, it takes 10+ seconds to get max damage due to the CD of totems and the agro goes directly to her, which means she has to be tanky as hell and run around, in hopes that the totems kills the mobs before they kill her.
The problem is endgame, because there is no way those totems will be able to do as much damage as other classes can, like Warder or Saboteur. Add to the fact that totems has a really short castrange which means the character has to be in melee range almost.
So i’m considering respeccing my Conjurer to summoning instead, but i wanted your opinions first on the matter… Are totems viable endgame or do they lack punch ?.
Personally i don’t understand why we have the CD on totems when there is a max 3 rule as well.
I’m currently finishing up act 1 in ultimate HC with a totem build with my primary being storm totem. It is maxed out at 26/16 skill points, does 7k damage to 7 targets (chain). It’s not as fast of a killer as other characters but you don’t have to stay around and fight either (I have 135% run speed). Combine that with the 75% slow down and wide area of effect that entangling vines (12/12) do and you nearly stop them in their tracks while storm totem does it’s thing. I have a fairly decent reduction to cooldown so I can drop 3 of them fairly quickly.
That said. I have a problem getting my health up where I feel it needs to be for act 4 ultimate hc. Working on that still, I may need to respec devotions which will lower my damage output on storm totem.
I haven’t it tried in Elite or Ultimate, but I had a very successful Shaman build that used Wind Devil (for Maelstrom), and Storm totem, along with Wendigo for the heals. It actually worked really well, and Veteran Log was easy - but that says nothing for late game, of course. If you want to stick to lightning, I’d recommend Wind Devil too. Also, it has the same CD as the totems so you can spam them all at once.
A Conjurer that is focused on lightning isn’t really the best as a druid would be better. However, if you want a Totem build as a Conjurer, I would focus on Vitality. Take Storm Totem with Corrupted Storm, Wendigo Totem & Devouring Swarm. Max those out and than focus on the skills in the Occultist.
For the Devotions you can use this: (you need only 15 points to get started)
Crossroads: Blue & Red
Gallows
Jackal
Wendigo (attach this to Devouring Swarm)
This is what I am running and it is quite strong on vetern and I am sure it will be good at end game as well.
I don’t know if this would be considered a “totem” build, but my trickster is pretty reliant on his wendigo totem. I use to have storm totem, but dropped it because in the time it took to drop both, I would have just killed the stuff anyway, and it sucked on ultimate nemesis
My Storm totem/Wind Devil (+Trozan) Druid is very strong in ultimate. Doesn’t necessarily clear trash as fast as my DW pierce Blademaster but is vastly better at killing non-Fabius Nemesis bosses.
