So, I am trying to figure out armor a bit more… but is MORE armor always the same reduction?

I don’t quite understand how it works, but I was just wondering if there is kind of a sweet spot, etc. Or if you can keep raising it without sacrificing too much, it’s just a TON of phyiscal damage reduction?

If you can raise it without sacrifices, then I would raise it personally.

Btw DA doesn’t seem to have that much of diminishing returns either. I was increasing it from 2500 to I think 3800 against 2700 OA and 50% Crit damage I think by 100 and here’s how incoming average damage multiplier lowers:

DA

dmg

2500

99.%

2600

94.6%

2700

90.0%

2800

87.2%

2900

84.3%

3000

81.5%

3100

78.7%

3200

75.9%

3300

73.1%

3400

70.3%

3500

65%

3600

59.8%

3700

54.8%

3800

51.4%

But after 3800 DA it was no longer reducing the incoming damage because chance to miss and low OA damage penalty are capped by 40% and 1/7 of the damage respectively.

This is btw where 51.4% comes from. Minimal chance to hit is 60% so your average damage is 60% damage then. Because

60% of hits are non-crits for 100% damage

40% of hits are misses for 0% damage

You add this 1/7 damage penalty and you get 6/7 * 60% ~ 51.4%
And this 1/7 penalty comes from PTH / 70 = 60 / 70 for PTH lower than 70

But of course this is average. You may be more concerned about not being critted

Thanks for that reply. That is really useful. So the dmg % you are listed is just averaged with misses, right? DA doesn’t actually reduce the damage of normal hits from what I understood, correct?

Yes, they are averaged except that low OA vs high DA penalty to damage (up to about 14% or 1/7 of the damage, it’s included in those damage multipliers above) but you only get that when you approach 4000 DA and it’s not that big to begin with so it’s rather theoretical as going for such DA might be too much to get normal hits to 100% * 6/7 ~ 85.7% at best (although I haven’t tried getting that much DA personally to see how feasible it is):

DA

dmg penalty for every hit of a 2700 OA monster

3500

3.61%

3600

7.58%

3700

11.53%

3800

14.29% (max)

3900

14.29% (max)

as monsters not crit you it means they will deal (100% - penalty) damage when they hit you.
