Aura Removal

Do all nemeses have the ability to remove auras?

I ran into Fabius for the nth time on my usual farm run, when I noticed I was losing hp far quicker than normal. My BM has tanked and spanked him everytime without deaths, but this one time I only realised at the very last second before dying (to my shock) that I had had all my auras removed.

I’ve never had this ever when fighting him before.

Pretty sure Grava is the only one that can do that. Maybe Fabius weapons had energy leech?

No loss of energy at all - it was something I also checked. I never have to worry about that with my current build.

I have had all auras removed once before from the wraiths in Ugdenbog which I think was from energy leech, but still had quite a bit left in my pool.

double post because I suck

Aura removal is an extremely lazy difficulty gimmick. I wish GD had mechanics like “you have to kill all the crystals before you can hurt the boss” but instead they never put so much as a toe outside the holy trinity of boss design:

MOAR DEEPS
MOAR HPEEZ
MOAR DEBUFFZ

The loot/character building puts this game head and shoulders above the rest. The bosses are just hurty HP batteries, tougher bosses get more hurty and more batteries :stuck_out_tongue:

This is purely subjective. This might sound fun to you but I don’t like the idea of a temporarily invulnerable boss outside CRPGs/Turn Based RPGs

Btw avoid double posting.

Ditto. I’m fine with bosses just being “MOAR” everything; I don’t want to play a puzzle game. Also, it wouldn’t fit thematically; bosses aren’t mad scientists with invulnerability crystals, they literally are the moar version of the mooks we’ve been killing up to that point.

That said, I don’t like aura removal either.

Well to be fair some of them kinda are

Also, don’t like Nullify either. It worked for Fabius, would’ve been cool to see Bourbon or Lokarr do it but Grava doing it - nope

When I say lazy I just mean like literally, from a programming perspective nothing is easier you’re just tweaking values up and down. Also all the nemesis and most bosses in GD are just larger versions of common mobs. Would be cool to see some more unique critters.

Combat is fun as hell don’t get me wrong, but as far as interesting bosses go D3 beats grim dawn before you’ve left Act I. The real bosses for me aren’t mobs, they’re my other toons lol. Always trying to build tighter and make more effective toons. And still feel like I’ve got 90% more to learn on that front lol. Which is not a bad thing.

All that said aura removal is stupid, this is the most buff dependent rpg I’ve ever played.

I dislike this mechanic, and never liked it since it was first represented by Lox.
It’s too cheap, impossible to counter, and overly dangerous.
Especially when I have my auras on the second slot bar, as the primary is stuffed.

In my last fight with Theodin, two consecutive “arcane” heroes spawned. It was an “intense” clash, the bad way.
BTW nullification use to also purge ointments as well, being a global debuff…
Not fun.

Guess I should scrap the raidboss I was working on. And just when I figured out how to work ‘objectives’ into a fight too.

Edit: To clear up the main question of the thread, Fabius cannot ordinarily strip buffs.

Edit 2: Hmm, maybe I can just make the objectives technically optional but the most efficient way to handle the fight.

Well to be fair I think you’re stacking my idea w the ridiculously one-shot tarded current boss mechanics. that’s not how i imagine it- the idea would be INSTEAD OF infinite HP or DPEZUS on world bosses/nemesis you have something you have to run around and do, or wait for, or catch notice of on screen and react accordingly- then when the boss is vulnerable you actually hit him for real damage, none of this one hour world boss fight-longer-than-MMO-raid-bosses-with-none-of-the-reward nonsense.

If this is the case, do any lower level Cronley mobs have this ability, like heroics? If not, it may be that there is a weird glitch happening somewhere.

No.

If you didn’t run out of energy, the only other question to ask is whether you were playing multiplayer with desync?

No, single player only and no mods.

There’s only handful of mobs that have dispel skill - basically it’s Loxmere, Grava, Arcane heroes and couple spawns from Theodin. Here’s the full list.

Cheers Dammitt, and nice teaser ss for the up and coming monster db

As a matter of interest does Fabius have an energy leech attack, and if so how big?

My BM has 3198 energy total and sits at 2450 with all auras/buffs running. Energy regen is 37.39 after auras applied and I have 10% energy absorb just for info. No energy leech resist.

It’s not really a teaser per se since it’s just db UI, but the query for the data is custom, there will be no way to search like that in actual db.

As for Fabius, he doesn’t have any skill with energy leech, so probably he spawned with a weapon that has this mod.

The thing that can sometimes happen to me (but I’m fairly stupid so this may not apply to you) is that I for one reason or another need to access my second tab of skills where I have all of the permanent auras and potions (usually just before fighting a Nemesis or a very hard boss) and than I forget to switch back. So when I press the buttons to use active skills, I turn off all my auras. After that, I pretend I did it on purpose to make the fight more interesting
