Auto Potion Pickup

It’s too much automation in games already. I dont want to sound negative, but whats the purpose of auto potion pickup urge if, basically, you autoheal in no time. You can just run around and kite mobs until your health is full, without even need for potion.

Im also not so sure about such aggressive autoheal, as it sounds like walk in the park in most scenerios. If there will be autoheal like that, potions should be as rare as water on desert, just for boss fights.

I prefer TQ mechanism, when you had to make compromise, between eighter auto healing/running faster or wearing higher dps gear, whatsoever.

Anyway if this will make game better without dumbing down difficulty and introducing new exploits, why not.

You make it sound as if the heal will go off after a quarter of a second and keep going while you’re being pelted by ranged attacks.

If it’s anything like other games that have it, it’s not feasable at all to kite while waiting for it to kick in. Some games will also check if you are “being attacked” which doesn’t necessarily include taking damage.

Since we’re discussing auto-gold pickup (originally at least) is an auto-sell white/greys button at the vendors an out of place idea?

Grey items will not drop but disappear. If you have deigned to pick a white item, you might actually need it. I’d like to see a more powerfull vendor interface though.

Not a huge fan of automatically picking up pots unless there’s some configuration on which pots we’d like to pick up if any at all.

They said it gonna be only one kind of potion to pickup (which heal by percentage). And potion stack up to 50 or 99, not sure. Nothing finalize yet.

Yeah, I would like configuration for auto pickup. This is concerning build that doesn’t use up much mana or potion. But since the stackable number is high I don’t mind much but still…

I voted no. The reason is that potions affect gameplay (you can’t drink a potion that you’re not carrying can you?).

Auto-picking up potions means that you’re basically given out health orbs (a la D3). In a tight fight, a player should have to choose: do I keep attacking, or do I abandon attacks to go pick up potions that may have fallen on the battlefield?

Of course, if you said “We’re designing combat with the assumption that players are auto-picking up potions and using them on the fly, and if you don’t do that, you’ll likely be overwhelmed,” then I’d vote yes - but I don’t believe you’ve said that.

Yeah I thought I remembered seeing something like that but I’m in the middle of quitting smoking so my patients for digging through threads is about equal to ‘\0’… ;D

Can never have too much configuration. If anything, have an advanced section that holds nifty little stuff like this so new users and newbie gamers aren’t scared away from all options.

I don’t think so. This auto potion pickup is nothing like health orb at all. In a tight fight, there’s no way I would go and pickup potion because I bring 50-60 pots at once. And in TQ I’m not gonna fight if my pots count running low since that almost suicide in certain area.

They just make it easier for player to not bother with click each and every potion laying down on the floor.

Right. Maybe and advance gameplay options in gameplay option menu?

Oh boy! Another slider to the already extensive list of sliders to be added into the options menu!

Oh noes! No more slider mentioned please.

I think it should be optional. Either you turn auto-pick on or you turn it off. You could for example make to option checkboxes. One for auto-pickup mana potions and one for health potions (mana potions are not that important for a tank as well as healthpotions are of lower interest for a mage).

I like Sacred2 method of looting. Hit one key and all it looted.
Also has settings to ignore lower level crud.

This is what I would like to see as well. Though I anticipate I would leave the boxes checked for the majority of play, it would be nice to be able to turn it off.

How about this.

Alt Key+Click that lets you drink the potion immediately instead of just picking it up and putting it in your inventory.

There have been countless times playing ARPG’s where I have seen potions lying on the floor, but did not pick them up because they were inferior quality or because I didn’t want anymore in my inventory. But here’s the kicker, I could have benefited from drinking them immediately. However, its such a pain to pick it up, then open your inventory, find it, and drink it, that most of the time I don’t bother. However, if I could Alt+Click on the potion to immediately get its effects, I’d do that constantly.

as long as I can see the potions drop before they go into my inventory that would be nice, that way I don’t have to go out of my way to get them and still know I am gaining potions and not unsure if I am before I run out because I am not paying attention to the numbers rather frequency of them dropping vs usage

Seeing that pots are inevitable, maybe a party loot system with auto pickup. Not saying there needs to be a party stash but rather a built in way of distributing pots around to all players as they are found albeit automatically.

A player just chooses their preference to either health or mana so they will sit higher up the ladder of choosing when these pots drop.

Or… you could just see the pot laying on the floor and go, hey man, you’ve been taking quite a pounding, why don’t you take the pot?

Sounds like a simple solution imo.

Ah but then you would have to keep doing this. Constantly.

Forgive me for not reading through all 8 pages here, but I’m all for this idea as long as there’s a set potion cap and/or these potions aren’t taking space in my inventory.
