Auto Potion Pickup

Don’t tell me my son is the only one who spends all the gold he makes filling his inventory bags up with potions. I think he’s addicted to them. Last time I checked he had them mapped to the right click button.

I’d rather not have them auto pickup, at least not as long as they take up normal item slots.

I actually always preferred to play my D2 characters by stacking life leech and staying alive that way. It always feels like I’m much more self sufficient when I don’t have to pop potions and pick up new ones all the time.

I’d rather not have them auto pickup, at least not as long as they take up normal item slots.

The stack is somewhere between 50-99 pots… and they don’t drop that often according to medierra, AND they’re worth some dough… I don’t see how it can possibly be a negative, in ANY way for auto-pot pickup. I see a bunch of people saying they don’t want it, but I don’t understand WHY.

Apocrypha - just yesterday I collected some quotes regarding the [post=16614]changes for potions and healing[/post]. Saves you the trouble searching 1000+ threads. Auto-pot-pickup will not clutter up your bags in GD … but maybe you can disable it though.

i would like for the auto pick up to be modifiable, so i could select say pick up every thing of x quality like the item filter keys.
i only say this because when i get on a kill streak and im enjoying the fight, i do not enjoy stopping all the time to grab loot i feel it breaks the pace.
the off side to this is that u may miss the epic u just got and wanted to equip strait away but as u have set the option to auto grab items that’s your own fault for not stopping after a fight to check your inv.
this would work best if drops where your own and not so much if they where shared in co-op, multiplayer otherwise the option for sp would work for ppl like me who don’t have the net at home so prefer sp gaming because of this.

if it was an option like current filter buttons for showing loot on the ground so u could toggle it to the settings u wanted on the fly eg lower levels u can loot the lot as u get better and more gear becomes junk u switch to filter rare and above.

Auto-potion pick up sounds like a decent enough idea; I’ve never played TQ, and the only ARPG experience I have is the Diablo series. The only problem I can see with this, coming from my above stated limited experience, is if the potion system worked the way the potion system did in Diablo, i.e., one potion took up one inventory slot. If that were to be the case, then auto-potion pick up would be a very annoying and much hated feature.

It may have already been stated, but again, with this a potion stacking system would be an awesome sight to behold.

Well in TQ the potions stacked and my guess is that they will in GD too.

I find it hard to believe that there is pleasure coming from picking up potions manually. And even if you got too many in your inv you can always sell them from time to time. On the contrary, i remember situations, especially in early game, when i desperately needed another potion and had to frantically click in between the mobs to pick it up before dying. The auto-pickup could be a life save in such circumstances.

So, I wouldn’t even suggest a toggle for potion auto-pickup on and off. There seem to be too little reason for switching it off

Characters should be flat footed when drinking potions during battle. Maybe even have an animation.
When combat becomes a simple deal damage, drink potion routine it gets kinda boring. Either that or make potions a luxury, not a commodity.

Of course… I have no idea if this could work in an ARPG.

Medierra stated he doesn’t want to force animations for drinking because it would seriously annoy him.

I guess I agree with you Pinkfrog, no need to throw useless options into the game
Although I guess some would find it useful…

One way to work around the infinite health regeneration of healing potions would be by cancelling the healing effects if you take any form of damage.

I think the cool-down on the potions will act as a damper on the whole “infinite health” thing.

I like that there will be 1 potion, that’s tied to a percentage of health, with a cool-down. Also, I like the high stack number and auto-pick up.

May be more realistic, but here I am for simplicity, just keep on healing. Longer cooldowns between potions make the ‘infinite heal’ go away anyway (I seem to recall that the cooldown will be longer).

i have to say this here:furious: no matter what you do with game, some one will make a mod where u can do what u like anyway.

SO!

Why not just make that huge OPTIONS there is alot talk babout and make it a tick on and off option.

the more control a player have over his/her game the bigger audience you will have in my point.

but anyway, i allready agreed to auto pickups

Because options are more expensive to implement than not having them would be.

There is a point in having some for truly hotly contested and important topics, but for most options there is an obvious preference and that is what you should go with, instead of even offering a choice. Gold and potion pick up are among those.

Auto-pickup for anything that does not occupy back-pack space is a good thing.

Auto-pickup-then-manual-clearout-of-backpack to hold non-crap-stuff is a bad thing.

In theory I agree, in practice I make an exception for potions, they take up little space as they are stackable (in GD moreso than in TQ).

Why not have a special room for potions? Say, a belt, which can hold hundreds of potions and only potions?

meh I don’t like that idea. I liked the way of Diablo 2. You got your bet for quickslots and you can use space of your inventory for more if you want to.
I think that’s a nice approach.

What if while at the start of the game you would have to deal with potion drinking animations and later in the game you would get to use special gear like IV Belts. (potions should be small, not like the jugs in Dungeon Siege 1 :p)
While drinking a potion you could have 100 hp regeneration over 10 seconds and while using the belt you would get 100 hp over 5 seconds.
It would allow for fast cool animation. I mean if healing spells get animations why not potions.
Of course if there’s no pvp, no point in all that.

I also like the warcraft 3 canceled healing if hit. You could have a potion give an instant boost of 33% of it value while the rest would be over time regeneration.

voted no. Or at least put an option in the the game’s option screen. Gold is fine, but i’m still a clicker, like to pick most stuff myself :p. Plus ur inventory could get unvoluntarely full fast.
