I never really crafted the badge of mastery because of how random is the skill you get and how costly is it.
About a week ago I decided to make a Shadow Strike poison/acid build and since the Venom set doesn’t give + to shadow strike the only option left to have a hight lvl Shadow strike is to have a Badge of Mastery with +5 to shadow strike.
The other good option for the badge of mastery is for builds that convert damage but doesn’t have gear support for the new damage type and the skill combined. A good solution is having a badge of mastery + 5 to your main skill and use a set that support the best your ‘‘new’’ damage type (converted). A exemple could be cadence with the transmuter for the elemental conversion, use the Iskandra set for the elemental damage % and a badge of mastery to support cadence.
All in all if the Badge of mastery could give all the time or a really high% +5 to one skill I would actually try to regularly craft a few.
Doesn’t really matter much since Badge of Mastery will not be returning in a Mythical form. Hopefully new medals will provide alternatives to suit your needs.
I’d like to see bom reworked to be more useful, but dont think its gonna happen.
So when i want a bom for a specific build, i craft a bom, destroy it, and then “craft” the one i want using gdstash. I just cant and do not want to invest the time to craft hundreds of them to have maybe one or two that are useful, but dont want to cheat the one i want without any investment

If we could actually get +5 to one skill 66% of the time it would still allow some crafting, but you would at least eventually get what you want. It would also probably be easier to even trade for the one you want.
The incomming expansion adds more skill (2 new masteries), that will become even worst haha… unless the devs change the chance to have +5 to one skill.
Not enough to make you wanna craft it a lot.
Anyways, My suggestion was based on my own experience with one build that I made the last week or so.
If they don’t make the change I will still play the game but i will focus on what’s really work and the ‘‘meta’’. It’s much easier that way to make a build working and to make it powerfull.
I also made the threads in regards to what I see on other threads concerning the non support to skills once you convert damage because once your damage converted you don’t have +skills on gear for the new damage type converted.
It was also in regards of the thread concerning killing the Mad Queen, which have 2 subject into it and one being the support of damage within one mastery that doesn’t have the damage type that you want… hence why i sugest that combined with a badge of mastery with damage conversion from another item(s) and a set that would promote your build you would end up with something good.
And conversion from one damage to another would become easier to handle generally speaking… not perfect but much better. It would at least be good for skills, and not just good for procs, because most the time damage conversion is good for procs build. Not as much for skills.
Ok…ok well the fact remains its an rng base game and the only way to improve such odds will be lowering the recipe cost which they are doing in expansion, improving the % to get a +5 just diminishes the value of such item and then we start complaining that every build uses a +5 bom because everyone can craft it so easily.
I’m not asking to craft a perfect one in 5 shots either. I would like it to be easier to have +5 towards a skill but i’m not asking for super easy. It’s just a matter of balance. under maybe 100 craft? Dunno what would be right.
Also just for the records a lot of my builds aren’t using the badge, none in fact, a few use the ikrix/rare though and some a good legendary medal. That’s the first Time I wanna use a BOM to be honest and reading the forum about damage conversion and gear support for the new damage type of any skill made me do that thread.

EDIT: Oh and btw, conduits are amulets, so you are still stuck to crafting a perfect BoM and a perfect conduit :^)
You still have to get the blueprint for each Conduit (it’s 8 blueprints in total) but crafting them is a lot less painful than BoM. Plus just the base stats of Conduit are pretty great.
Necro amulet has the dumbest modifiers and Demo has the best ones. Aether Stun Jacks and Vitality Fire Strike sound dope as fuck.
There is a lot of good options for Ele to aether conversion, so Aether modifier on SJ dosent look so appealing.
Probably the worst medal is Arcanist - there is not even a single good modifier >_>
