Have about 700 hours in, but haven’t been playing GD for most of the year. Just bought the new DLC and want to get to it, so need to kill Log… Not sure if any of the builds since then have made real changes. Was able to get through Log on other builds, have several at 85.
level 73 conjurer on elite, all high resists, 18K health, easy kills on the tentacles, but for the life of me, cannot seem to do any damage to Log at all.
Must’ve killed 40 tentacles so far, but zero damage to Log. I run up to him, face tank him and whack away, but his health barely moves.
Tried both one and 2 handed weapons with augs, but not its simply doing nothing. Been at it for 2 days now.
Please go to http://www.grimtools.com/calc/ - the first button in the navigation bar enables you to upload your build and the second one creates a URL, so that you can share your build here.
Can you upload your build with www.grimtools.com/calc. There should be an arrow to the top-left with which you can upload your player.gdc file and a way to save a link to it below.
Well your problem is as plain as day - you lack resistance reduction. I’de suggest putting points into Vulnerability (the modifier to Curse of Frailty) and Devouring Swarm.
Resist reduction is important because it is a multiplier to your damage and also as you have experienced first-hand - it means enemies that resist your damage type take more to it than being tickled.
You also have made some other confusing or questionable skill picks for what I assume is a Vitality character such as 1 points into pets and pet skills, taking Stormcaller’s Pact and not Possession and the points in Mogdrogen’s Pact but those aren’t as important as what I have said above.
Edit: I see you’re starting to take Shepherd’s Crook so i’m assuming you’re planning on this being a hybrid pet character in the future? Because as of now, it looks like they won’t be doing much. Your pets have basically no bonuses from constellations or gear - at the rate you’re going at, they will be next to useless in Elite/Ultimate.
Your gear is also all over the place  besides the the points in Sigil and transmuted Storm Totem, I would have trouble figuring out that this is meant to be a Vitality build.
Thanks!! Its funny, I played it for most of 2016 and missed a bunch of other games. Then I impulse bought a bunch during the Steam winter sale, and played them all, then bought a few this year.
There are so many uninspiring game releases lately, I suspect I’ll play Grim Dawn for a while again.
I’ve been fiddling with my endgame vitality conjurer for a couple of days. It was really hard letting go of Destruction and the Eldritch Fire devotion, but I did it. Hyperspecialized in vitality and I’m killing so much faster as a result; I also have zero energy problems now due to the Sigil costing much less. I suspect that wouldn’t have made sense at the beginning, or even up to the midgame, but once my vitality bonus was 2x my chaos bonus, I should’ve made the switch.
Evil_Baka’s suggestions are right on target; abandon any pets (except possibly for 1 point in Raven and as much of its aura as you need to shore up own your elemental resists), stack the Swarm and Vulnerability debuffs, and watch everything melt.
Take what I say with a grain of salt. I find hybrid conjurer builds are difficult to do well. Your pets are basically doing no damage without having some points invested. You’ve got no pet support. You’ve got no damage support for your own attacks. Your devotions and gear are all over the shop. Your damage is woeful. Your choice of gear is quite odd. You’re using empowered gorefeast which is more of a melee damage weapon to take advantage of attack damage converted to health but you aren’t doing any damage with vitality or chaos or lightning. You’ve got no ADCtH support. Having 18K health isn’t going to help you if you can’t kill anything. Your clear speeds must be woefully and frustratingly slow? You have lightning based skills but no support. The character can be salvaged reasonably easily, you just have to decide what damage type/s you want to focus on. If you want to do a hybrid pet build I’d probably suggest one or the other of the two pets otherwise you won’t have enough points to get the maximum support. I’d probably suggest briar thorn for the added taunt that can pull enemies off you. I also think running this kind of build without doombolt is not the way I’d do it because that health reduction is important even if minimal against bosses. I hope this helps.
I would say to pick a theme and stick with it. Right now you’re all over the place in both damage types and strategies, which just means that you’re trying to do multiple things and sucking at all of them instead of doing one thing well. Conjurers are really good at pets, so you could easily do a pokemaster build. Vitality conjurers are also pretty amazing and you could easily build towards the endgame build with half second CD doom bolts. And of course there’s always DEE and just using shaman for buffs and entangling roots. Lots of ways to go, but you do need to pick a lane so to speak.
Yeah, have started restacking everything. This particular character build was the last one I did before I stopped playing late last year. I remember that I was playing around with aether resistance a bit because of Port Valbury, so I made a mess of all everything in the toon. Played a bit, got distracted by something else, and abandoned it.
I may play from the beginning and do another warder build. Have a business trip this week and will read what new builds people have done in the past year (have to have something to do on the plane!)
Well, all’s well that ends well (whatever that actually means!)
Was able to resuscitate my abandoned build and make it work. Just face tanked Log, one sitting, took about 10 minutes. Health never got below 50%
Thanks to everyone and the great advice. This is one of those rare gaming forums where people act normally and actually collaborate and help fellow gamers without being… well… you know.
And Doom Bolt is awesome! Never used that one before. Also, re-positioned Blood of Dreeg to my 1 key and used it to regain health whenever it recharged. That, plus Sigil of Consumption bonded to Dryads Blessing, plus everyone’s favorite, Wendingo Totem made sure my health was always good.
You know your medal is robbing your doom bolt of a lot of its damage right? Also if you are focusing vitality damage picking up wendigo is a better option than dryad and binding it to sigil of consumption.
Yeah, dunno why you are using a medal that converts vitality to fire… when you are not a demolitionist? Maybe you got the medal before AoM when it did not have that speciality.
I assume you are a ranged caster right? I feel you should then invest in Bloody Pox and Curse of Frailty, both reduce resistances and slow enemies, pretty much a must have for a ranged character. Also, not sure why you maxed out Mogdrogen’s Pact, that skill is more useful melee characters and pet builds. You should max Possession and Second Rite instead if you are vitality oriented.
