Beginner, what Class?!

Hello:)

I Just started the game. I am really unsure what to Play. I did read some Guides.

Since i got nothing, and i playing selffound the build can Not Depend on gear. What advice youve got?

What is better to Play selffound, dualwield Pistols or Shaman/soldier?

I’d say Soldier + Shaman is a very safe bet for a beginner, as well as Occultist + Shaman pet builds.

Dual wield pistols is already dependent on gear to even access the play style.

You will only be able to dual wield pistols, if you have an item, which grants this ability. That won’t be before level 20. It is expected that the upcoming expansion will include a class, which closes this gap.

Warder (Soldier+Shaman) is a solid start.

But you are pretty flexible, how you can build a char. So, I usually ask myself, if I want to play melee or ranged, and if I want to focus on weapon attacks or skills / spells. Depending on that I choose my two masteries.

I have a Warder in the low 20s using Savagery and focusing on lightning damage. I am playing on Veteran and finding that even with my totem out, I’m just taking way too much damage, let alone being able to dish out much. I feel as though I must be doing something wrong. :frowning:

That might be. But the early game can be hard, if you unknowingly started an ambitious build. :stuck_out_tongue:

Care to create a Grim Calc link to share your build (incl. Devotion)? And what weapon / shield are you using?

Eisprinzessin - Here’s my calc: http://grimcalc.com/build/1007-zqBHk7

I have all but 10 attribute pts (reserved for endgame) assigned to physique. I have yellow sword/board with a lodestone on my weapon which is acting as the only AOE I have.

I have an Alvarick’s Rebuke that’s making me think of going 2H at level 40, but I do like having a shield.

I have seven devotion points, and I’m sure assigning them will help, but I’m really not good with the constellation map.

I know I could always bump things down to Normal, but it’s so “easy” that I feel like I’m no accomplishing anything. And Veteran, I feel, is making me learn my build but, ugh, it’s been rough.

EDIT: I’m thinking of picking up storm totem, but it doesn’t seem like many people use it. I figured it’d be a solid dps source.

You rushed Shaman and also put a lot of points into Savagery and Storm Touched, so that your other skills are too week. I suggest to reassign some points from these skills to make Wendigo Totem stronger. And put a few more in Tenacity of the Boar.

If you want to keep the shield then get Overguard and Shield Training, but wait another 5 levels before you put more points into the bars.

For survivability I suggest to boost Menhir’s Will, and get Ghoul or Dryad to regain health while fighting. The earlier you unlock a celestial skill, the sooner it will level up and be strong for wait awaits.

Or as a shield bearer put your devotion points into Anvil.

You should also consider to use Markovian’s Advantage and Zolhan’s Technique. Weapon Pool Skills work great with an attack replacer like Savagery. And should you switch to a 2-handed weapon, then activate the Brute Force skill line.

I am not sure you will be happy with Wendigo Totem in the long run. Storm Totem synergizes better with a lightning build. Or use Wind Devil because Raging Tempest reduces elemental resistance, which will help with your lightning attacks.

Edit: If you get Anvil and Tsunami, then you meet the affinity requirement for Tempest. And if you use Weapon Pool Skills, then you have plenty of mastery skill for assigning celestial skills.

is that guide still viable?

how should i skill, i mean what first, on what lvl more/less:)

can´t post the complete link…

I think the game has not changed that much since then, so give it a try. If you have questions specific to that build, please post in that thread.

And sorry for hijacking your thread, but I thought you might be interested in discussing a Warder build.

To the OP: Sorry, but thank-you, for allowing me to hijack. I do hope the information has been useful to you as well.

Eisprinzessin: I think I screwed my build. If I keep this shield, I’m going to want to spec into Menhir’s, which excludes me from being able to pick up Stormcaller’s pact. Couple that with ditching Wendigo/Pact and it would appear that I’ve overspent in Shaman mastery and would need to reroll.

If I ditch the shield then I lose out on Soldier’s shield skills and the Anvil constellation, which rocks on my other toon.

Wait…is Menhir’s worth it even with a shield?? From the looks of things I believe I’d get more out of Stormcaller’s…

Thoughts?

By Menhir’s I mean the Bulwark, not Menhir’s Will. Sorry.

I’d say go Physical Witchblade. It’s a great class combination. Helps you learn about a lot of game mechanics. Physical damage allows you to be less dependent on gear (you can make it work with faction gear)

OP you can try out any class right from the start and then respec when you find out what you want to do. Or you could follow any of the guides by the wonderful members of this community.

Now for a little hijack:

I think eisprinzessin was discussing Menhir’s Will (the heal proc) not Menhir’s Bulwark (the exclusive). You can use Menhir’s Will and Stormcaller’s Pact. I am a fan of Bulwark but if you feel like you are lacking in damage, go for the Pact (you are also closer to getting the pact).

I also think that you are better off with Stormcaller’s Pact. I’d use Menhir’s Bulwark, e.g. if I had Forcewave, Blitz and / or Primal Strike, to increase the stun duration.

BTW - 1 point each in Blitz and Blindside can be of great tactical value later on.

Menhir’s Bulwark if you intend to use a shield build focused on physical damage. Stormcaller’s for lightning.

Shield= more tankiness btw.

How can i respecc? Is it expensive? Which lvl i Need to respecc?

THX

Visit Sahdina- Spirit Guide on the 2nd floor in Devil’s Crossing. Respec is a bit of a misnomer (in my opinion) because you can only refund actual skill points and not the points put into mastery. So, be careful and try to have a plan as you level. I’ve had to toss a few builds in the ol’ shitcan because of mastery.

It will become prohibitively expensive, if you max skills and frequently unlearn them. If you use it to correct mistakes, turn on / off transmutors or unlearn a skill, which you used for leveling, then the costs are negligible.

Ignore totem. Switch to 2h + Primal Strike, spread points between Primal Strike and Torrent, roughly 50/50. If you have energy issues then put less into Primal Strike and more into Torrent. 1 pt in Thunderous Strike to make it a non-CD skill. Assign Primal Strike to LMB instead of Savagery. Excess points go into Wendigo and Heart of the Wild. Should be enough to carry you through normal/veteran.

Playing shield builds requires a great deal of knowledge of game mechanics.

I stand by 2H Primal Strike for leveling any Warder, early game.

Heck, I prefer it for leveling Elementalists, too.
