Before when auras were activated manually you could (in theory, not sure if anyone did it) play this sword as Elemental one. Thus +%Elemental damage made sense somewhat. Right now auras are always on so all Elemental damage is always converted.
Moreover Elemental damage in its base acts as seperate instances of physical damage which make it much less effective against armor. I don’t think there is any reason to have that nowadays and not just a solid physical base.
Yeah, making it a solid phys base could be a very welcomed change. Right now this sword is only usable as melee for Cadence as an offhand to convert Soul Harvest, and maybe in early game. As a hitting weapon, it has to pass 4 armor checks.
Is it a general rule for every occasion of multi-element being converted to phys? Like, for example, will PRM work the same way if converted? If yes, shouldn’t we adress a more general issue, as some skills (like said prm) will not function properly if they need to pass an additional level of protection?
It’s a general rule for Physical damage. Each instance of it, converted or just natural phys is calculated separately against armor. So for instance your 12 flat phys ring augments will be counted seperately, gear bonuses, everything. That’s why it’s always good to have large solid chunks of Physical damage rather than multiple smaller ones. Also this is why it’s important to have high %damage value on Physical (and that’s why so called “tanks” with 2000% to Physical and full physique dumps are just hot garbage).
Iirc it’s the TQ engine things and it can’t be fixed.
Yes and no. If Zantai enables it with suggested changes to Tome of Names (there is a thread about it here) with proper ranks it can be actually something good. Like the flat pieces on the skill are big enough to not be destroyed by armor mechanics.
Apologise if it’s a dumb question but someone can explain me what does it means the change made to this item in the last changelog? Im using this sword in a dk build (by madlee) and can’t understand if it’s a nerf, a boost or something that won’t have any impact. Thanks.
For physical damage, each separate one needs to calculate the armor separately.
For Beronath, if its damage is 67 physical, 30 fire to physical, 30 cold to physical and 30 lightning to physical, you need to subtract monster’s armor 4 times.
But if combining the 4 separate damages together, then you will subtract monster’s armor only once.
