Really? Trickster was the first class I looked at but it struck me as very gear dependent as melee stuff tends to be :).
I haven’t played trickster myself, but it should be like those warfare+nature builds from TQ. Good damage, good hp, good sustain, decent crowd control, which are basically traits of a successful melee build.
Easy max hp regen every 5 seconds and total speed? -> Pneumatic Burst
Easy max hp regen every second? -> Wendigo Totem
Easy Damage? -> Get all the dual wield procs to level 5 + Savagery if you want
Easy moar max HP? -> Heart of the Wild
Nope far from gear dependent, it is probably the least gear dependent melee class as it gets a massive amount of slow best healing skill and high health Regen and excellent -resist just from the mastery alone.
Plus it’s very easy to build as a hybrid ranged/melee
And you can beat ultimate in mostly faction gear or random yellows relatively easily as a trickster

I may have to give this a look. LOVING grasping vines but absolutely loathe the visual of Swarm.
I wonder if I can make a trickster work with vines. I must say, so far loving this game.
I am now rocking a lightning caster Elementalist (shaman/demolitionist) who is also quite tanky. Just started Ultimate with it today without any entry gear so self found. It is very fun and surprisingly strong. I can point you to my spreadsheet build if you want some pointers

I’m also looking for a starter build but for hardcore. I’m fairly new to this game, only played till act3 or so with my druid. Mostly playing solo. I’d like to try a caster build of some sort preferably poison oriented. Any ideas and basic leveling tips?
Well in A2 now, level 21 and am getting rocked as a shaman. Following the Raikiri build.

You will feel the power once you hit 35 and get Kymon gear for dw lightning trickster, enemies start flying and you can facetank log at 40, till then its a bit of pain levelling with primal strike with constant lack of energy and defense.Again slows down when you reach ultimate though
Vitality conjurer on the other hand is smooth sailing right from level 2
Yeah I may get a conjurer to farm some gear and do trickster next. Very, very rough going at present.
Pohx has a video on his vitality Conjurer setup, does hardcore Ultimate “easy” due to so much layered healing and defense
but is specc’ed more defensively due to MP hardcore. So it can be adjusted to be do more damage

Yeah, of course! Here is a link to the spreadsheet. It is a mess atm and not at all fully finished build. It’s the Stun Jacks v1 you wanna follow. I’d recommend you to go for a melee build first 15-20 or so levels with savagery and /or Primal strike until you get to wind Devils properly. Btw, the devotion pathing in there is not how I did in the end. I’ll change it…
Let me pretty up the spreadsheet with some levelling pointers so it is understandable for any one else than only me
