Buff Oleron constellation and its devotion path for physical builds

Did some test runs with this setup for example to check whether huge OA makes Oleron great or not.

Didn’t survive 160 even once. Will try it with Empyrion+Ishtak some later

You can have both empyrion and oleron in one setup though. I believe my DW beronath warborn BM use that.

But I can’t comment on how it compares to other setup, as I haven’t experimented physical build that much.

That setup with ulzuin is so interesting though. Will see if it can work with physical defiler.

I’m leveling a FW tactician now, and devotions are actually pretty bad.

For ex. https://www.grimtools.com/calc/4VxYjbeZ I found this one just because I was a bit confused on how to level as FW tactician until I could go Arcanor at 94, and I was kind of annoyed as to how many of the constellations I had to take to get the prereq for Oleron were all defensive.

Crane, Empty Throne, Wolverine, Toad, Crab are all super defensive, while 1 or 2 nodes in one or more of the constellations may have some offensive benefit, it’s downright insulting to think you’d need so much defense when you’re going for Oleron.

On top of that Oleron itself is very underwhelming, half the nodes have to do with survival, and of the ones that are offensive, 2 are not mandatory(1 is not even taken most of the time because it’s trash, the top most node) and the 3rd is the proc.

Unknown Soldier, while being a much easier constellation to reach, is actually somewhat more powerful. What’s with no crit damage being available for Physical damage builds? Fighting Spirit I believe had crit damage earlier and this was taken away, but none of their skills grant any crit damage at all and there’s little benefit provided from constellations(Hawk is taken on almost every build so the point is moot).

Rhowan’s Scepter, is another underwhelming constellation. It has limited damage increases, and a very small flat phys damage bonus and is more aimed at defense, yet again!

By comparison, constellations like Blades of Nadaan is massively overpowered, so many good bonuses, I get that it’s limited to Swords only but if that was the case why isn’t Rhowan’s Scepter more powerful.

I was also a bit weirded out by the fact that I only used 2 points in Kraken, because attack speed is useless for Forcewave. Couldn’t one of the duplicate nodes be changed to casting speed instead? Kraken is already a fantastic constellation, crit damage, movement speed, health and all damage bonuses.

I fully agree with everything. +1

Two proposals on skills
1, Flat dmg changed to physical
2, increase physical RR to 30

Yes, Oleron is too weak for huge amount of affinity it requires. That’s the simple answer. And its proc is bad too - it’s “on-crit” with low CD (so competes with Assassin’s Mark, and most build cant effectively use both, even).

:)Hi,
Some new builds like warborn sentinel lacks of “x redused” type of resistance reduction and some constellation like Oleron nice spot for this stat, but it’s too low, only 12 for small AoE proc??? How about rising it a little bit, mb 18 or 20? And why res reducrion only for phys if some pierce or bleed builds (see below) can use Oleron?
And I can imagine what pierce damage doing (for this belgo-bois) on Blind Fury but bleeding damage? If this ‘‘lore intending’’ it is fine, but why not there isn’t any “x% bleeding damage” on Oleron nodes?

Can’t wait for all this cool sets from FG, you guys really outdid youselfs

I highly doubt pierce builds will use oleron in a few weeks, maybe time to remove it from the proc, change it to physical instead. Pierce got a couple of new constellations after all, and they’re pretty great.

Yeah i agree, i think oleron proc should be all physical&trauma, and RR could be a little better.

Agree proc should be physical and triggered by attack, not crit. For pierce Azrakaa and Unknown soldier will leave no room for it.

I agree it and the path before it has lagged behind other routes. I think this thread is worth some critical examination. But I also think that if Z acknowledges this to be the case, he could come up with a more graceful solution than something overly specific we write down.

It would be worth mentioning that if not just Oleron, which constellations before it could use some minor offensive touching up?

Other than Oleron, will nominate Attack seru.Seekers are better and for most builds spending green/purples will hurt potential. On top of that DG will probably outperform it and aether/elemental combos are hard to build,so atm no reason to use this for top tier constellation.

Many people concur here.
Luckily in the last patch notes:

  • Arcane Currents: increased damage scaling with rank and increased wave width and speed

However it might be a more complex/sticky situation where the constellations you need to pick to get into attak seru just an’t worth it. Unknown. Haven’t tested enough so holding my tongue on this one but worst case scenario might look like needing additional tier 1 and 2 constellations sprinkled around…

That being said devotion balance overall has never been better I think. I’ve used almost every constellation on at least one build at this point.

bump.

Why does Oleron Proc still give pierce? Oleron is a pure physical constellation and is not acquired by the pierce build.
FG has added a new T3 pierce constellation, so it’s a good time to make the change.

Even then shifting sands has a huge chunk of flat physical on it that on a pure pierce build gets fully converted, giving you some juicy sands.

Honestly, I would use Korvaak over Oleron any day of the week giving the choice but I’m weird like that (even if I think Korvaak needs some buffs as well)

On physical build I will use neither Oleron or Korvaak. Now with Ulzaad and Azraaka,no need for that. And you can always go meteors route.

+1

Oleron feels really useless there. It requires too much not-so-useful Ascendant affinity, and Blind Fury requires spammable ability that crits often, while physical builds ALWAYS use Assassin’s Mark, that procs on crit too. And even Oathkeeper builds dont use Oleron, cause it’s simply WEAK.
Why?
Well, first, Oleron itself and route to it doesnt provide stats that most physical buiilds really want - OA & ADCTH. Oleron is surely made for crit build, and crit build requires OA. A lot of it. Oleron should give more OA, not mere 30-15, but 40, or something like +5% OA. Or maybe add 6% ADCTH to it.
Second, Blind Fury is too weak. Why in the world it gives mere 15 reduced physical resist? It’s T3 constellation, you know! IT’s supposed to be MORE powerful, than T2 and T1 ones! Look at Ultos, for example. 25% reduced elemental resist - more powerful, than Viper (20%). Today, we got Reduced resist on so many constellations (Manticore, Revenant, Scales of Ulcama, etc), and all of them grant 22-28 reduction to ALL res. Why Oleron, with dedicated physical resist reduction, provides mere 15???
Make it 32 reduced physical resist, just like Rhowan’s Crown!
Third, why in the hell there is pierce damage on proc, when whole constellation is about physical? Change that for physical already! Would anyone like to see aether damage on Abomination, suddenly? Or physical on Blind Sage? Or chaos on Leviathan? Obviously, no!

Agree. The crit requirement is a nuisance, the RR is pathetic and realistically only a minority of mastery even benefit.

Changing the pierce to physical would not do much given enemy armour penalty. The weapon damage and trauma should both be raised. Shifting sands hits twice and has half the cd of Oleron too, and given the purple woes the buff would need to be moderate to see it being worthwhile again.

I agree 99%. The remaining 1% I disagree with is the value of flat-RR.
-15 is obviously missing, but -32 is a bit too much. It’s the same value as 14/12 Break Morale.
I feel that Oleron’s -RR is set up to fill those skill blank period.
If I had -32 RRs, I would not use Break Morale (The exception is Warbone.). Maybe they don’t want it.
So I think it’s reasonable to increase -RR value to 22 (Same as 8/12 Break Morale and 10/10 Shattering Smash).

In response to a couple recent responses:

I’ve personally been using Oleron on a pet build recently, and it’s quite good. Most things I’ve seen suggested would be buffs in some way to the build, but nothing major. But that said, wanna address some stuff.

The RR is something I don’t understand. It’s low. It doesn’t stack with other type A’s, and is only for physical damage. It doesn’t even work for bleed, despite this devotion being one of the better bleed damage procs. Most bleed builds I’ve seen don’t even grab this (particularly because the rest of the devotion has no support for bleed) and instead opt for Living Shadow instead, actually – but for pets, you can’t even use that.

I think the RR should at least be generic and raised to 18-22. Pierce can, and probably should, be changed to physical damage.
I think the bleed damage is completely out of place here, but please don’t remove the bleed part without adding an equivalent proc elsewhere though. I’m kinda using it on my bleed pet build. Would like something similar on a purple/red affinity t3 perhaps (perhaps with different area coverage?), but until then…

Also worth noting – if pierce is changed to physical and bleed is changed/removed, the phys RR makes sense. But the bleed, again, is kinda important for some builds right now…

So, overall, this is my idea for the devotion:

First point: 200 HP, 30 Cunning, 30 Physique
Second Point: 30 OA, 80% physical damage, 80% internal trauma damage
Third Point: 5% OA, 80 Armor
Fourth Point: 8% Total Speed, 4% physical resistance
Left Point: 9-11 Physical Damage, 100% Physical Damage, 6% ADCtH
Top Point: 90 IT over 5 sec, 100% Internal Trauma Damage, 10% Crit Damage, 30% Reflected Damage Reduction
Proc: Change Pierce damage to Physical. Res Reduction should be somewhere from 18-22. All resistance reduction would be preferred.

Overall, the defensives are down. Everything added is offensive related, which fits the theme better, especially considering you’re mostly gonna be taking defensive stuff on the way there.

Reasoning:
OA should be fairly prominent on a crit centric devotion, so added a little more while changing some things around.
8% total speed – Given how low the amount of speed stuff you get is from purple/yellow devotions, particularly while going physical centric (not as much the case with pierce), this seems to fit very well. Balance wise? This could be very dangerous… But at least it fits with the description of Oleron “charging recklessly into battle”.
6% ADCtH – same as above, and it goes on the point where you care more about your direct hit damage.
10% Crit Damage – For a crit centric devotion that costs so much, you basically have no options for crit damage on the way here. Unknown Soldier laughs at this.
30% Reflected Damage Reduction – Physical builds struggle with reflect the most out of any build type, and internal trauma reflect can get very nasty in particular.

This may need more balance stuff obviously, but this is the idea that I have for it. The 8% total speed is super questionable and I think it might be better to have it switch positions with the ADCtH in where it is on the devotion, but idk.

Again, just an idea. I might have to think about this more tomorrow.
