Can anyone suggest new fun class?

Hi all.

I’m wondering if anyone could suggest a more fun class for me?

I’m currently playing a Conjurer and have just killed Loghorrean at level 50 but in reality my pets did.

I actually just ran around a lot avoiding being hit while spamming Curse of Frailty and resummoning my pets when they died and apart from the occasional Grasping vines that all I ever do with this class, yes I rarely die but it’s really boring.

I would like a class that is more involved in the actual fighting, hard to kill, so perhaps a tank type class but that has some cool and fun skills, maybe some spells as well, especially aoe spells. So a tanky aoe spell flinging class that just steams into groups with barely a drop in health – if such a class exists. But it must be fun as well – a bit of flash wouldn’t hurt either.

With that said it doesn’t have to be a sword and board class if a caster has the skills to make a good tank. Fun is the main goal.

Thank you.

Kate.

I ran into a similar problem with my pet build. It was definitely fun to start with, but got boring when I did exactly what you described.

I eventually rolled a witchblade tank with a heavy focus on retaliation, group support, and survivability. It’s been a blast so far. I should note that I am playing co-op so not sure how this build would fare alone, though I’d think fairly well. I’m level 52 I think.

Ranged enemies are an annoyance sometimes, but I still have the hellhound to aid in killing them.

Unfortunately, it may lack in the “flash” you are after. No meteors raining from the sky or lightning snaking through crowds, just mobs punching me then exploding. Though blitzing into crowds never gets old.

I can’t post links, but Squib’s retaliation build is what I drew inspiration from for my own. I’m not following it exactly as his is a Warder, but I definitely checked it out.

What I do is just make something up, try to make it work and see how far you can get it while sticking to a theme. Working on a soldier tank now that is working on getting shadowstrike in addition to his own zoom-in skill. Super tanky at about lvl 20, max absorb, sword-n-board. Just zoom around slamming into stuff war crying all the while. Of course this is a MP guy so I can get a little goofy.

The term you are looking for is “initiator”, a skill that starts the kicking of ass.

As for the original poster, I’d suggest either Blade Arc or Force Wave. Both are rather badass thought I consider Blade Arc superior as it has a good built-in crowd control ability (knockdown, but don’t discount the disruption that the Damage of Time effects can cause).

P.S. These suggestions are based on the fact that you wanted a tanky build, and the soldier is the easiest way to do that (thought, possibly not the absolute best).

Thanks everyone.

I think I’ll have a look at Squib’s Warder as it seems a lot less specific item dependent than most other builds here plus it does look fun.

I was also looking at a few Battlemage builds and they too look fun and with a bit of flash but I think they benefit from a having some specific items in my stash ready for them which I don’t have yet.

Thanks again.

Kate.

Eh…i know fun is relative but IMO Squib’s Warder is the most boring build there is. You are invincible doing damage only via retalition. It means you walk into boss room and then you can go afk, make yourself coffee or something. You simply stay and wait until everybody kills himself…

It surely can’t be any more boring than running around trying not to get hit while your pets do all the work and spamming just one spell… I rarely get to see what the boss actually looks like most of the time.

But I get your point.

I would like a tanky class that has at least 3-6 active rotational skills so it actually feels like I’m doing the killing and taking some part in the game and not hiding behind a wall.

Not a tanky melee build but I really like playing my Druid. Using greater ice spike, Trozan sky shard and wind devils causing a lot of chaos on screen. Good cc, high damage and you have to keep moving to dodge attacks and avoid ground effects.

If you want tanky character, soldier will be included. Then it depends how much tanky do you want to be. Second most tanky build is Markovian’s sword and board soldier, it’s more active and still can facetank bosses and deal some serious damage. Look at Dank Rafft’s post a few threads below. You don’t have to pick Nightblade as a second class (Nightblade and Arcanist complement this build the best IMO). And if you get bored you can respec e.g. into classic dual-wield Blademaster or Callimdor Tempest Arcanist.

Thank you.

I was looking at Callimdor Tempest Arcanist.

I’ll take a better look.

With your Conjurer you actually do have one, already.

Sounds you “just” picked all wrong skills for this to work. hehehe

My Conjurer is level 76, Ultimate, just arrived at “Smugglers Pass” after beating SoT. I’ve made me a “Vitality Puncher”: Opening with Curse of Frailty, followed by Devouring Swarm and then going “in-fight” to punch and let my Procs work at full potential.

This is my “plan to 85”, if you are interested. Oh, and this is my very first char. So, no gear from other chars beforehand and it worked very well so far.

EDIT: I don’t have a single level 75 gear piece! All level 50-65 gear (epic, legendary and a green Helmet).
Maybe one level 70 piece, but curently not sure about.

If you want to be a hipster like me, I’ve been working on a goofy shadow strike Spellbreaker that is surprisingly fun and decently strong.

Max out Shadow Strike + Nightfall, Veil of Shadow + Night’s Chill, Star Pact, Maiven’s Sphere, Merciless Repertoire, Inner Focus, 1 point into Mirror, Pneumatic Burst, Ring of Steel + Ring of Frost (and/or Olexra’s), Iskandra’s + dump the rest of your points into Elemental Balance. This is without accounting for +1 to skills crap so feel free to adjust as necessary.

For devotions aim for Leviathan and Amtarok. Viper is nice, too. Slap Whirlpool on your SS and grab an empowered Cold Snap. Freeze as necessary. Hilarity ensues.

The only issue is mobs with loads of cold resistance can be a problem. Moosailuke takes aaaaaaages to kill. There’s probably a clever way around it but I’m lazy. Maybe blessed steel on a weapon swap, but fuck that.

I just got a wicked alkamos’ greatsword of alacrity from SoT with the spectral strike skill on it. I was actually thinking of this exact same build but with those two skills alternating, you would tear apart any non cold boss in seconds. It would be so much fun

Haaah, slap a Riftstone on it to get Chaos Strike as well  Teleport 4 dayz

My melee/caster hybrid cold-damage Spellbreaker spec is crazy fun. More like batsh*t crazy. Which is why it is fun.

I would take a stroll through the Build Compendium There are Tons of Builds to try and almost all of them are fun lol =)

Really comes down to what you want to…

2h melee ?
2h Ranged ?
DW Melee ?
DW Ranged ?
Sword and Board?
Pistol and Board?
Caster ? - What type of caster ? Ice/Fire/Aether/Chaos/Electricty/Vit/Acid

There pretty much is a build for every class combination with the exception of Druid and Witchblade. Druid… I am just supprised we have yet to get a druid end game build up there. If i ever find a Vortex of Souls i know i’ll be makeing one.

Thanks everyone.

I’ll look into changing my Conjurer’s skills and take a look at that compendium.

That surprises me, actually. Witchblade is actually pretty easy if you want a melee build. You can max NJE and DW for procs, then pick up poison-related damage/-res goodies from the Occultist tree. Possession and Dreeg’s Armor is absolutely amazing and devotion synergies work perfectly with it, especially Acid Spray.

I ran a poison/acid Shadow Striker in HC for a while and it crushed everything. The only thing that stopped it was a badly timed teleport into Thelonius. Dat shotgun.
