Caution: Falling Objects!

For some reason I was thinking about a spell to make rapid fire snow balls from a nearby snow pile…

Haha that could work. Maybe a special christmas edition/mod.

So are we going to see predetermined destruction (The arch will always crumple into same pieces, same size, etc.), procedural destruction (Arch crumples depending on how hard you hit it, piece size depending on the physics of the hit/aftermath), or a mix of both (Procedural for the arch, predetermined for smaller objects like barrels, gravestones)?

Anyway, it’s looking great. I’m kinda sad I hadn’t heard of this game before.

Well, in a way I’m sad I heard about this long time ago… The wait is killing me little by little from the inside. Need to manage though! Patience is virtue.

I really like the idea of destructible objects potentially hiding explorable areas, and destructible objects potentially dropping loot.

But I see pitfall with both of these: it is pretty much gonna force the player to destroy ANYTHING destructible, in case there’s a secret path behind it or some loot in it. Which could get tedious, in an environment with a lot of destructible objects. Akin to those cellars full of barrels, most of em empty, that a lot of older RPGs have. A lot of rather annoying clicking after you’re done with combat.

If the game teaches the player early on which destructible items might be profitable to destroy and which ones won’t, though, that reduces the problem. Then it becomes a design issue to implement systematic use of the objects.

On the hidden cave idea, btw – this really works ONLY if the game map (mini or otherwise) is capable of hiding areas behind the crumbling brick wall or whatever it is. Otherwise it’s just too obvious to be worth it  But I’m an avid explorer too, and do like the idea. Hope the map can be tweaked

i like it very much, and i hope there will be more cool new features like this in the game.

This game just looks better and better with each new update.

Man, oh man! You guys just keep making this better and better.

Two thumbs up and a +1

Seriously, how are you guys pulling this off with such a small team? Astounding stuff! Super excited for this title!

Man this is awesome, excellent work guys!

This will be so awesome.
I hit a zombie with my fireball and he smashes through the wall and behind there’s a big box of loot. Love that.

wait you did that?

In my mind, yeah.

looking at the picture. to me it looks like the top left flesh hulk has one head and the centered one has two heads?!?!

does this mean you guys have drawn multi types of the same monsters for more to look at or there are diff levels of the same monster so there are small changes to tell the diff. or im crazy and blind and they look the same? thx

Hello everyone,

first of all, let me apologize for “reviving” an old thread such as this, but I figured it would still be better than opening a new one about the same subject.

I have watched many “hands on” videos about the alpha version of the game, but I have yet to see anything like what was shown in this thread’s screenshots.

To quote directly from the feature list in the about section of the website:

“Destructible environments give evidence of your massive battles while collapsing stonework and flying shards of furniture can be used tactically to cause further injury to your foes.”

Is any of this currently in the alpha version of the game?
If not, is it still a planned feature, or has it been discarded?

I am asking simply because there’s no trace of this in the feature list of the early access version on steam.

I am thinking about purchasing the early access even if the feature is not currently in, but first I would like to be completely sure that it will be implemented at some point.

Thanks in advance if you’ll take the time to answer this

This feature has been in the game for a long time. Check out the videos from March 2011 and March 2012.

The related threads are:

I probably haven’t explained myself well enough since english is not my mother tongue.

I know that there are already destructible objects in the game, and that some of those are hidden (like the “weak” walls) and can even grant access to new paths throughout the game (great).

In the specific though, I wanted to know what was the situation concerning the damage inflicted to the creatures by shattering said destructibles.
In other words I am interested in this part of the quote “…can be used tactically to cause further injury to your foes.”

In the videos it didn’t look like they were suffering any damage, that’s why I am asking. I could very well be at fault here and have missed it (my apologies if that’s the case!), after all watching a video is very different from actually playing the game, hence the question.

Thank you very much for the answer though

I think you cannot experience this currently. I at least have not witnessed “flying shards of furniture causing further injury to my foes”.

Collapsing stonework is also not in the game, is it? The screenshot from the OP was taken on the cemetery area, which is yet to be added.

Could probably a feature which didn’t work well in the game and was cancelled as a result. That’s something that happens all the time during game development.

If you try to hold developers accountable for every mention of any “work in progress” feature they mention, you just force them to stop talking about WIP features. But a huge appeal of Kickstarter and early access is to actually be able to discuss WIP features with the devs and give feedback on those that really might be considered in the game. Would be said to loose that because of complainers.

Wait a minute, I don’t hold them accountable for anything, after all I didn’t even buy the game yet, so I wouldn’t have the right to “complain” even if I wanted to.

I am not complaining, whining or expecting anything. It’s perfectly understandable that some planned features could change/be removed during the game development.

But since the feature list on the website still present that quote as of today, I just wanted to know if such feature was in the game or if it’s still planned to be added in the future, when the game is released. That’s all.

It wasn’t my intention to sound like I pretended something, so my apologies if once again I wasn’t clear enough.

Nevertheless, thanks to you both for the answers, I’ll keep coming to check the development of this promising game
