Charge-attacks and massive crits?

I have two big questions so I decided to lump them together in one post.

First of all, how do charge-attacks work? I’m talking about Savagery/Mistborn Talisman/Shard of Beronath.
My understanding of them is this (which is probably flawed):
The % weapon damage stays the same, as do any buffs. The charges only effect any flat damage the spell does.
If this is true, why would anyone take savagery over cadence? Cadence has an average of 207% weapon damage per hit, whereas savagery only has 150% (or 173% with Might of the Bear).
Shard of Beronath and Mistborn Talisman are even weaker than Savagery when it comes to % weapon damage, why are they considered strong?
I feel like I’m missing something about how the charges work.

Secondly, I feel like I’m missing something about the damage in this game.
Say you deal 2000 base damage, have a 1900% modifier for that damage type, have 100% RR for that damage type, and deal a 1.70 crit.
That brings the damage total to (2000 * (19.00+1.00) * (1.00 - (-1.00)) * 1.70) = 136000.
To me, all of these numbers are pretty high up there, and yet people get crits over 200k! I really don’t understand this. Is my math wrong, or are my numbers wrong?

I’m so confused

The 200k+ crits are generally only with gap closer attacks like Shadow Strike and Blitz, you’re not going to get them with skills that have no CD unless your build is really crazy.

My spellbreaker record during 1.0.0.6 is 411k crit. By shadow strike with full crucible blessing buff, tower dmg buff and other 3 players’ auras.

using old setup which can deal full procs shadow strike on sheet dmg about 60-70k.

older record is 347k.

I don’t know what to tell you with math. It is possible, but with only some skills or exact condition. Not every build or skills can make a number so high like that.

Charge skills (Savagery, etc). deal X% weapon damage to an enemy, and put a stackable buff on you. X=<weapon damage>*<charge multiplier>, where <weapon damage> is %Weapon Damage listed on skill (150% for level 16 Savagery, for example), and <charge multiplier> changes depending on number of charges you have (skill description states multipliers for any possible number of charges).
Buff bonuses are also multiplied by <charge multiplier>.

The numbers don’t seem to show the same thing though. When I gain or lose stacks, the damage per hit on char page 2 doesn’t change, and my %lightning or %bleeding doesn’t change (excluding going from 0 to 1 or 1 to 0).
