Co-op Design

I’m new here. Just picked up two copies of the game and expansion for my wife and I.

Out of respect for the designers, I won’t suggest a solution. It’s up to them to determine if they can find a way to fix this without violating a core pillar of their design. That said, we have a problem.

In a co-op LAN game, it’s WAY too easy to lose track of where the other player is located in the game world. As soon as one of us uses a rift, we have to verbally communicate to the other exactly where we are going and I’ve even had an issue losing the other person while on the same map. If I teleport to a rift first and start killing stuff and running around, she has to be in relatively close proximity for her to show up on the map.

Additionally, when both players are on screen, I easily lose her position in the fracas. There is nothing to highlight the other player in any way.

Both of these issues are detrimental to gameplay and enjoyment.

For the record, in every other way this game is a 10/10 in my book. It’s refreshing to finally have a new dungeon crawler with some real depth.

If both of you open a rift, you dont have to look for each other and can use that to join each other

Thanks for the tip. This does help, for sure. However, it doesn’t really fix the issue. It’s still pretty easy to lose one another, there are still no real visual cues identifying another player’s avatar, and we stumbled into a bug that makes this issue worse last night. She could see my skeletons on her screen, but my character model was missing. I’m wondering if this bug is contributing to our problem.

That’s a semi-common MP bug, making a new game or rejoining usually fixes it.
I don’t play MP that much but I didn’t have too much trouble with the issue you’re describing.

As the other poster said, creating a Rift is the easiest way to find each other.
You can also see the other player on the map represented as a green circle IIRC, so I’d just pay attention to that and ask for a Rift if you get separated.

Other than that I don’t think anything will be done about this since it’s seen as a “single player game with a multiplayer feature” so you’ll probably just have to learn to live with it unfortunately.

And with the new illusionist feature, perhaps it’s an idea if you changed your items to ones that are easily distinguished. Some weapons are very bright and can work as a flare in the dark.

Understood and thanks for sharing. I haven’t gotten my finger on the pulse of this game yet, so I do appreciate you sharing, especially this tidbit. I’m surprised to hear it honestly. Coop multiplayer has gone hand in hand with ARPGs since…1996 (Diablo 1)? Maybe earlier? Not sure. Either way, we’ll work around the slight hiccups. Thanks again.
