Community Localizations (Build 20)

At long last, here are the localization files for build 20. Thanks for your patience while we dealt with some of the important hotfixes required for an improved b20 experience!

Create a Localization

Grim Dawn reads community localizations from the “/localization” subdirectory of the location the game is installed. This is usually similar to “Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Grim Dawn”. The game reads directly from a .zip file containing your localization files, which can be created using any standard .zip utility.

A community localization consists of a .zip file containing the localization texts along with a “language.def” file which tells the game the name of the localization as well as the font set to use.

example language.def:

language=French
fonts=FR
author=John Smith

The name given in the language field is what shows up in in game options. Community localizations appear as “community_French” for example in the language selection box in game options.

Currently the following font sets are available:

“CS” - Czech
“DE” - German
“EL” - Greek
“ES” - Spanish
“FR” - French
“HU” - Hungarian
“IT” - Italian
“KO” - Korean
“NL” - Dutch
“PL” - Polish
“RU” - Russian
“ZH” - Chinese
“SK” - Slovak (in progress, expected in build 21)

If you are working on a localization and require a font set for a different language, please PM me the request along with a link to the unicode alphabet for your desired language.

Item Localization

Gender Support

If you want to make use of gender support, you need to edit tagItemNameOrder (it’s the first tag in “tags_items.txt”) to use ‘a’ instead of ‘s’ for the genderized parameters, and specify the index of the parameter which contains the item gender to use for the item.

for example (genderized prefix/quality/style/suffix, with gender chosen by name)

tagItemNameOrder={%_3a0}{%_3a1}{%_3a2}{%_s3}{%_3a4}

Gender codes would then be given to each tag representing an item name. The code present in the name is then used to pick from the genders supplied in other tags.

for example, a masculine singular object would be defined as follows:

tagSword=[ms]Sword

and a genderized suffix would be defined:

tagSuffixPower=[ms]Power[fs]etc[ns]etc

Recognized gender codes are:

[ms] Masculine Singular
[fs] Feminine Singular
[ns] Neuter Singular
[mp] Masculine Plural
[fp] Feminine Plural
[np] Neuter Plural

Reorder All Item Names

If you want to change the order in which item names are built for all items (from prefix/quality/style/name/suffix to some other order), you can change the parameter indexes around in tagItemNameOrder.

for example, name/quality/style/prefix/suffix (all items)

tagItemNameOrder={%_s3}{%_s1}{%_s2}{%_s0}{%_s4}

Recapitalize Item Names

If you want to recapitalize the item name string after it is created you can prepend ‘$’ to tagItemNameOrder. The string will be changed so that only the first letter is capitalized.

tagItemNameOrder=${%_s0}{%_s1}{%_s2}{%_s3}{%_s4}

“Godly Plate of the Whale” would become “Godly plate of the whale”.

If you want to mark a specific tag to prevent recapitalization you can prepend ‘$’ to the tag.

tagSuffixWhale=$the Whale

The item name would then become “Godly plate of the Whale”.

Individual Item Tag Reordering

If you require it, you can reorder only some tags, for example to move a certain prefix to the end of the item name, you can prepend reordering info to the tags.

The code is |X where X is from 1 to 9 indicating the new location relative to the locations of other tags.

tagPrefixToBecomeSuffix=|1Warrior's

Tags without reordering info set are considered to have ‘|0’. The tags making up the item name are then sorted in order of their indexes and the item name is created.

In this case, Warrior’s would be moved to the end of the string since all other tags aren’t reordered.

Conversation Localization

Gender of Target

You can change npc speech in conversations based on the gender of the target the npc is talking to (usually the player) using gender tags.

Hello [[ms]sir[fs]madam], how are you today?

Questions?

If you have game related issues with your translation you can post in this thread for help.

Thanks to the community localizers for their effort!

Omg Happy to be first one.:smiley:

Appreciate your work for the whole community!

Thanks guys for this update. Time to spend some nights on updates :wink: First of all I will update all files with English names, than I will be translating new or edited.
Also it’s great to see such post - everything is detailed about “how-to” make translations.

I’ve few questions about Multiplayer, Grim Dawn status and other things… Do you have any plans for any major-advertising of Grim Dawn, the new game mode? For example, you could ask few bigger youtubers or live-streamers to advertise your game (also sending them a steam key). I do not know how selling games on Steam works, but limited discout of 10-15% would be great. Some kind of promotion or advertise to celebrate the release of multi = profit, right?! :slight_smile:

tagDividerRoll03=The tinkering chamber is used for tinkering.

This butter is used for buttering.
This knife is used for knifing.
This live is used for living.

Many Thanks! :slight_smile:

Thank you for the files Rhis.

I have begun to translate the “tags_items” files, and I have a couple of questions regarding the “#MiscClass”, “#QualityClass”, “#ArmorClass” and “#WeaponClass” sections (lines 568 to 578):

  1. Is it possible to “genderize” the various type of lines with the tags we can use for items?

  2. Is it possible to rearrange the order in which “#MiscClass”, “#QualityClass”, “#ArmorClass” and “#WeaponClass”" are displayed?

For example, an epic ring is displayed as “Epic Ring” in English, but in Italian it would translate as “Anello(ms) Epico(ms), while “Epic Belt” would translate as Cintura(fs) Epica(fs)”

With Weapons and Off-Hands is more tricky, because “Weapon” is a feminine word in Italian, but “Focus” and “Shield” are masculine words. Example:

“Epic Off-Hand” would translate as “Epico(ms) per Mano Secondaria(genderless)” for foci and shields but "Epic One-Handed would translate as “Epica(fs) ad Una Mano(genderless)” in the case of weapons.

Thank you!

EDIT: Actually genders are not a problem in Italian, because I can avoid using them in an elegant way, but I don’t know if the same is true for the other languages of course. The order of the words is still a problem though.

Thanks for the files Rhis!

One quick question which I can’t figure out for myself for the last two builds.

#World Map Labels… Is there a trick to it? Can I actually make it so that I can have a 3-word name of a place show in 3 different lines in-game?

Hello,

Can you please explain what’s “devotion” means!

What points can be awarded? What they do?

You are welcome! :slight_smile:

Thats a good one :smiley:

Gender tags still does not works in answers.

Can’t give any additional info on devotion at the moment, it’s a work in progress for a future build.

Seems to be bugged for more than 2 lines at the moment, sorry.

Next build hopefully.

No problem, thanks for clarifying! At least I can stop putting "{^n}"s all over the place now.:smiley:

@mad_enis, same here with the character’s gender responses.

I’ve still got this problem with the reward window. Do you guys still get this in Russian? I thought you also had this last build.

Going to double check all these and hotfix in the next couple of days.

Oh … Ok! :wink:

I’ve almost suspected.

But 2 other things:

  • Left screenshot: Is it possible to make the frame greater?
  • Right screenshot: Also there (Red marking)?

Also, there’s no file for this quest:
Tale of Two Blacksmiths
… or I just can’t find it :smiley:

Try the file: sq_smith.txt

Yes, we are :frowning: .

@SlayerM:(

:DDon’t worry, Rhis will fix us up.

One other little detail, since we are writing them down. fbmtt brought this up somewhere, but I can’t find where.

tag_items: 568|#ArmorClass, 578|#MiscClass and 584|#QualityClass aren’t affected by item gender.

[QUESTION]

In ‘tags_items.TXT’, the following line confuses me, please help.

tagBonusLifePercentPercent={^E}Restores {^H}{%.0f0}% {^E}Health {^H}+{%.0f1}% {^E}Over Time

In Korean, I should rearrange above line, something like, “Health”, “Restores”, “Over Time”.

So, would the following be correct?

tagBonusLifePercentPercent={^H}{%.0f0}% {^E}Health {^H}+{%.0f1}% {^E}Restores {^E}Over Time

or

tagBonusLifePercentPercent={^H}{%.0f0}% {^E}Health {^E}Restores {^H}+{%.0f1}% {^E}Over Time

PS: What ‘{^H}’ does?

Hi,

On every magical items, there are new titles of qualification of item. If it is rare one-handed or legendary ring etc. In english is ok, but in other languages (for me Czech) is not possible to applicate gender support. Could it be there support for right view of this clasification in other languages?

It is in tags_items file, rows 568 - 588

Thanks.
