So I have a purifier i’ve been leveling up and I found a new gun that does +500 dps but when I equip the gun I actually lose DPS on the character sheet. Can someone explain to me how this works because even when I hold ctrl to remove augments and components its still supposed to be an increase, but when it’s equipped the numbers flip around for a second and then its a DPS loss… I tried to link a picture but I had to make a new account to ask this question. https ://ibb.co/ck3ZTb
Well, there are a lot of different sources of damage. What is on the gun is only one part. Your other gear can have +damage to the weapon. Then you have different damage types you may have boosts too.
But the 2 biggest things that confuse the game in what weapon is better when you look at the tooltip of a new weapon are +'s to skills and components and augments, which are not taken into account. The components and augments will generally make any new weapon compare weaker to what you have until you add them, and skills bonuses will not calculate into it at all until wielded. You’ll often see it switch between one DPS, then to another after the skill bonuses are taken into account, which doesn’t happen instantly.
Attacks per second will matter too. The game guide --next to forum home button – gives a lot of info about damage types and calculations. These vids might help you out too:
In short: it doesn’t. The dps tooltip is all but worthless unless all you do is hold down LMB until the end of time. The only way to really get a feel for one thing being better than another is to beat on a training dummy for a bit with each one and see what numbers are popping up.
You can hit CTRL while mousing over to see DPS without factoring in components or augs.
