Copied files are always considered 'read only' by default.

Is this a bug that can be fixed or am I doing something wrong?

Does anyone know?

It’s not much of an issue when you copy one or two files, but when you bulk copy like 200 files, it becomes an tedious problem. Why 200 files? For instance, I’m making new staves that are slightly different but still rely on base stats of the originals, why waste time making new ones, just copy the old ones right?

The problem becomes apparent and you can only edit one or two files at a time until assetmanager tags them one by one as readable, until I step in and do it myself for the bunch in windows explorer or something. Sure, I can do this every time, it’s not a huge hassle. But damn it would be great if copied assets did not become read only.

Perhaps you could try running the asset manager as administrator? Just a guess =/

I tried to find you a program that could bulk edit the permissions but all I found was this “solution” here.

Bulk editing the permissions is easy, that’s not the problem at hand. If I just rightclick a selection (could go infinite I suppose, usually I’m at 50 - 200 files at a time when i do this) then properties > uncheck read only, it will work. But if I am in assetmanager and I copy files and then try to edit them, they are automatically set to read only. So this results in an extra unnecessary step…

I only have one account on my PC, pretty sure it is already admin but I am not sure, will try it out later.

Yeah I was just taking a shot in the dark. I’m not so familiar with the tools as all that but it does sound pretty janky if it keeps doing that.

You mean if you copy files open in assetmanager? Cause windows if famous for having locks on everything that is open…I bet you need to regedit to stop that and then it will be fine, if such a regedit exists.

Yea, if I copy a file in assetmanager, the resulting pasted copy will have that ‘lock’ and become read only. If I copy the files through other means (win explorer 90% of the time), it generally works fine.

I will gladly (attempt to) fix it if it’s on my end, I was wondering if it was an issue with assetmanager though. Will have to look into regedit to see if that exists…

If that is indeed the issue, may I suggest lockhunter :stuck_out_tongue: (it can be used for folders, too, not just files)
http://lockhunter.com/

(unlocking a file will not break the program that put up the lock, it will still be able to read it without issues)

Do I have to do that on every file that becomes locked or does lockhunter find the culprit and let me fix it permanently?

Nope, that didn’t do what I needed.

oooh~ you mean that kind of lock.
Have you tried right clicking the grim dawn folder, and turning the read only tick to unticked and applying it to all sub-files/folders, so that nothing ever in that folder is read only? maybe then the files copied by a program won’t have the read only flag

huh… didn’t realize this was set to read only…

This will take a while…

will report back when I get to test it out.

Curious to know how the hell that happned. Good luck Asylum, if you do not know why either, run a reputable scanner for malware while you are at it.

Its not set to “read only”, its set to…
actually, I dont even know what that means anymore, I just tried it.
On windows, I got a folder, with some video/image files in it. no subfolders, no hidden folders. all the files are set to NOT read-only, they can be modified.
Heres a gif of me setting a folder non-read only, right clicking it again, seeing its not set to modifiable, doing it again… The box is always there.

It isn’t. Windows Explorer is incapable of getting or setting Folders as Read-Only. Recommended read: http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/361846-all-folders-read-only.html The square is the ‘default’ for a folder meant to display uncertainty about the permissions of the folder’s contents. However, if a folder has been externally set to be Read-Only, you’ll get the check mark.

I’m curious as to the solution to this problem too. I’ve been experiencing what you’re enduring, ASYLUM, since starting with the Asset Manager.

I’ve ALWAYS had this problem, even back in TQ modding and it was even worse then, somehow. I dunno, I remember pulling out more hair then than I am now, maybe I am used to it at this point.

windows never ceases to amaze me, but hey, at least the 255 path length limit is kinda gone on the latest win10

I am especially perplexed by the command line file completion mechanism (tab). It is like it tries to guess which path you want, and it is always doomed to fail. But yeah, way off topic…

Pretty sure it’s similar to how it is in the Linux prompt? Just an easy way to auto-complete long ass file names and the like.
