Could use some help (Gun Build)

So I am currently playing cabalist summoner, about level 40, feels pretty strong, but it’s really boring. Just debuffing and letting pets kill everything.

I would really like to play a gun based build, could be pistol, but I am really interested in some type of rifle build. I am relatively new to the game, and couldn’t really find anything on the forums that was up to date as far as what I am looking for. I would also like something end game viable.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I’m not sure for your first time playing, you should worry about end game viability. That said, if you specifically want ranged 2h abilities, check out Shaman Primal Strike or Savagery, or Demolitionist Fire Strike. One is only available for 2h, and the other has a transmuter for 2hers.

Inquisitor has a good ranged skills at the top of the tree. They give 4 different procs for ranged weapons which add a good chunk of damage and AE abilities to the default ranged weapon.

I’d like to give Inquisitor + Shaman/Demolitionist as my next character. Either should be quite powerful. Even Shaman + Demolitionist has good possibilities.

Thanks for the tips!

I guess it would be better to say that I am returning after a LONG time away from the game. I do have a lvl 78 witchblade I played forever ago, and I have forgotten about a lot of the mechanics of the late game, and more or less how to even play that character. So I figured starting over would be better to get myself reacquainted with the game.

I guess I would at least like something that can farm reliably for end game items, so that perhaps I can build something stronger later on.

I don’t know if anyone has a good feel for end game mechanics as they stand now. We just got a new expansion, new levels, new gear, and new classes.

That said, you want to find synergies to make a strong character, and good defense can make farming a lot easier. Typically, from my experience, resists take care of most damage types, but physical damage is a lot more complicated.

There is very little physical resist in the game, but armor can absorb a chunk of damage from every strike. Normally, your armor might only account for a small chunk of that damage, but if you can get physical resists up, then armor, and damage absorption can play a big role in lowering damage.

Shaman has an exclusive skill that has 15% damage absorption, and Savagery has 8% physical resists with 2h weapons. That, along with armor, and armor absorption can shore up your defense a fair bit along with some devotion points towards physical resists. Savagery also has offense and defense (to prevent crits).

Inquisitor has a good damage exclusive, along with 15% physical resist, and Inquisitor Seal for good damage boosts, and some flat damage reduction (not good for the big hits, but great for the steady stream of low hits).

Inquisitor comes with a big raw HP boost, while Shaman has an HP% boost buff.

I don’t know if there are any specific template builds for Inquisitor/Shaman, but they have good synergy with defense and 2h range. Your damage type may not synergize as well, but there should be enough to work with to make a build work well.

I want to experiment with one.

Thanks agin for all the tips. I decided to go for inquisitor/shaman. Trying out primal strike, still way early game, only like level 20, but I am liking it a lot.

That sounds like fun, and something I may do next. I want to try Ultimate AoM first.

I think early on I’d go Primal Strike, but would try out Savagery later in the game when you need every bit of defense and offense you can get.

The thing to note is that Primal Strike cannot trigger the Inquisitor’s weapon pool skills like Storm Spread or Shaman’s Feral Hunger and Upheaval, but Savagery can. If you want to enhance your default attacks, go with Savagery, or else skip those and go all in on Primal Strike.

Early on, Primal strike is plenty to demolition mobs, but later on, Savagery will be key for all those procs. I heard that Storm Spread even fires twice with 2h ranged weapons, giving it a boost to your AE damage.
