Crafting thoughts

Now please do not get mad at me here. This is just an opinion. I find crafting to be frustrating at best most of the time. It just seems like the system belongs in an MMO instead of a single-player game. And it really depends on your luck with RNG. I have a hell of a time trying to find Blueprints or getting certain component drops. And I have to craft other things first just to get the one thing I need. What are some of you thoughts on crafting and would you like to see it simplified at all?

Care to elaborate? What difference ought genre incur?

Personally Iā€™ve long advocated for Guild Wars 2-style crafting in GD (the former of which is an MMO). I enjoy the principal of needing to scour the world far and wide to come up with crafting materials to piece together ancient artifacts. But I also recognize that crafting makes for a good resource sink for resources that accrue to great values over time (Iron and Scavenged Plating, for instance). Where the former breaks down in both GW2 and in GD is when one has all the materials they needā€¦and then needs to sift through the UI to find the exact recipes they want and spend half an hour tediously assembling subcomponents bit by bit, checking and re-checking higher-tier requirements.

I think the root of this problem stems from two issues:

  1. GD only has seven ā€˜reagentā€™ slots with which to craft a single item.
  2. GD does not have many items that are solely used in crafting (Tainted Brain Matters, for example), and those that do exist are very generalized and serve a great many blueprints.

In GD2 Iā€™d like to see some ā€œRare Crafting Materialsā€ that are vast in number but each only comes from some very select places and each are only used in very select crafts. Think MIs, for a crafting system. (Of which MIs are already used in a crafting system, but only one to a blueprint; Iā€™d opt for more to one blueprint.)

Donā€™t worry, Iā€™m not mad - I just donā€™t see the correlation or what it has to do with MMO. Iā€™m a believer in the almighty rogue-like and RNG - which arenā€™t MMOā€™s but which ARE heavily dependant on RNG.

Everything you complained about fits right at home in a rogue-like or the rogue-likes descendantā€¦ the diablo-like. It all comes down to RNG, which MMOā€™s donā€™t get full ownership of, tho people always seem to think they do.

Note: Iā€™m not being ā€œantiā€ whatever you are suggesting about crafting - I just want to do away with this ridiculous notion some people have that ONLY MMOā€™s can do certain things and single-player games canā€™t do certain things. Thatā€™s hogwash. I play diabloā€™s and rogueā€™s specifically because of the RNG (among other things) and I expect both these sub-genres to pack in heavy doses of it wherever they can.

Thatā€™s the magic of these games - pitting your skill and acquired knowledge against the game and the RNG it throws at you and trying to make it work no matter the outcome. MMOā€™s donā€™t own the rights to this. Rogues were there first.

What i meant by mmo is it being so drawn out with all the different items needed to craft one thing. And having no luck in drops for others. I have played some single player games with crafting like this but easier in ways. In D3 even though the RNG is worse i never had issues with the crafting for some reason. OK so i need what i think is a component called a whetstone i think. I have never seen one or how to get a blueprint. does it drop or does a certain vendor have it. If the later i bet i need to have high faction to get it. So that means grinding out a faction for a blue print. And hope and pray the RNG Gods will bless me with it.

I think that more than anything they just need to streamline the actual UI for this so you donā€™t need to hop all over figuring out what you have and what you donā€™t have. Thatā€™s it honestly. Not sure how much work it would involve tho to attempt to make it more ā€œfriendlyā€ tho I suspect it would be a bit of a job.

There are two types of whetstonesā€¦

Blessed Whetstone - https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/2882

and

Bloody Whetstone - https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/2890

and as you can see on their GrimTools they are BOTH obtainable thru factions. Visiting each of the faction reps in turn would have also revealed this to you. Neither faction needs to be particularly high to obtain them. Respected will do.

Pray to RNGesus, drink his blood and donā€™t waste his tears. Be patient, the blessing will come.

Thank you
This is what i was trying to say but badly. And thanks for the links. I really should bookmark Grimtools right now.

Yeah, thatā€™s what I think is really needed. Something like right-click a missing component to go to its recipe, craft it, then go back to the original. The search helps a bit but Iā€™ve had to make a flowchart for level 70 relic to see what I need, and then craft it step by step.
