So after bashing my head into the wall for some time I made a defiler that’s almost immortal, can conistently farm Crucible with 4 blessings no banner in 10 minutes and can be assembled with no greens.
It is also a good showcase of the strength of the Clairvoyant set + other; that set is good for a lot of combos. And Necro complements that well with all the other necro-focused aether item support and the Necro skill strengths.
Also: more defilers and less “prince-charming” paladins (aka Inquisitor). This lore is getting all rainbows and lollypops.
I will make a guide then. And yes, obviously this build is more about Clairvoyant set strength + massive CDR + Time Dilation, but that’s the only way that Defiler worked. And I tried some crazy ideas like for example Beronath Sword + Shield Physical Grenado/Stun Jacks/Canister Bomb caster (could do Crucible in 15 minutes with it :)). And making a caster out of Defiler is even harder than making a melee char out of it because class combo is paper in terms of defenses with no resists or damage absorption or any cc res or good heals.
I have a question or two regarding optimisation.
1)Why wasn’t bone harvest transmuter taken? Unless I’m mistaken it’s a damage boost?
2)Did you try using canister bomb? On a cdr build I would try using aetherfire devotion + canister bomb. It should be a nice procer given TD and the nice cdr you have. Take points from BH or BWC?
3)I find the devotions weird. Why did you take bat? Again I’d try weasel in imp devotion instead for the lovely proc with your fire converted to aether. You get the eldritch for arcane bomb. The red can come from elsewhere (jackal if you don’t want anything else). Imp allows lizard to be dropped and take blue crossroad. It works out but of course there are alternatives to what I said.
No, maxed out Flashbang is pretty powerful, but unfortunately, you have other skills to max out before Flashbang. And on this build you have a pretty great amount of OA already coupled with monster’s DA debuff. And 20/16 Bone Harvest on a cooldown build is no slouch in terms of damage. It’s one of the sources of damage, but it adds up. I mean, it’s honestly pretty hard to come up with the main damaging spell/skill for a defiler so it doesn’t suck, so I had to throw everything into the pile. A grand piano build, for sure, but at least it’s solid.
It’s not yet a guide, but thanks and I will answer your questions. Transmuter wasn’t taken because you need a two-handed melee weapon for it. Check out my other build: Vitality Ritualist that takes the power of Bone Harvest to the max and then some.
I have tried quite a few things to make it work. But Canister Bomb wasn’t one of them, simply because huge part of it is Burn/Pierce/Iternal Trauma - a damage that this build doesn’t support or convert.
I made a more offensive version before with freaking Ulzuin’s Torch and aether meteors proccing 24/7 with Reap Spirit (it’s 100% proc chance and we have 2,3 seconds cooldown on Reap Spirit). It was awesome. Made one with Imp too. But unfortunately because Defilers are literally paper until I utilized both Bat, Ghoul AND Time Dilation build was fragile af, I was just dying on waves with Reapers/Kubas any kind of rushing nemeses. But with this combo this build is really tough and can consistently farm Crucible Gladiator 150-170.
Forgot about the 2H requirement of transmuter. Shame.
Yeah I know there is a lot of unconverted damage. BWC base skill has lower damage though and I threw out the suggestion because if canister scales up the proc rate of imp devotion then the multi-hit shotguns should proc it like crazy (=more damage than bwc base so take some points out to up fragments of canister)?
Does bat really heal that much? My suggestion keeps ghoul and TD.
It all adds up. Canister with Aetherfire is good, but it means investing more points in mastery and investing some into Ulzuin’s Chosen to get an expensive spell with bunch of unconverted damage just to proc tier one devotion. I mean, I know imp + canister is awesome, and I utilise it on my sorc build but it’s not a build enabling combo and here it would not work that effectively if at all.
About bat + ghoul and all that leechy stuff stacking, believe me, I have tried without bat and without ghoul, but I just kept dying.
Usually, from my experience at least, when you are making a build, it’s a lot of trial and error and a lot of small things pushing your build close to the finish line, and sooner or later, if your build idea was initially sound, one of those small things will make your build efficient and tough and everything will start clicking. Of course there are some obvious builds like Belgothian Infiltrator or any Forcewave build or any Rune build that allow quite a few underoptimised decisions, but when building literally from shit bricks that is Defiler mastery combo you gotta take everything and then some more to make it work.
I mean, I wish I could’ve left Ulzuin’s Torch, because on high CDR Aether build with tonns of Fire to Aether conversion those meteors are quite insane.
Agreed with every word.
Flashbang is pretty powerful, the DA debuff is extremely good against nemesis, especially for some crazy OA/crit build.
A grand piano build=funny build.
