Create In-game chat channel's

That would be veery usefull to find people to play with and to trade,
The best way is do it in diablo 2 way.
One public chat channel for everyone
One chat channel per langue
and one chat channel for TRADE.

And remember that : SOCIAL MAKE PEOPLE STAY IN GAMES FOR YEARS :>
:>

That would unfortunately require a dedicated server for multiplayer, would it not?

It would require a dedicated system, but nothing fancy. You could host it on a laptop or something, bandwidth-permitting.

Source: I make IRC hosts/clients now and again as a hobby.

Could you make something that I could either host on my nas (on 24/7 fibre home 80/12mb) or on my site… thinking about it, is there an easy way I could use my current site chat as that’s running 24/7 and iirc doesn’t need to be accessed via the site, just a link opens up that chat window. That has a massive amount of channels etc…could even set up a clean one just for GD chat… now that’s a thought

My site is paid for already for over the next 2 years… might as well use what I’m paying for

If I wasn’t drowning in work for the next two months, maybe.

Why not use AJAX, though? If it works, it works.

Guys, they sold thousands copies for 20 $ each, i think they can affort server for ingame chat

Yeah I was having a few more thoughts about this today and I might have a mess about and see what happens. Cheers

no…no they can’t…

  1. Steam takes a 30% cut.
  2. Taxes have to be paid.
-So at that point of those 20 bucks only 10 bucks are actual income…disregarding the copies sold through sales.

3.Salaries have to be paid during the time span of the development
4.Money has to be put aside to pay for salaries/other development costs in order to keep producing an expansion pack and future other projects.

Simply put…when creating your first game you don’t have a budget to waste on extra’s yet.
Depending how sales of the Expansion packs go there might be more budget and by then we might see dedicated servers for chat and/or multiplay lobbies.

Got a working chat client if anyone wants to try it out. Completely free, opens in a small resizable browser window, no registration required and running 24/7.

Screen shots below showing it running in Chrome. The [Password] entry is only for registered members (which there isn’t any apart from me), the rest show the various option / help panels and the last shows the additional extras a registered member gets as well as their own named channel and the last just to show off the Black theme

Multiple colour themes and can have almost unlimited channels. At present to keep it simple and no point adding more channels unless there’s enough need for it to save fragmenting the users…if any :stuck_out_tongue:

The current downside is accessing it, I had hoped to simply make an internet shortcut with all the required info to get the popup window showing, thus making it a simple “click this” and up appears the chat client…

As usual my out-dated internet know-how has failed me and not had time for a google “how to”. So at present go to the old grim compendium forums here and click the [Chat] button.

Not to be ungrateful, but wouldn’t http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=GrimDawn work just as well? which there is an IRC link at top of the page…

Or
https://discordapp.com/invite/0fTQdPJ17ZJYwnve which is a link to the right side of the boards…

An IRC already exists, it’s not ingame but it’s pretty good considering you won’t get an ingame lobby/chat server ever.

edit: ninja’d

I know these exist and it was only because for some reason these wanted more chat clients so I slapped it together more out of curiosity really
