Kinda new to the game and a little unsure of something. I have the mythical corrupter set that gives vitality and decay damage to pets. What if my pets are the primal spirit, Briarthorn, and familiar. These pets don’t do this type of damage type as their base. Will it apply anyway or is this for skeletons or something else?
I was also wondering if there is a place to look to see the pet damage bonuses applied ( from equipment etc) that gives a total and type. It seems like the skill tree is the only place to look but don’t see the additional bonus info anywhere. Maybe I’m missing something.
Separately, when fighting monsters is there a way to recognize what type of damage they are throwing at you while in battle? It would help in knowing if my equipment is working well enough. I had to do a google search why that F’ing Kravall was killing me over and over. Do we gotta study the whole monster database outside gameplay to know what we are fighting or? Conversely, can we see in game/battle what the monsters defense type is?
Anyway, appreciate any help. The game is great. But please Devs, no more Kravall suicide pits. That scenario completely threw the game flow. Put the crazy stuff like that in a dlc. It pissed me off and detracted from the game.
If your pets don’t do Vitality damage naturally, your other options are providing them with it through buffs, bonuses or conversion items.
For examples of the above, Blood Pact allows Wendigo Totem to provide some Vitality damage to any ally or pet in it’s radius. The Corruptor set proc will provide your pets with some as a bonus as well. Finally, you might come across items like the Guardian of Death’s Gate which has Physical to Vitality conversion to pets.

There’s no way to see a detailed damage breakdown of player-scaled pets or pet-scaled pets currently unfortunately. If that’s what you’re asking.

Besides making good guesses like Chthonics/Bloodsworn using Chaos or Aetherials using Aether, as far as I know there is no “easy”, generalised way of doing it.
You can monitor your debuff icons to see what debuffs or DoTs you’re being afflicted with (but don’t get confused by reflect enemies turning your damage back towards you).
You can identify the graphic effects and audio when your character is hit by an attack or it is used. Types of spells like Vitality have a recognisable sound, GFX, or colour to their skills.
No you are not missing something. Here is a very elaborated explanation of this complex topic and an offline calculator for it.
For damage/res type and so on I completely agree with you. This game is insanely complex and complicated and without the databases/help here and in other fan resources online I would be completely lost. I have honestly no idea how to arrive at the DPS figure that is shown in my character window, just to give an example.
