I’ve read through a few articles on conversion and I think I get it, but still have a few questions. Let’s look at S&B Cadence Battlemage as an example.
Assume full IEE (25% physical to elemental), Discord (50%), 2x Blessed Steel (20%).
So Cadence would be 95% elemental damage, regular attacks would be 45% elemental. Questions:
Does Fighting Form get converted in any way?
Does Deadly Momentum get converted in any way besides the flat physical it provides?
My understanding is conversion only takes the final modifiers into account (so elemental)? So % physical from Fighting Form is useless? By that logic, Fighting Form beyond 1 point (or enough for 3 targets) would be useless if stacking conversion?
Internal Trauma is considered a physical DoT IIRC (but not mitigated by physical % resist or armor), so that would be converted to equal parts burn/frostburn/electrocute (which also benefit from %elemental) yes?
Devotion procs get converted the same way yes (Bull for example)?
Is %all damage any more beneficial than %elemental damage as far as the converted damage is concerned (especially with Discord/95%)?
AFAIK (and It’s possible I’m wrong about some of this)
Bleeding damage is not physical or dot physical (it is it’s own type, not even a dot form of piercing so it cannot be converted)
Not sure. I would say yes normally, but Cadence is a weird skill, so hard to say. In the case of arcanist and AAR + tainted power, the modifier for AAR, Disintigration supposedly also works for the converted type. That +X% Aether damage? Yeah, it becomes Chaos. I read that somewhere on the boards a while ago, I just assume it is true as it does follow the rule of what the guide says, sorta.
This follows with 2, I’m not sure but the way I understand it is, if a skill deals X damage type and a modifier gives X% damage then a transmuter turns it into Y damage type, the X% is also turned into Y%. This is only the case for transmuters from what I remember. (again, this goes back to what I mentioned in 2 and how it works for aether ray+disintigration+tainted power)
Yes, IT becomes 33% burn/33% electrocute/33% frostburn (where does the other 1% go? Probably one of the types is more favored than the others)
AFAIK discord will only affect cadence and not devotion procs, even if they are assigned to it.
All damage is always better in any circumstance. It will affect physical/elemental and your dots, so… everything will benefit, while elemental only affects the flat elemental types. If you are making a battlemage for instance and you convert a shit ton of IT into elemental, All Damage is the way to go because it will benefit everything.
When you actually try playing such a character you will discover that there is not a great itemization for elemental damage, not enough convinient devotions and not enough -RR to make it work.
To clarify: Skill Modifiers are applied before Conversion from Transmuters or from Gear. This means the +% Physical on Fighting Form will apply to Cadence’s base Physical before it is converted.
Wait… seriously? That is amazing news if accurate. I have been wanting to make an elemental cadence/shield battlemage, and I see that the next patch will increase Discord conversion to 100% at 3/3. The only thing stopping me has been the lack of DoT conversions, because there’s basically nothing that increases elemental damages and physical DoTs (except maybe a bit of lightning/bleed for Wardens), and even at 100% elemental conversion, that leaves the issue of buffing physical DoTs while neglecting elemental damage, or buffing the elemental damage and ignoring the DoTs altogether.
that part is definitely true, the corresponding DoT is also getting converted, so when you convert Physical to Elemental, IT also becomes 1/3 each corresponding elemental (cold / fire / lightening) DoT
